DayZ realism (NEEDS Smoke and Liquire)

Smoking could be the universal sign for AFK. you see a guy smoking. and you know he is AFK. There doesn't need to be any effects. Sure that is realistic but DayZ is about authenticity and the effects of smoking/drinking dont make the zed apocolypse feel any more authentic (to me at least)

I noticed that my character has animations for smoking while sitting down. She puts her hand up to her mouth as if she had a cigarette. Not sure if it's just the female or if they all do it.

I have to admit that I enjoy nothing more than raiding in WoW whilst my toon is inebriated. The fuzzy screen and vomiting always make great YouTube material.

I'm not sure about the drinking in here though.

I mean, would you really cut loose and party hard knowing that in the next 5 minutes you could be on the wrong end of a fire fight or staring into a random herd of zeds?(which need to be introduced)

This is hard core - death is not a run back from the nearest graveyard.

I have played this game shit faced and I have to say that my decision making has cost me more than one reincarnation. ;)

It would also present the perfect target for these skiddies who would take great pleasure in sniping your bright orange face.

I have to agree with you though.

There would be absolutely no point in even trying to add a game mechanic that would have to deal with smoking and drinking.

Just let us do it in the real world and imagine our zombie slaying, bandit slashing alter ego is just too much of a hero to poison himself. ;)

I do think it would be a sweet AFK, but I didn't know that it might already be in as a part of sitting que. I'll have to check it out to see if males do it as well. Would still be nice to get a farther depth to it for giggles, but I could settle for it if it's already been scripted in. I do agree it's not a big priority, but you right, there doesn’t have to be a mech behind it, maybe just as a fun feature/unique animation.

I also see where your coming from EMT Jase. Bring drunk could set you up to a death sentance, but it would also be fun none the less. I think it would make some AMAZING youtube footage. A drunk guy trying to manage in a firefight or doge zombies, I would likely pay to see that. I think time and loaction should be considerd on the players end, but I would still like to see a mechanic for it tailored in.

Another reason it is a bad idea - Since Dogs are being added, those who smoke and drink will be hunted down by bandits with dogs, since they can be used to track people. While the idea of taking a drink and then going guns blazing may sound cool, to keep with the level of realism, those players would not survive. Since Rocket has mentioned that the environment will have a much greater impact i.e. weather/temp/food/hunger, smoking and drinking would make the game very hard to stay alive very long as you would get sick easier and have to loot cities a whole more. More sickness are also being added.

This time, Zombies just walk in buildings and you can not run to a pier for safety.

smoking

+ better/steadier aim (sniper or whatever)

- addiction if used too often, means worse aim if no smoke available

so smoking would be a bandit/sniper thing that would be cool. also the bandits had to go to town once in a while to get some smoke :D

make the effect (aim) last only short so snipers can be spotted by the smoke while they prepare for a steady hand

It's only ever funny to be drunk in-game if you're actually drunk.

What's fun about your screen being fuzzy and turning?

Anyone with a half-working mind would not drink alcohol in DayZ.

Also, DayZ is not an MMORPG. Nor should it become one.

For fucks sake he was just making a very hilarious and lucrative suggestion, you all don't have to go all General fucking Surgeon on him, damn.

"Smoking is bad, blah blah blah."

You all sound like a bunch of pansies. Smoking and drinking would definitely create a very realistic element in the game. I mean sure they're both bad for your health, but I'm pretty sure a diet of Soda and Canned Foods isn't so good either.

While completely not needed for the game.. imagine the outrage from all the anti smokers and alcohol people suprised peta hasnt tried to stop the animal slaughtering yet heh.

Anyways a smoking animation while afk would be interesting, have it start up after 2 minutes of no mouse movement or something along those lines. It would allow a little bit of relief when you run into someone that wont respond in game. You know he is there aiming a gun at a hallway. Seeing a small puff of smoke would let you know you can safely walk past him or shoot to kill without worrying about trading shots.

Alcohol not sure what the pros would be to using unless they add a sanity bar based on your actions if you start to loose it completely you need some meds or alcohol.

The side effects of alhocol should include having to take a leak every 20 minutes of gameplay where your player stops in place for a few seconds like when you switch weapons twice.

And of course consuming alcohol should make it nearly impossible to hide from zombies due to you being so loud, clumsly and poor judgement underestimating zombies.

I want a taking a leak animation too. So when I go afk to take a leak in game my character can be pissing up against a tree.
