When do you decide Friendly or Bandit?

Recommended Posts

I haven't played for some weeks now bot wow' date=' dayZ has gone down fast.

From the respones in this thread it seems as if dayz degraded to easymode with one rule: Shoot everybody on sight. This hasn't always been this way and no, I won't and will never do that, no matter how many times you douches kill me :P

I just started recently, and well, what iv'e read on the forums, it's as you say, i'ts declined rapidly.

The fact that 90% of the community has the mentality of "shoot first, ask questions later" is starting to piss me off.

And it almost "forces" you to play that way, that or stop playing.

Iv'e been killed in the middle of nowhere (out in forests a looong way from any towns) , as I mentioned in my previous post, up at green mountain, I took one step inside the "compund" and got a shot to head, etc etc.

And most ppl (servers running the latest beta patch) don't reply to "Friendly!?" in the direct chat.

Heck I saved a poor guy's ass earlier today in Cherno.

I was scouting so I'd gone up on the "roof" of the factory in the centre.

Heard gunshots, dropped to the ground, saw a guy running down the street with 15 or so zeds after him, I took out my Enfield, told him in chat, "head for the hospital, i'll cover you".

He did just that, climbed the ladder, I killed of the zeds, He responded with "thx" then shot me.

I'd really like to establish a hundred strong armed protection force inside the game that has the experience, desire and firepower to establish safe havens around the map and respond en masse to requests for help...with enough balls to take out anybody who tries to trap us.

I'd be really, REALLY interested in setting this up if we can enoug interest?

I wish we could get rid of the ridiculous black & white tags: Friendly, Bandit...what the hell do they mean...it is as though everyone fits one or the other. Maybe that is the problem though: for too long people have been spoon fed games which encourage the notion that there is "good" and "bad".

DayZ mirrors the real world a little bit better than that: sure, there will be some people who are flat out evil, but there will be very few people that are flat out saints: the fact is everyone in DayZ will at one time or another kill someone who probably did not particularly deserve to die.

I do not automatically assume when I get killed that it was a "bandit".

I have killed six people in total since starting on DayZ around 3 or 4 weeks ago. Of those six, only one was a flat out, considered murder...I saw the guy from a distance and just decided I was going to try and kill him.

Of the rest, all happened quickly and were largely the results of my reaction to people who appeared at close range with no warning...a bad case of wrong place and wrong time.

Everyone has moments like that and everyone in the game will at one time or another simply watched as someone passed them by, and more often than not the other party was never even aware they were being watched.

Lets get rid of "bandit" and "Friendly" and accept it as it is...black, white and one hell of a lot of grey.

I have the latest Beta patch installed and none of the chats work for me. Nobody seems to be able to read what I write in the chats I have left (Group, Direct and Vehicle) So I don't 'try' to ask questions and to be nice anymore. I killed two players in Elektro yesterday and one more today in the north. No hesitating, no trying to find out if they are friendly or not, just shoot to kill.

I was a nice guy trying to mind my own bussines and to get along with players I met in game but since I've been killed many times like I just killed those players, Mr. Nice Guy is dead.

I'm hoping to counter some of the cynicism in this game with good old fashioned teamwork.

I'm friendly until I hear the shots fired at me; then I run like fuck! Returning fire is my last option.

I'm pretty much the same way. I try to be sneaky and situationally aware so I see other players first' date=' and when I do, I discretely go the opposite direction.

I've spotted and slipped away from half a dozen people without them ever knowing I was there.

People seem to enjoy and even expect the confrontation, playing the game like a console shooter. A fire fight in ArmA is definitely not as simple.

I find it more rewarding to slip out of the back of somewhere and double back, maybe even get the chance to watch them ambush an empty barn.

I have never once fired the first shot, and I always type/speak in direct chat first, but nowadays pretty much end up in firefights with everyone who isn't on Teamspeak as they almost invariably try to shaft you from behind.

I have teamed up with several random players before but EVERY time they have turned on me when I am not looking. Luckily most of them were Makarov toting beach monkeys who got the first shot(s) in but didn't kill me and were noobish enough to approach me while I lay there unloading a whole clip into them...the flies start buzzing, I patch myself up and go on my way.

As a social behavior experiment it's certainly returning some interesting results but it doesn't really reflect human nature as most of these people simply find it too hard NOT to shoot because they are so used to doing that in other games with no real consequences.

This game needs a police force...

I actually had a "fight" in elektro 20-30 mins ago.

Um, I were in the firestation (the one furthest to W, "facing" Cherno) and slipped by a couple of zed,s started hearing alot of shots going of nearby, so I ran upstairs and hugged a corner, trying to ID the shooters.

The gunfire started to quiet down, and I thought "okay either someone is dead, or just shooting zeds"

Now the second I moved, some guy started firing on me (missed 4 rounds, they hit the glass-panes and the wall) I was a the top floor of the firestation, had a rough idéa of where he was shooting from.

First off I said "friendly!" in D-chat, no response, threw a smoke nade that landed badly on the 2nd floor of the firestation.

But used it anyways as a "fake-out", then I just waited halfway up the stairs between the 2nd-3rd floor.

A head popped up, I fired a few shots from my Makarov, he died.

Then I heard more footsteps, so I reloaded, and a 2nd guy came up, he got 1 shot off on me, then he died.

Bandaged myself, and waited around for more footsteps, all clear, checked the bags/gear, not much, some spare ammo etc, one of them had a M1911 and 1 clip, looked like they had just respawned like I had a couple of mins ago.

When I'm about to head down the stairs, *bam* hear a nade followed by AK fire pretty damn close by , and a guy comes running up, I shot him as well, same deal there just makarov and some food.

Then I threw a smoke in the vauge direction of where the AK fire came from, and legged it.

Now, someone tried to kill me first, and I identified myself as "friendly" on D-chat, AFTER they tried to put a bullet in me, and got no response, but I still feel a bit bad about the whole thing, for all I know, the guy with the AK (which I never killed) was the one who tried to kill me from the start, and these 3 guys perhaps would not have killed me, given the chance.
