NewYawk 23 Posted August 24, 2012 Here in NY, the police do something akin to entrapment and it works pretty effectively. I was thinking that this could be applied to the game in order to identify and ban players who are hacking. How it is done here: Police who have multiple warrants for an individual (longstanding) send out letters addressed to the perp in the form of a contest winner. When they show up to claim their "free prize", they get arrested. Works like a charm. Here is how it can be applied in Dayz: Spawn a server that looks just like any other server. Multiple servers would work best. The trick would be to intentionally not spawn any vehicles. The first individuals to enter into a vehicle would be flagged / banned. The same could be said of certain weapons. It would have to log who the first person to use the vehicle / wep would be in order to prevent any false positives but it is a semi organic way to bait and capture hackers.I know there isnt much in the logs but it seems like something the main hive would be able to track.Hopefully the standalone wont have any of these issues but just an idea to ensnare some of these kids that were pushed off their swings by their mommies
gambla 118 Posted August 24, 2012 These traps are called honeypots and are not new. Not a bad idea, but it won't stop hacking. The base of the engine and the multiplayer system are just to vulnerable. But Arma3 and the standalone are in the pipeline.
Beafy 11 Posted August 24, 2012 Good idea in theory, practice however is another story.I imagine many hackers would catch on to this easily, and newcomers of whom would have no idea of thiswould not be clueless, and pointlessly wasting their time, on said server, looking for good loot.I know long time players who never keep up to date with DayZ updates or the forums. h3retic 224 Posted August 24, 2012 seems legitdunno if this can really be applied to dayz thoughand anyways, we now just wait for the standalone and hopefully, and as promised, the hackign issue will be resolved
kebman 213 Posted August 24, 2012 (edited) Wait, how would this stop legit players from entering these honeypots?Edit: Oh I get it now. Just have this terrible problem with low IQ. Edited August 24, 2012 by kebman
-Cdn-Chard 96 Posted August 24, 2012 Sounds like a fun hack to spawn a UAZ near the coast and watch noobs get banned when the innocently hop in and try to drive. These hacker assholes only want to ruin the game for everyone.
