Realistic Weapons

Recommended Posts

There are a plethora of DayZ weapon improvement/implementation threads floating about, some with fantastic ideas and others filled with ridiculous fantasies. Coders will never be able to please all, nor is it their aim or duty to do so, however I feel community involvement is a great way to keep content fresh.

I don't demand, expect, hope or wish any of the following ideas to be implemented into DayZ but if they were it would be my ideal vision of a "zombie realism" mod.

Being that the current DayZ is set in some fictional Russian satelite country Eastern European weaponry would outnumber western weapons by a great proportion.

Anyways to the list of weapons, their spawnpoints, logic behind implementation and what it would replace.

Pistols:

Makarov - Remain as is. Spawns in civilian housing/deer stands.

Makrov PB - Suppressed Makarov. Spawns in military locations.

Tokarev TT - Replacement for the 1911 in terms of abundance and spawn locations. Increase the audible range slightly. Spawns in civilian housing/deer stands.

Nagant M1895 - Replacement for the "revolver". Spawn rate equivalent to the Makarov. Spawn in civilian housing/deer stands.

Beretta M9 - Interchangeable 9mm Luger ammo due to abundance. Slight accuracy buff, biggest advantage being capacity. Common spawn in helicopter crash sites.

Yarygin MP-443 - Interchangeable 9mm Luger ammo due to abundance. Replaces the glock. Common military spawn only.

CZ-75 - Interchangeable 9mm Luger ammo due to abundance. Spawns along the edges of the map in "border checkpoints".

Others:

22LR Rifle - Used for hunting. Very limited range and audible distance. Large quantities of ammo found. Spawns in farms/civilian housing/deer stands.

Shotguns:

Baikal MP-153 - Replacement for the Remington 870. Spawns rarely in farms/most commonly deer stands.

Saiga 12GA - Replacement for the M1014. Spawns in military locations only.

Sub Machine Guns:

Bizon PP-19SD - Remain as is. Spawns in military locations only.

H&K MP5SD6 - Slight damage buff, but remain relatively the same. Spawns in helicopter crash sites only.

Skorpion VZ82 - Replacement for the PDW. Uses common ammo of the Makarov. Spawns along the edges of the map in "border checkpoints".

9A-91 Avtomat - Hard hitting, low ranged sub gun with low audible range. Spawns in military locations only.

Rifles/Assault Rifles:

Mosin Nagant - Replacement for the Lee Enfield with a slight accuracy buff to make up for the mag capacity. Spawns in civilian housing/farms.

SKS - Uses same ammunition as the AKM. Slight accuracy advantage over the AKM with roughly the same audible range. Spawns frequently in civilian housing/farms/deer stands.

AK74 - Remain as is. Spawns in military locations only.

AK74 Kobra - Remain as is. Spawns in military locations only.

AKS-74U - Remain as is. Spawns in military locations only.

AKS-74U Kobra - AKS-74U with Kobra reflex. Spawns in military locations only.

AKS-74U Kobra Suppressor - Replacement for the M4A1 CCO SD. Spawns rarely in military locations.

AKM - Remain as is. Spawns in military locations only.

Molot AR-15 - Semi-Auto only sporting rifle with irons. Uses STANAG type magazines. Range roughly out to 400 meters. Spawns very rarely in civilian housing and uncommonly in deer stands.

Molot AR-15 Rakurs-P - Semi-Auto only sporting rifle with Rakurs-P collimating optic. Uses STANAG type magazines. Range roughly out to 400 meters. Spawns rarely in deer stands.

FN M16A4 RCO - Same as current M16A4 with Trijicon Acog TA31. Accuracy buff to 500 meters. Spawns in helicopter crash sites only.

Colt M4A1 CCO - Remain as is. Spawns in helicopter crash sites only.

L85A2 SUSAT - Same as L85A2 AWS except with a SUSAT optic. Spawns in helicopter crash sites only.

SA VZ.58 - Uses same ammunition as SKS/AKM. Slight accuracy buff over AKM with roughly the same audible range. Spawns along the edges of the map in "border checkpoints" and in deer stands.

Saiga .308 - Powerful hunting rifle with 300 meter effective range with 1 hit kills to 600+ meters. Magzine capacity of 10 rounds. Spawns uncommonly in deer stands and rarely in farms.

Sniper/DMR Rifles:

PSL 7.62x54R - DMR rifle with effective range of 600 meters. Shares ammo with Mosin Nagant PSL and SVD. Spawns along the edges of the map in "border checkpoints".

Dragunov SVD Camo - DMR rifle with effective range range of 800 meters. Shares ammo with Mosin Nagant, PSL and SVD. Spawns rarely in military locations only.

RPK-74 - Light machine gun equipped with 100 round drum magazine. Effective range of 400 meters. Does roughly the same amount of damage as the AK74 rifles. Shares magazines with AK74. Spawns rarely in military locations only.

PKM - Heavy machine gun with 100 round belt. Effective range of 800 meters. Very audible with low ammunition spawn rate. Spawns very rarely in military locations only.

Yeah I don't think it'll ever happen but they will add more weapons for sure, especially in the stand alone version!

As I always say, we must wait n' see and trust in Rocket to know what is best. Also what to spend time on with coding n' all. :P

Love the effort you put into writing this. And the variation is plentiful.

As a mod, though, I don't think all of these could be implemented as they're missing from the vanilla ARMA 2 / OA. (As far as I know.)

Maybe in standalone?

Nice post man

Although, my 2 cents: I'd like them to just fix the current ones, instead of spending development time on stupid dogs.

Some fantastic highlights of the current situation:

It takes 4 x .45 bullets to kill a guy (m1911, Revolver) = total BS

It takes 2 x .303 high-velocity high-energy rifle rounds to kill a guy (Lee Enfield) = total BS wank

The current weapons are realistic too ;) But I like the list since those are more "common" weapons for civilians and more suitable for the setting and location of Chernarus in DayZ.

Personally I would like to see more hunting rifles and small arms.

@Leeu; I'm not sure, but if I shoot one .45 bullet in your arm, you won't die (you will pass-out though). The problem is that the engine behind DayZ doesn't see where you hit someone, except for some basic locations (like head, torso, legs and arms). A headshot is an instant kill, torso requires 2-4 shots and arms and legs even more... If the engine was perfect it would even see if you'd hit the heart or lungs, otherwise it still would require a couple of shots to kill someone... no matter which weapon or caliber.

Actually, when the British made the Spalding Expedition, they reported Chinese Boxers taking 4 Lee Enfield rounds at point blank and still fighting. It matters little how much energy a bullet has if it doesn't fragment or expand in the body. Bullets have to make holes.

Authors who use "kinetic energy transfer" as an explanation of how a projectile causes a particular injury are missing the crux of wound ballistics, as well as spreading the worst kind of misinformation; that which induces complacency by masquerading as knowledge.

I like the effort, but where are the Anti-materiel rifles?

Barret m99, or the russian one?

.22lr rifle would be a great addition. Give it really good sights and it's the perfect zombie killing gun.
