What I Want To See In DayZ

Recommended Posts

Let me start off by saying that most of what you see here has probably been said already. That is good, in my opinion. It means that many other people want this as well.

During every new player video (assuming you've ever seen one), what do you always hear? "Zombies are not the problem, players are."

This is a problem. And I don't mean players being deadly, I mean zombies being just nusances instead of real threats. Medical supplies, food, weapons, and more are all a lot more common than they should be.

Why would real bandits make themselves easily distinguishable from survivors? The mystery of meeting a new player is not knowing whether or not they are friendly.

We need to make the game hard. And I mean REALLY hard. Cans of food and water are everywhere, diseases are nonexistent, everybody is running around with blood bags that magically make you completely healed in seconds, a shot of morphine heals a broken leg instantly, and sniper rifles that can rip a man in half are easy to find if you look in the right places. Seriously, in the middle of a zombie apocalypse, do you honestly expect about 25% of the surviving population to have night vision goggles and ghille suits?

We need to make this game a living hell. You should be able to get lonely and need other people close to you, be able to break not only your legs but your arms, wrists, and fingers as well, making shooting a gun or using a tool near impossible.

Casts should be needed to fix a broken bone, and it has to be worn for several days. Temperature should be a real problem, it's the coast of a country near Russia, so maybe the farther north you go, the colder the air is?

Weight limits should be placed, and the more you hold, the slower you run. You should be forced to take a breather when running for long periods of time, and you should tire faster the more you hold.

And most people consider chemlights and flares useless because there's no point in attracting attention.

Bicycles should be more common, ATV's and helicopters extremely rare (maybe one found once a month, GLOBALLY)

Deer stands should have CZ 550's and Enfields instead of AK-74s and M9s.

And why the heck are there so many NATO guns? The setting is considered by many to be an eastern Europe country, so why are there very little soviet guns like the SKS and Mosin Nagat? And those should be considered military grade weapons.

Magazines should be found half empty, weapons should need repairs or cleaning or even both.(new barrels, sights, oiling, etc.)

Please let me know what you think.

I kinda agree, and kinda dont.

You do make soe very good points, but there needs to be SOME level of forgiveness in the game, theres enough spawn campers and griefers as it is, can you imagine how shit it would be if it became MORE difficult to heal yourself, new players on the coast wouldnt stand a chance. Though I agree sniper rifles do need to be toned down or removed altogether, there is NO reason whatsoever to have a map full of AS50's.

I think this is a great idea. DayZ has to be much harder and i think this would give people a reason to actuallz team up even if they don't know each other and don't just shoot at the sight of a survivor. I totally agree with you on the weapons topic, that there should be hunting weapons on deer stands and not military loot. As for the NATO weapons, that's the story of ARMA II, the US are invading the country.... But: that's definetly what we need

Best if that would be put to one "Realistic" difficulty level, that would be harder than actual Hardcore Expert. Why? Because not everyone fancy such a hardcore playing, some survivors are simply casual weekend players who want to relax, not have !UBER REALISTIC PLAYER HATING SURVIVOR SIMULATOR! But yeah, guns are FAR too common. I must admit that people are even more rich than before apocalypse, in every fire station there are weapons, in every deer stand damn machine guns and in most houses/barns Hunting Rifles and Pistols. Hatchets - ok. This one can be in any house. But people would rather be equipped with damn kitchen knifes, baseballs and shovels than specialised AS50 TWS guns sitting in ghillie on top of the building sniping people (wanna say that every single Chernorussian citizen is soldier, or even more - commando?).

So I stopped at the point where you said this:

"Why would real bandits make themselves easily distinguishable from survivors? The mystery of meeting a new player is not knowing whether or not they are friendly."

Do you have ANY idea how long EVERYBODY was complaining about the game needing the bandit skin back after it was removed? A pretty damn long time. I would steal half of your beans if I could, just for suggesting that, especially this soon after it finally being added back.

I'll keep reading, and edit if necessary.

Edit; Okay, besides that, the suggestions are pretty good, and indeed suggested before. (Which is why you should use search more.)

These features shouldn't be a priority right now, however. The release date of the standalone has been sketched out to October / end of November, so Rocket should put most, if not all, of his resources to that.

Yeah, that would actually be a really good idea. I would have said more, but it would completely match what you said after the first sentence.

I agree with Rocket focusing on standalone first. However, just because everybody was complaining about it doesn't mean it's a good reason to side with them. Sure, it sucks being killed by someone who said they were friendly, but when you look at the realism side.... But like someone else said, these could just be part of a "Realistic Difficulty" option.

Totally agree with you there. I was thinking maybe you could regain some blood every five to ten minutes, not much, just 20 or so.

I can't argue with that, and Im always against suggestions about making the game easier.

Besides for the bandit skin.

The reason why that is, is the fact that DayZ has turned from a Zombie Survival to a "Find a gun and shoot everybody you see."

If the whole bandwagoning wouldn't have happened, the community would still probably be mature enough to survive without the bandit skin.

Yes. Just everything you said yes.

AS50s etc are FAR more common that CZ550s. A complete hive reset for everyone and a way to stop duping would make the game a lot better imo.
