Playing DayZ COMPLETELY Free?

Recommended Posts

Okay first of all for if you didn't know you have to buy it from steam now if your looking not to pay, I myself am a massive pirate but honestly STOP BEING A STING this is the most amazing game and nearly no ones heard of it, pay for it so they can afford to create the standalone. Yes I know ARMA II gets the money but DayZ got to have a percentage since that's the only reason people buy the game.

i dont like steam. i bought game direct from bohemia for 20 euro. Download and install worked exelent, no problem there. You just need to read here on forum tutorial about instaling dayz.

even if you find way to play pirate version you wont be able to save your progres when you turn off game. you will be able to play only on cracked servers. Those servers have up to 5 ppl online and 3 of them are cheaters.

People talk about buying this game (as well as others) instead of pirating and they frequently mention that they have "no regrets". Those people are all children. If you're an adult gamer your know how hard free time is to come by. You have a job, a spouse, a child that deserves your attention, and maybe a long-suffering pet or two that craves the occasional snorgle. Here are my regrets about buying this game and keep in mind that they would not be fewer if I had a pirated version...I totally appreciate that:

-finding a server with a low enough ping and correct version. I live in Korea. Fㅂck me, right? What's Rocket gonna do about that? What can he do? Just sayin...it's just one more thing on top of a dozen other things...

-getting stuck on each of the half-dozen or so loading screens for an average of ten minutes each time you join a server, even though the game uses the same damn map on pretty much every server. Don't try to blame my IP...I paid extra for a bitchin connection and play at night when almost nobody is online.

-the hourglass for death...because we didn't have to wait long enough for all the other crapola in the game, we also have to get penalized for getting smoked by Sgt. Douchetard (or another Hacker that BattleEye missed) every time we loot somewhere that isn't a barn

-the bugs, graphic glitches...who do I send money to so that they'll be properly motivated to fix this?

-zombies that can see in the dark, have hearing that would shame a dog, and can sprint for 30-40 minutes...some even take a headshot but don't go down...

-the hackers seem to outnumber the legit players...very few of them are "white-hat" hackers...

-servers that consistently spawn next to no loot/weapons/meds/vehicles but have no trouble spawning the undead by the screaming multitude...

-random injured/death spawns, broken bones, ect that just spontaneously occur

I've read reddit and the other sites. I know there are millions of fan-boys lined up to simultaneously fellate Gaben and Rocket...but if you're going to projectile vomit rainbows out of both ends about this game, save it for the kids who seem to have endless hours to invest in this game (study much?)...adult consumers (a large if not the majority of the market of the gaming customers) are going to quickly appreciate how different the representation differs from reality.

Don't get me wrong, when the game works...it's awesome...but can you, in good conscience run screaming through the interwebs that everyone should pony up for a game that works sorta well about 40% of the time (on a good day)? Just sayin.

For an adult you sure do moan like a kiddie ;) I've got a job, wife, kid, i find time to hug & kiss them all & still have time to play this mod.

I use Six Launcher to run DayZ & have no trouble finding servers & as for updating it does it automatically as soon as the update is ok'd. Even ones that have largish pings seem to be ok'ish.

I'm certainly not saying that it's not without issues, god knows, i've borne the brunt & seen many of them. But many should remember that this game, no, MOD was developed by ONE, yes ONE (maybe helped from a few others) off his/their own backs for NO PROFIT. They had the vision & saw it through to a playable state. From there it's turned into a monster so they're supporting the current free arma 2 mod & working on a stand alone.

I think it's tight to say they have a problem with motivation wouldn't you? I don't claim to know much about developing but you mate, seem to know nothing. So relax, give them & yourself a break & wait for the stand alone.

Since I'm not a developer, it shouldn't be a huge surprise that I don't know anything about dev. It's the fact that I know diddly-squat about programming that makes other people's knowledge about it a valuable commodity. For that reason, I really think that both Steam and Behemoth should be cutting Mr. Rocket a sizable check, since many people (myself included) who never played a tactical shooter let alone Arma or Arma 2 and would never have bought either if not for him.

I've played mods before. The Oblivion Lost mod for STALKER Shadow of Chernobyl by Kanyhalos was not only bloody EPIC, it turned a nearly unplayable wreck of a game into one of the best games I ever played. Pretty much everything Bethesda has produced was either so riddled with bugs and exploits that you wonder how many people they have to fire every time they release a game..in retrospect, it seems like they didn't fire anyone...they just kept all their morons on staff. Their games have given an inexhaustible well of potential mods and simply bad programming that needed fixing. Were they badly designed games with character rendering that seems like it would be more at home in the 90's? Yeah, but they were entertaining for a little while.

Rocket's definitely a talent that should be put on payroll for Arma 3, no argument there. He deserves swimming pools filled with loose women, cash, and an limitless supply of his favorite vice.

The point I was making is that people tout this game as WICKED SICK without tempering their review by discussing the massive amount of patience and time that goes into simply trying to play the mofo (after every time you die, thanks BattleEye/hackers). Consumers don't make things happen, they consume. I just think the numerous downsides of the game is being downplayed when players are yodeling its praises from every mountaintop. Accepting thing uncritically is childlike...judging something on ALL its merits and its faults is what adults should do (but frequently don't). Unconditional love is for dogs, not PC gaming, bro.

Naturally people are going to talk about the best bits of the game when they try to sell the idea to their friends. That's because they like the game! However, you've clearly been living under a rock or with blinders on if you think that people only talk about the positive aspects. Most of the topics on this forum are complaints about faults with the game, and even personal conversations I have with friends are peppered with points on the faults.

All you've really said to me here is that you bought the game, without following your own advice. You could have easily found that the loading times are huge, that most of the servers are in the US/EU and that it's frequently hacked to bits. None of your complaints are the fault of the community, 'bro,' just things you didn't pay attention to yourself.

They're cutting him a fat cheque, hence the stand alone.

It's far easier to complain than to praise. You're right alot of games are NOT ready. The developers have been paid to bring a product to market, said production entity has given a deadline to market, screaming at them for updates & commanding impossible deadlines. What do you do, release on time & not ready? or if you know you've got something special, tell them 'No' it's not ready & hope there's someone at the other end with vision? It's awful situation to be in. I too played Stalker & Oblivion on first release but I got differnet memories to yours & those are huge positves rather than negitives. Acutally Stalker was pretty awful on release date :)

As to your last comment. I love the mod very, very much. I have a huge respect to what has been done here & appreciate all the time, effort, blood, sweat & tears that has gone into this mod. I don't focus on the negitives with DayZ becasue for me, the experience on the whole out weighs them entirely.

Actually, there are constant beta updates that Steam won't download for you. xD

I meant arma with OA only :) ...for DayZ something like Dayz Com or 6updater of course

You're actually paying for Arma, which (after several years of patches admittedly) works just fine, DayZ is a free mod so this point doesn't really stand. I will however agree with most of your comments about this game requiring patience etc, but it sounds like the OP has already elected to take the plunge.

O/T:

Gamersgate is another option if you want to go the digital download route, I have several OA CD keys and two copies of the base game and DLCs (for myself and flatmate) spread over GG, Sprocket (Bohemia) and Steam and GG and Sprocket would definitely be my preferred options, Steam is workable but it's more work to get the game setup and running as you have to fanny around copying .exes and stuff.

Cheers

I highly doubt that will happen. Also, please do not resurrect topics of that age.
