RaeMong 9 Posted August 25, 2012 (this is a little long. don't say I haven't given you fair warning)It all started when I found myself starting to see my food meter start declining into the deep red and I decide I should spend a little time gearing up with some food and drink in Elecktro. Now at the time there were about 20 people on the server so I assumed there might be some hostility in the city but I was not at all expecting what was waiting for me.Coming from the east I come up over Dobryy with my AS 50 drawn. I intend to do some overwatch, look for zombie spawns and really just to try and derive whether there were tangos in Elecktro or the surrounding area. I immediately snap onto some zombie aggro running towards the northern firehouse in town. I make out two bandits running point of the zombies. I guess the range to be about 700 meters, zero in and discharge the AS knowing that this would be the only shot i'll get at them. Retrospectively this was a poor choice as if I had missed I would have alerted the bandits to my intentions and my rough whereabouts and what i'm packing. But acting on the spur of the moment, I fired, what I consider to be the best shot of my DayZ career to date. Not only guessing the range, but firing at a target running full tilt from a pack of bloodthirtsy zombies would make for an incredibly hard target. Not hard enough. I drop him from the 700 meters with a solid connection to what I can only assume as his midriff. I duck down and take cover in a nearby pine tree in case there were tangos nearby. Checking my map to see if it was picking up any survivors I am surprised to see one down on 'Craig hill'. (named after an epic battle with a friend of mine, also called craig, against a player named craig. Essentially it is the foothill of Dobryy that runs right down to the buildings.) I Quickly swap out to my Ak 74 Kobra, and look down in his direction. Seeing nothing I head north around Dobryy and slightly uphill to try and get a better angle when I see a player riding a bike through the middle of the town. Swapping out to my AS 50, I check the range, and zero in and wait for a shot. Seeing a couple of opportunities and taking them, i've missed three or four times. Blissfully aware of his enourmous Zombie tail I take a deep breath and wait for my next opportunity. It is 10 seconds after this that he starts biking toward me down the road towards the powerstation firehouse. He is coming straight at me, when I fire into what I think path he will take. Seeing his body drop off the bike and then being swarmed by zombies was another of the most satisfying moments of DayZ i've had.Scoping out I am shocked to see movement in the bottom left hand corner of my screen. Running parrallel to the road above the firehouse are two survivors, one with the rifleman tag. My AS 50 still zeroed to 400 comes up to my eyes and I shoot immediately. Following it up with another round the player in front drops. I fire another shot at the following player and he prones out of my vision. Swapping once more to my AK I fire about 10 rounds at his position to try and suppress his movement as much as possible. Running down Dobryy to the North of my new targets position I rhythmically fire a round at his position to keep him tied down. Reaching the road I scan down it till I see movement. See my target cowering behind a tree I put 4 rounds at him. Assuming I hit the lad he tried to stand up and run to a better position. Bad choice. Standing up he makes himself a much bigger target for me to hit. I empty my Kobra in his chest and see him go to the ground again. Not sure whether he is down for good or just prone I hurridly reload my Kobra when I see the death notification I hear a bullet snap into the ground beside me.The next shot hit me. Taking cover behind a bush I bandage, and taking advantage of the third person aspect of the game I scan the horizon for my assailant. Coming towards me from the firestation in town, is undoubtedly my first victims friend, seeking vengence for his fallen comrade. I lay down some suppressive fire and he take cover behind the supermarket wall whilst trying to deal with the zombies that have aggroed on him. I dash into the tree line and back up Dobryy. Reaching the highest fence overlooking the town I swap back to my trusty AS 50. Checking the range I zero in and wait for him to show himself. It is not long till I see him trying to make his way over to Craig hill. Big mistake buddy. Keeping in fashion with my current string of luck, I bring him down with my third round. Killing my third victim who was at full tilt. Making for a nice tally. After looting the bodies and acquiring all the supplies I need I start running north in the direct of Stary Sobor, when I turn around to make a final check of the town. I spot a player looting one of the bodies of the fallen on Dobryy. His death rounds off my luck for the afternoon. As just as I see his death notification I hear the unmistakable sound of a subsonic M4 assualt rifle. Already at lowered blood pressure I take the rounds to my back, and fall onto the ground cold dead. Thus ending my tale.
