"Day Z lead 'having meetings' about console port"

Recommended Posts

How would this ruin the game? I can imagine it looking horrible on consoles, but it wont make this game any worse, since they are porting it from PC to consoles.

look at BF3 on console. Than look at BF3 on the pc. Now look at the biggest map on BF3 and than look at Tschernarussland. Mr. Rocket was saying on reddit that dayz standalone will be on a even bigger map so it should be possible for 100-200 people to play on one server. Now tell me how could you possible do this on a console. It´ll be a frickin nightmare and in my opinion it will not happen. Maybe in 3 years.

Well if you read the article, he pretty much says that. PC first then MAC and other platforms. As a long term goal porting it over to consoles is not such a bad idea, profit is good. Doesn't even mean PC and console will play together, just means more money for the project. It will not happen in a year, not even two years.

How would this ruin the game? I can imagine it looking horrible on consoles, but it wont make this game any worse, since they are porting it from PC to consoles.

Example of the thought process in Development

Designing DayZ for PC but with console in mind

Feature X - Will perform brilliantly on PC, will add a lot to the game. Feature X however will not perform well on the console due to hardware limitations

Result - Feature X is excluded, development intends to create content for both platforms.

Feature XY - Clumsy interface for the PC, works as intended on console using thumb stucks

Result Feature XY is clumsy on the PC, works fine on the console. (Example, Changing weapons becomes holding a button, where on a PC it would normally be binded to an unused key (controller limitations))

In my eyes, as soon as consoles are taken in mind for development they become the focus because the target market is huge compared to the PC gaming community. The moment it was announced a console port would be made I realised standalone is going to go down the pan.

Getting a console deal would be the best thing to happen to this game. It means big $$$, none of this PC pocket change. But PC will benefit from it becaus more money means more justification for development and feature additions. I know some people have it in their head that it will ruin the game and "dumb it down", but it won't.

Theres something already like it, infact its way more stable; http://en.wikipedia....oint:_Red_River

its not impossible, hopefully arma 3 engine is alot more stable than this thing we have now.

Pretty sure rocket already confirmed the standalone will be running on the current engine with some improvements.

Micro$hit puts bandwidth limits on console multiplayer, that's why BF3 for console can only have 24 damn players while PC can have 64. But making it for console would be nice, the console haters should stop clamoring.

Also how is that piece of shit engine near ARMA 2?

it's crap as it red river.

I think the console game would be a bit better balanced everyone having the same video config for no advantages.

But I it will be dumbed down and may seep into the pc version

Ugh, lets hope the console kiddies can't play with the real gaming community. They should have their own servers. (if this ever happens that is)

Hold your horses gentlemen and read the article.

Nothing severely alarming or outragious.

Old news but, might be nice if it is made for the next generation of consoles, current gen would get eaten alive or have to cut alot out I would imagine.
