Standalone: Magazine in gun doesn't use inventory space.

Recommended Posts

I figure this may be a hardcoded mechanic, so it can wait until standalone, but I'd love it if this was included in the initial release.

It makes zero sense to me that a magazine that is loaded into my current gun takes up a slot in my inventory. It isn't in my inventory, it's in my goddang gun. I think it would be great if instead of it taking up a lot, it goes into your gun. Then maybe the gun has a green bar next to it to show it's load, and you can right click on the gun and say 'remove clip' or something.

I always get really annoyed when I have 7 colt mags and 1 bandage in my inventory, but it says 7 | 6, instead of 7 | 7 like I think it should. I have 7 mags sitting there in my inventory, shouldn't I have 7 spares? If they changed this mechanic I would, and I think it would be much better. :)

Well they are redoing the whole inventory system from scratch so I assume they will fix this too

Is it such a problem? I consider that it account for the weight of the mag on the gun that you are carrying, remember?

A simple and logical suggestion, you have my beans and my support.

It's only logical if you believe your inventory solely consist of your pockets instead of your total carrying capacity.

Otherwise it's nit picking.

I do believe that, when I open my gear I imagine looking into my backpack or pockets, if you didnt ever keep a clip in your gun then obv you would have less space but if you kept one stored in your gun then you'd have that much more room.

If the inventory was really based around encumbrance, the 30 pound AS50 and M107 and 25 pound SAW would replace your backpack and the 14 pound rocket launcher would go in your primary slot. Arma II plays fast and loose with common sense.

Good suggestion. It can't take up space in my pockets when it's loaded in the gun I'm carrying around in my hands.

Your argument would be quite valid if the game used such a mechanic (total carrying capacity), but it doesn't.

At present the only mechanic I can see is inventory slots per item depending on their bulk/mass, they do not have a 'weight' nor does your character have a total carrying capacity after which penalties to your movement etc are applied.

Logic suggests that if I take a magazine from it's pouch on my vest and load it in to my gun, that chest pouch slot is now empty...and therefore I can put something else in it.

Even if they introduced a total carrying capacity your argument still wouldn't hold, as long as I didn't go over my total carrying capacity rating I could still put something in the empty slot.

What i mean is that's a simplified mechanic that does the job well and avoid edge cases where magazinges are placed in an already full inventory.

I'm looking forward to the inventory overhaul. I'd like very much to have a modular inventory, where you can gain or lose slots in a variety of ways. I'm not sure how much power the new engine will have in that regard, but this game is one of the few coming out that really could do something amazing and important with video game inventories. Remember when Alone in the Dark tried to have your inventory inside your coat, and failed to make it believable and effective? I think DayZ could do the "Inventory as stuff stored on your person" in a really terrific way. I assume there's a thread to discuss this, I'm going to go find it.

a standard chest rig is designed to hold 7 magazines *full frontline ammo* depending on how you set it up. very basic is holding GPS, knife, NVG, cleaning kit, bandage, *can also be on the weapon* compas, notepad and pen, rope, sling, 2 water bottles. 2 grenades,

20 slots

now depending on rigs some can hold much more and people on ops will carry much more on their person. for example. Ass end arnold of a section may have a claymore, 66 as well as a pack.

Now I know we are not playing as soldiers but as a survivor I would want to be carrying all of this. Its not that heavy at all even with a pack

Makes sense, even the most basic webbing can hold like 4 mags + 1 in gun? and that's around your chest of legs.

They are re-vamping the inventory though so hopefully this will be added :)

Have some BEANZ!

Should you be able to tape double mags for faster reload at least for some weapons like smg/assault riffle? ^^

And combine half empty or so mags... I have annoying habbit to reload always after few shots and then my inventory is full of clips that have 2-4 bullets inside them... Cant even fight off zeds when you have to reload after every 2 shots :P

Topic started has my beans, I have been thinking the same thing..

For pistols yes. but not main weapon. full frontline is 7 mags. maybe more for SF BN's or Regiments. howerver in a zombie apocolyps you could never have enough

I think you should be able to carry a small 66mm with you. I mean these things weigh what 5kg and can take out a veihcle

With all of this talk of webbing, has no one wondered what you're using to hold those 12 slots of equipment, secondary weapon, and 8 tools?

Just saying...

its called webbing, like i said chest webbing holds up to usually 20 items. not including a tool belt or pistol holster or pockets. the game is unrealistic as all fuck

You guys are overcomplicating it. The point is that if I have a bag full of stuff, and I take out a magazine and put it in my gun, I could put another magazine in the bag, as the space is now available.
