hazychestnutz 0 Posted June 10, 2012 Would you be pissed if they were working on a full version release that you have to pay of the mod now that you've recently bought ARMA 2 just for DayZ? or they decided to focus the DayZ mod on Arma 3? Lots of people here bought ARMA 2, an 3 year old game just for the purpose of this mod.
Vipeax 318 Posted June 10, 2012 Had this been the case, I'm sure we will give you a refund for the money you've paid to the DayZ-team so far.
Publik 404 Posted June 10, 2012 So play Arma2? It's not a bad game, guy.

Vipeax 318 Posted June 10, 2012 I didn't add a ;) as I think the smiley looks stupid, it wasn't meant as angry, bad, mean, evil etc.
clever 12 Posted June 10, 2012 My bad, I saw that as a sarcastic post there. Thought you were implying since we didn't directly pay you guys any money, you didn't owe us anything.
reuter 120 Posted June 10, 2012 But he is totally right. What the hell are people thinking? You paid for Arma II, not DayZ. If they're shutting down all servers by tomorrow, they don't have to give a flying fuck about it.
hazychestnutz 0 Posted June 10, 2012 I'm just saying it would suck if they just decide to make a full release game or ditch ARMA 2 for Arma 3 when thousands have recently bought ARMA 2 just for dayZ.
savini 587 Posted June 10, 2012 Armaholic. The modding community for arma is so huge that arma 2 will last and has lasted this long. Arma is a great game alone. DayZ is a great mod. There are also tons of other mods and things to play with if you get bored with any of the rest.Loving arma forever
worbat 13 Posted June 10, 2012 They don't owe us anything. Diddly squat.Dayz is being made standalone from arma 3 (source e3) Dayz for arma 2 was always just a test to see if the forumular would work along with some back end (source rockets posts from ages back)

Thought you were implying since we didn't directly pay you guys any money, you didn't owe us anything.[/quote']What I'm implying is somewhat in that area though. Would this happen/have happened, it's a bit hard to just go like: Yeah, anyone who played is getting it all for free as hey, you paid 20/30 dollars to someone else, so we will give 100.000s of dollars worth of games for free. If that makes sense.FYI: This is my opinion to this subject and not related to the DayZ-project at all, as it's not a relevant subject at this time.
imagelesskjc 35 Posted June 10, 2012 And this is the attitude that shows this community has started turning into self-entitled brats. You don't deserve anything, therefore you have no reason to get pissed. If you purchased ARMA just for a modification then you didn't spend your money wisely. The DayZ team doesn't owe you anything. The whole premise of this mod was an experiment to see if there was a public interest in something like DayZ. If the mod became successful, then Rocket was going to pitch it to his higher ups and use the mods success as supporting evidence (at least that's what I've read from his interviews/posts online. I'll include sources once I scour the forums.)It turns out, the mod has become pretty damn successful. Its likely that it will be made into a standalone game."The creator of DayZ and Bohemia Interactive employee, Rocket, has been instructed by Bohemia to work on the mod full-time. That’s according to an account of a fan who chatted with him at E3 earlier today, spotted by Craig over on the DayZ subreddit. The account says that Rocket believes that DayZ is “the first step towards Bohemia gearing up to make it into a full standalone game.”Source: http://www.pcgamer.com/2012/06/06/rumour-dayz-creator-instructed-to-work-on-mod-full-time-by-bohemia/

If they're shutting down all servers by tomorrow, they don't have to give a flying fuck about it.[/quote']I think you need to learn a little bit about the buyer/seller relationship. BIS *knows* that millions of dollars worth of ArmA2 purchases came strictly for DayZ. That's *why* they put rocket on DayZ full-time. If they spin DayZ as a stand-alone game the expectations WILL be higher; they should know that going in. I've easily gotten my $30 worth just playing DayZ as much as I have, so don't take this as a complaint on my part. I actually HOPE rocket takes the plunge and tries to make an MMO out of it (not very popular here I know).

imagelesskjc 35 Posted June 10, 2012 @Redz Great...used us as bait. This doesn't mean that the mod is going to die anytime soon. Its going to be in Alpha for a long time by the sounds of it. By the time the standalone would come out, you will have gotten more than your $30 worth out of ARMA. Cheer up honey-poo.

I don't want them to release the full version with a full retail price too soon when a lot of people are currently just finding out about this game.
suiside 20 Posted June 10, 2012 how many hours have you (anyone) spend on the MOD ? (it is alpha so you could not say you actually play it as you are a test bed)this is technically a free thing for you to do, buying arma 2 to do so is on your own account.i would say it is very generous to have an open alpha because the community as a whole has some form of input in it, rather than being a beta where most things are set and there are only bugs to find.would this become a standalone then so what ? you "played" for free and in that had your say in the development how ever slim that might be, you contributed and that is worth more than money.those who think that is not true, you miss some essential core information of life, money or luxury or any of that does not make life great, experience and sharing does.hell if it came out stand alone on the arma 3 engine i would have to upgrade this rig and buy the game to experience it again, but if i like that experience i could care less because i show my gratitude to those who enrich my life.no one forced you to buy or will force you to buy, it is just you who WANTS, a computer game is never a need. (in real survival a game or form of game can be a need though)(sorry if my writing reads / sounds harsh, thinking of people whining about money just pisses me off)

SillyGoose 0 Posted June 10, 2012 I'd be thrilled. Better graphics, more stable game designed just for zombie survival specifically tailored?Ohnoez I spent $30, how will my bank account ever recover :( :(Come on. In fact if they don't bring Day Z to the new Arma I will be thoroughly disappointed.
FragMonkey 1 Posted June 10, 2012 I would be glad to pay for a fully-developed DayZ title
bryantjudoman 3 Posted June 10, 2012 I personally hope they don,t spend even one more second working on this mod. I am so so much looking forward to this being turned into a stand alone game! Yes a standalone game built with the arma 3 engine. Just thinking about it gives me the warm fuzzies.
rocket 16567 Posted June 10, 2012 Its no secret (I've been saying since day one) that I personally want to see this become a standalone game. But rushing into that is not a good idea. There are many things requiring careful consideration not least of all sustainable payment models.
Kolchak (DayZ) 5 Posted June 10, 2012 This should be a full game, Arma's engine is okay, but this would be so much better on an engine tailor made for it. Something to make the infected behave more like infected. No more walking through closed doors, hitting you through a wall, ect.
migeater 15 Posted June 10, 2012 I can understand why someone would become annoyed at the fact they may have to shell out another $30 for a game when they have only just bought one in the first place. But you cannot blame the dev team for making it stand alone. There is only so much they can do in the current Arma engine, and once a point has been hit, the game will just become a clunky half-done mod. I'd much rather them go all out with it and produce the best game possible, than have a game hampered by the limitations of an engine. My main gripe about its current state is how you are forced into close quarter situations, and this is something the Arma engine does very poorly. Anyway, my point is obviously going to be bias due to the fact I bought Arma a weekbefore UK release (lolidkhow) and have been playing it for its milsim characteristics.
