Map Borders

I was curious when I was skirting the north end of the map looking for anything i could salvage. How do i tell where the map border or end or edge is at. I would think it would be bad to log out when your outside the map but Im not sure. Any insight on this would be great thanks. Also search all the key words i could think of and nothing popped up.

When flying, I've actually seen the world just end. It was quite scary as I had stopped paying attention and the next thing I saw was the ground ending! Luckily I managed to turn the chopper round just before I crossed that line though! I wouldn't want to risk crashing it!
