Be careful if you add a map marker, everyone with a map can both see and delete them. (you can have some good fun because of this!) If you want to put a hidden marker on the map, add it when you are in direct chat, this way no one can see or remove it. ;)

Double tap the key to keep them on-screen! EDIT: You can change the key bindings to what ever you want, if I remember rightly the GPS isn't already mapped.

The ACE mod had a good compass but it took up a lot of the screen, because of exactly what you are requesting. If you are pointing out enemies, calling them by degrees is pretty specific, you could be up to ten degrees out depending on where you are stood in relation to your team. You could remember where N/S/E/W are, which is pretty easy, then then just go by halves and quarters. Here are the numbers if you don't own a compass.
