The bandits are great thread!

There is a hugh amount of threads about how DayZ has turned into a deathmatch game.

People suggesting all kinds of things like: how Zombies could be more hungry for bandit flesh and people with -humanity getting mad and start laughing manically to reveal their position. (yes these are real suggestions i have heard)

Some even want PVE servers, which just doesn't make any sense.

Now I do agree that there is alot of pvp and as a bandit like myself i do tend to always shoot. There can definatly be clever ways to encourage people to not always shoot. I actually wouldn't mind it.

But people have to understand that this game is in its alpha stage.

Anyone who has played for more then a week will notice that its not really that hard to survive vs the Zombies.

Its very easy to collect stuff you might need, especially if your more then one.

I mean right now there really isn't that much of a late game. Thats why its fun to fight vs other players. Because fighting players is tens and more exciting then killing zombies.

If there where no bandits, what would you do?

You would have no use for gathering awsome weapons, since a winchester is normally all you need vs zombies. Sniper rifles for exampe would be completly pointless.

Bandits add alot to the game, im not saying everyhing should be about killing eachother. But it should be a part of the game.

There is just so much whine about bandits, people giving -rep to bandits. I for example I posted a video of me and some friends completly killing 2 suriviors with a minigun on a damaged huey.

I thought it was hillarious but always some that seem to get mad.

Its a game guys, just stop hating and kill us ingame instead.

No bandits don't play fair, yes they ambush people. That just mean you have adapt to it. This is a survival game after all.

If you type "need help in Cherno" don't be dumb enough to expect that the player offering you help will be friendly.

This is what many players want a bandit to do. But thats not how things work.

As the game is right now, are you really surpised there is alot of PVP?

Lets say IF there would be a PVE server for this alpha version. I would almost be willing to bet that after a few days you would get bored.

Bandits add alot to the game. It makes you look around in the forrest, it keeps you on your toes.

They add alot to the game so less hatin. KKTHNXZ etc etc..

Short answer: The Internet collective is stupid.

The long (and more correct) answer: Hype.

DayZ is overhyped as some big zombie survival game for everyone in the same vein that Minecraft was hyped as a giant sandbox for everyone.

DayZ is a LOT like Minecraft, hear me out guys.

Both had a surprise shortly into alpha/beta release in the form of mass players. Everyone flocked and hyped the game up, and then players started complaining about getting PvP killed/griefed etc.

Now, Minecraft has it setup so that servers manage the player database, meaning you can go to full PvP/griefing allowed servers or not. When plugins and safety add-ons started rolling in, a lot of the griefer issues subsided. Minecraft was called a "carebear" game and most of the griefers left.

DayZ on the other hand has everything working around a central server, meaning all players must operate under the same rules across all servers. PvP, naturally, overrides PvE, as we've seen with Minecraft that PvE only can get very boring (vanilla Minecraft gets dull within a month, DayZ would too if PvP didn't exist) so this is a fully open PvP game ripe for the griefing.

Now everyone just wants their zombie survival without banditry, or NPC bandits, and for that there's a co-op mod. However, the popularity of ArmA2/DayZ is sudden, and many people miss the Chernarus Apocalypse mod sticky. It will take a VERY long time for the shockwave that is the internet to die down. Case in point: Who remembers MySpace?

Didn't think so. Hype and playerbase will subside into something manageable in due time.

I'm not a bandit myself but I'm quite glad you guys are in, you add "spice" to the game.

The fact we don't have the bandit skin anymore makes everything more exciting.

Of course I'd love to have a better ingame communication system (because, I that's ALL we need to solve the "so called" deathmatch problem) at least to use my mic and tell someone, with my own voice, "I am friendly, just drop the gun!"

I was about to make a post in the bandit forum. Funny. A survivor who's glad of having bandits in the server.

Anyway I think we should just sit down and think:

There are no more bandits anymore, we are all survivors. The only thing we change is our game style, and everybody has its own.

I love this game.

as someone who never played minecraft...why do people keep comparing this to minecraft? All the minecraft videos I have seen are people building stuff the LotR cities and the NCC 17-1D to scale as well as nope.avi

Minecraft has no goals, it's just a giant world where you need to survive as you see fit.

That's why it gets compared, I assume.

Anyway... There are no bandits anymore, 'mkay?!

All of you who used to hang out in the Bandit Campfire and share your stories about banditry, this is over, you're not special anymore, you're not unique. There are no bandits because now everyone is one. When being a killing and stealing has become the way to play, all bandits were extinct.

The only way to be singular now is by being a good guy, because that's going against the flow.

Bandits are over, there are no such thing, now we're all just the same bunch of players doing the same thing everyone else is doing and we need to deal with it.

Yeah I hate bandits... the other day i finally go the crossbow i wanna learn how to use and BAMB sniper shot through a window while i was starring at it in glee.

I love bandits... today when i was sneaking around electro having just found a new crossbow and there were few zeds around i was TENSE cause i'd heard a sniper shot a few mins ago.

I love to hate bandits.

as much as i swear when they kill me.

I'm glad you guys are here

just please let me play with my Xbow? :P

As a (generally) friendly player I can say that bandits add a certain effect to the game.

They add tension in forms that wouldn't be there without it. They add an extra challenge for anyone wanting to take a risk and head to NWAF or Stary. Moments where other players were nearby and you weren't sure if they would try to shoot you were some of the scariest moments. Without bandits this game would be NOTHING like it is now. Many survivors assume that bandits take away from the survival feel of the game but instead they add reasons and incentives for taking certain actions (like finding a loud but powerful rifle that would be left alone if not for bandits). No one would try to remain hidden in forests or empty fields. Most rare weapons would never be bothered to find. Later in a life when you can survive in the wilderness near a pond and some animals bandits make sure you stay on your guard and don't leave behind your m16 or akm.

tl;dr: Bandits add to the game. Not take away from it. (from a survivor's point of view)

You people are arguing semantics at this point. The people crying for more co-op aren't saying the game is hard, or that the bandits need to be removed or penalized. Everyone plays a bandit, everyone kills eachother. The end.

Here is why PVE servers CANNOT be allowed in the game during alpha / beta development.
