pfheonix 3 Posted August 24, 2012 (edited) You guys are so quick to stomp all over peoples ideas. Quickly stereotyping them and bringing up dragons and wizards and other stupid shit. Knights and armour do exist, therefor this is a valid suggestion. There is nothing unrealistic about what he has suggested, and this forum is for suggestions. If you just read it and commented "no" then why even bother? Atleast make a constructive and informative reason as to why you think this isnt a good idea. ANY other response please just dont even bother.Think carefully about this: he's talking about a suit of plate mail. Found in rundown castles. That in itself is ridiculous. Unrealistic to the max, if you will. A) the metal would have corroded over the years, B ) there would be no padded fabrics that normally come with the suit in good condition, C) plate mail wasn't common in France or England, let alone eastern Europe. Add to that the fact that the reason knights were mounted is because they could barely walk in that armor, and they had TRAINED in the stuff for years. Your average infantryman couldn't even do that, let alone a civilian. Mail doesn't just pop on and grow lighter. You can barely shuffle in that stuff if you have full combat gear on. Alongside that, his suggestion of the metal being shiny is ridiculous. They didn't have shined metal combat armour. They had dull metal because it was supposed to be tough, not pretty. So a large amount of his post IS unrealistic. I understand your point of view as a moderator, but we have to point out that this suggestion is stupid. Plain and simple. Photolysis 25 Posted August 24, 2012 Let's start off listing the ways this is stupid:1) Plate armour is extremely heavy and requires a great deal of experience to be able to move moderately quickly in. Someone with no training would barely be able to manage the weight of simply wearing it.2) Any actual plate armour replicas would be for purely ceremonial and display purposes and not designed to function as actual armour3) Plate armour is not at all impervious, and the joints present significant weak spots. It's main function is to protect from slashes, which it does quite well.4) Plate armour provides limited protection from crushing blows and other blunt force. Zombies charging in sufficient numbers would be able to easily inflict blunt trauma through it and cause fractures.5) Plate armour would provide no protection from bullets. It could be pierced with sufficiently powered medieval weaponry, and primitive firearms, which had muzzle velocities and energies far smaller than today's firearms. If it were realistically implemented, all it would do is function as a giant noisy dinner bell / coffin.
Yumbra 0 Posted August 26, 2012 (edited) "Add to that the fact that the reason knights were mounted is because they could barely walk in that armor" - Actually knights can run in armor, learn history! You're saying that every knight is mounted in medieval wars, good one"Your average infantryman couldn't even do that, let alone a civilian" - just like a civillian knows how to use every aspect of the gun without training, good one. lets start the realism talking. And they also know how to repair the vehicle just by getting parts with a toolbox, let the list go on! Oh yeah and you can find random beans and coke in rundown castle but not knight armor, nice logic!"Mail doesn't just pop on and grow lighter" - No, the armor reflects the sunlight, it doesn't grow lighter no, LEARN TO USE YOUR BRAIN"They had dull metal" - Define dull metal and give your source please, I don't think you know what you're talking about.Castle is made at medieval times and so does knight armor, you use geographic logic and try to say that no knight armor exist in russia because it's "not common in europe" whatsoever is just naive and dumb. Don't you know that knight armor existed in Russia at medieval times. Edited August 26, 2012 by Yumbra
