You will never be able to shoot a target at 1000m

Recommended Posts

I have a confirmed kill of a moving cow at roughly 150m. I forgot to Fraps it though so you'll just have to take my word for it. I confirmed it myself and I think a zed was watching too.

I just did it earlier, and I have people that can vouch for me.

You obviously haven't hit one. it's not that hard.

View distance is defined in server settings. Stop telling people bullshit to adjust the visibility. Go ingame, join a server and try adjusting the visibility setting. You will see no effect at all be it 500m or 10km. Again, this is server defined settings.

maybe so, but atleast i aint QQ'ing about ppl not being able to hit from 1000+ meters, and saying its impossible.. when it clearly is..

either way.. i have no problem seeing over 1000 meters in game.. if its server settings or setting in the game.. i dont really care :)

maybe ppl should just get a proper pc :)

i have had a range finder on a player that i later killed with a AS50, the distance was over 900m, after a 2 "Practice Shots" B) i hit the guy. so all i can say on this matter is that 900m is possible on dayz with a AS50.

They really need to implement more realistic sniping.

Right now its far too easy for someone to pick up a high-calibre weapon and take out people from ages away with very little experience.

ACE's wind dynamics would be a great addition.

over 1000m is realistic, longest confirmed killshot in RL is over 2500m (by a British sniper I might add!) :)

but yes, wind and some other variables would be nice and more realistic, :)

To internet-heroes abound,

Troll harder please. I didn't know that the visibility was Server-dependent. It's Ok folks, sometimes people still learn stuff, and not everyone knows everything. The server I play on must be limiting visibility to about 600 meters. That's pretty cool I think because it equalizes the .50 cal to some degree.

@ Double_Back

STFU NOOB. But no, seriously, Fog of War, as you're talking about is what you just read on Wikipedia. The term Fog-of-War, in the GAMING sense is a very old term meaning past the visibility of the player. Fog of War is often mentioned in RTS type games like Starcraft 2 or dota-style games.

You are arguing semantics my friend, do you have to always be right about what a phrase or word means? The term 'Fog of War' has the exact meaning Double_Back referred to, your meaning is a cultural reference surrounding old video games. I don't think viciously attacking him was necessary.

See, I'd be perfectly ok with you lashing out like this if:

1 ) You hadn't made the thread

2 ) you called everyone full of 'bullshit' if they had accomplished what you said was impossible.

You invited this on yourself, friend. Next time, try posing a question rather than a declarative statement when you admit that you still have 'stuff to learn'.

I've seen a couple of posts before about people wanting and/or accomplishing the 1km shot on a target.

To all of them I say BULLSHIT.

How is it that you take down targets at 900-1000meters when the Fog of War kicks in around 500-600meters. There's absolutely NO way you can hit something 1000 meters out. You cannot see it.

**edit: before you troll this, look at response below**

I'v gotten several kills at 900+ meters with my AS50. And the fog varies on other factors.

Maybe instead of posting a thread about how everyone in all the other threads is a complete moron and you know better, you should have your facts straight. You know, so you don't go looking like a huge fucking jackass who's doubling down on his jackassness with more yelling at people.
