more than one kind of map to find.

Recommended Posts

I would like to suggest that there be more than one kind of map to find. each with varying degrees of detail and availability. the less detail the map has the easier it should be to find.

Train/bus map - commonly found at train and bus stations

this map shows a VERY styalized map of only the big majour roads and towns with no sense of scale. It's usefullness will be very limited. But if you find a station or town name you will at least have a vague idea of where to go.

Road map - usually found in fuel stations and shops

this map shows the roads only. It is good for basic navigation, but does not have proper grid references. So it could not be used to locate hidden items or other players locations.

Atlas - uncomonly found anywhere. including houses (peoples library's)

the current map.

Military map - found only on military zombie officers

an atlas with extra information penciled on it. Including the location of all military outposts, all fresh water supplies, fire houses and hostpitals.

It is possible that the military map could be used in conjunction with intel also found on said zombie officers to find hidden weapons cash's, secret bases or downed aircraft etc

In all likely hood this will only be implementable in the standalone. However It should make navigation easier at first and lead to long term goals and more interesting gameplay.

Also you should be able to find a GPS in the glove box of some cars. (lord knows how your going to charge it though)

No one needs a map other than new players and veteran players prefer to not use the auto-map-gps feature on "Regular" servers.

These items are only going to take up the place as most worthless item to find other than empty soda can or empty tin can.

You should use something like http://dayzdb.com/map with an ingame compass, even then, figuring out North from the beach is easy peasy, and moving east-west isn't too hard either, so you can determine where you need to go without even a compass...

New additions are great for the game, but I'm sorry that this just isn't worth putting in.

(EDIT I like the idea of easier GPS kits, they should be more common, and yes should use batteries as I think the community agrees on that)

I wholeheartedly disagree with Charb. I would not consider myself as a new player (been playing since beginning of May) and I find a map in-game is very useful. I Only play on "veteran" set servers so I don't get my position on the map whe using one.

I know that there are players that knows Chernarus area like the back of their hands, having no trouble finding their way without map or compass, but I (and many others) do not

Using the compass, or direction of sun /shadows/starry sky/, the map is essential for me to find my way. I really don't like to use off-game maps such as loot-map or similar, because I find that destroying the immersion. I should only be able to navigate with the help of a map, if my character finds one, thus I find Deanmanwalking's suggestions really good.

PS. I would love if the waypoint feature on the map was disabled.

agree. I think way points should only ever show up as pencil markings on the map and never during game play. that way you have to actually use your map and GPS to find where you left stuff.

You shouldnt be able to zoom in on a map either (at least not too much). Dont know about you but i dont have telescopic eyes.

This would be awesome if maps weren't so readily available online. I never even use my in-game map cause the terrain detail is so much better on the loot map.
