What sort of files on the local computer can get me in trouble?

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone!

I was going to wait until i was actually in-game to make a "first post" in the newcomers section, but after reading a lot about global banning, battleye and whatnot i have managed to accidentally bump my paranoia levels to unsustainable levels before even starting the game up. If i'm posting this topic in the wrong section, i apologize.

I have finished downloading ArmA II on steam and am currently downloading Operation Arrowhead.

But i have read that if one has "suspicious files" on their hard-drives, the BattlEye software can issue a global ban even if its unrelated to the software that it is supposed to be protecting. I do, in fact, have a "game trainer" for Amnesia: The Dark Descent that has been flagged by my anti-virus software as being a "code injector". I told it to ignore the report because its obvious to me that a game trainer is a code injector.

Besides that trainer, it is quite likely that i might have a virus ... or a few dozen ... since it has been almost 2 years since i last installed my current OS. So i deleted the trainer and am now running a full system scan before even launching ArmA.

Is there any other sort of file and/or application that might not be detected by anti-virus software, but will most likely be flagged as being suspicious by BattlEye?

Thanks!

PS: Please don't make fun of me ... i'm too much of a pussy to play Amnesia without a trainer and i admit it.

PUh... you got some problems man! As far as i know BE detects only hacks you are running while playing Arma. So you don´t have to be afraid of your Amnesia trainer - scary game btw -

For your virus problems, i have no idea, but you should reinstall your OS and man up, dayz is not made for pansys. :)

it's not exactly a virus problem. My system is running flawlessly with no hitches or issues (other than not allowing me to enable hibernation mode, but that is a known Windows 7 issue). And short scans + real time protection never find anything. It's just a basic assumption that everyone ought to make that an "old" system is bound to have a virus or two that aren't active, but can be found by all sort of scanners regardless. Besides, with these, a simple system reinstall wouldn't help much, i'd need to completely wipe over 1TB of hardware to be 100% sure.

PS: The thing with Amnesia is that i can't kill them monsters! I'm fine with freaky things and jump scares as long as i can riddle them with bullets .. i'm even fine with losing all the gear that i have (Play EVE for over 4 years). But there isn't much that can be done with Amnesia ... even if you're not a pansy, that game is actually a pansy simulator.

I have had friends globally banned for trying to install Lingor Island. BE has pretty shitty customer support too.

Yeah i've read that Lingor Island might cause bans, but i've also reads that it depends from where you download the files for it from. Some places might repack it with flagged files just for fuck sake.
