  1. overall this idea certainly has some potential, i was about to post a thread about matches and one about bullets, i'll put my idea here as its really now just an embelishment. Matches - very common - 15 uses - 5% chance of wasting a match in the rain. Cheap lighter - reasonably common - 100 uses - 2% chance of wasting a use in the rain zippo lighter - uncommon - 250 uses - 2% chance of wasting a use in the rain - can be refilled with lighter fluid (one can = one inventory slot = 5 refills) Flint and steel - rare - 3000 uses - weather independent - rare spawn in deer hunting posts? what do you all think? Re Bullets, i think you should be able to carry rounds and magazines. you can store say.... 200 rounds in a slot, and one magazine per slot. you gotta keep your magazines full (right click, fill magazine). This takes time so isn't really an option in a combat situation. Benefits of this is you could carry 3 mags for your prime and a slot of bullets in your backpack. more realistic AND helpful IMO. I may post these separately if people think i should? I think if you implement something like this for a few of the tools it would certainly make people need to keep looting. Also making the basic matches more common would increase access for noobs in hunting.
  2. so i've gone through cherno 4 times now... still no matches... I'm prioritising civilian buildings (pubs, appartments, shops) but still can't find them... Anyone found them more common in any one kind of building or?
  3. addendum.... can this be made a poll? And yes whether you pay or not include donation options, you might be surprised at how much that gets you. Additionally you could offer a stimulus package of 1-3 randomly generated items on respawn (probibly want to exclude primary weapons, NVG and rangefinders though!) for those who make a threshold donation. That would be not too unbalancing and might provoke a large number of players to donate at the moment. So long as you include donation stimulus or no i'll be donating once my studnt loan comes in and i can find the link.
  4. yes yes yes!!! I would *gladly* pay a fair price for this game. However pay monthly would stop me playing it altogether. Play.4.free + buy your stuff is a terrible idea, additionally it would be completely against the ethos of day z in my opinion... the whole thrust of this game is how would you survive, and unless you're going down the sacrificing coins to the loot god in the sky (LOL) then there's no way that could be realistic. in terms of money making options, have you considered in server advertising? i mean there's billboards and stuff on the map...

    Vigilante play

    pyro's friend = a baddass! yeah telling pker's from nonpkers was why i started the thread. *no* i dont wanna see the bandit skin return lol. just wondered how other people approach it. I generally observe with binocs for a bit and try to get a feeling for whats going on. Somtimes i get close enough for direct and pretend i'm a noob to see what the guy does. topic of shooting zeds for noobs.... i helped a noob trapped in the electro firestation yesterday... did an awsome me guiding him and using smoke bombs to keep the zeds organised.... well yeah then he killed hm when i turned my back... lame.

    windowed mode?

    hey all, i play dayz on steam and have ARMA II + arrowhead as two seperate purchases. the only way i can launch the engine in windowed mode is to selected that launch option from steam but the only way dayz will work is to select "launch combined operations" from steam.... i can't find a way to change it to windowed in game either.... anyone know a workaround? ta much :)
  8. Hey all Whenever i see a playerkiller camping a snipe spot or similar i actively go out of my way to mess with/kill/force him to leave his position. I have been wondering if anyone else plays in a similar way? I limit this to snipers atm as they are more obvious playerkillers... i have been wondering what signs i could look for in non snipers... atm i just stalk and observe... often a noob gets killed while i wait an see lol.
  9. oh in case anyone wonders : AB - universal receiver. AB can receive AB, A, B and O groups without problems. A - Can receive A and O groups. AB and B groups will result in transfusion reaction. B - Can receive B and O groups. AB and A groups will result in transfusion reaction. O - Universal doner. Can receive O group only. O blood can be given to AB, B, A and O groups.
  10. hi there I was ruminating on the blood system while taking samples up the the heamatology lab. here's my thoughts on some changes. First thing - include ABO/Rhesus blood grouping. Probably the best way would be to randomly generate each character's blood group. It would probably a good idea to make everyone Rhesus negative though, that would leave the possible groups : AB, A, B, O. Now add a direct giving set that allows transfusion at 200blood/second between players. However if the blood given is incompatible with the reciever it should have a negative effect. ------Subsequent game-play changes------ 1. In real life we continuously produce blood in a balance with our losses. So long as those losses dont get to much too quick (like a bleed), we maintain a good level. Now in real life eating 6 stakes dosn't cure shock lol... in fact it might be inadvisable... lol Make receiving blood (by direct player-to-player giving or an Onegative blood bag) the ONLY way to directly increase blood volume. Eating different foods should primarily change the *rate* at which your blood increases. 2. Program effects of most stuts effects on your blood production rate (hunger, thurst, temperature, broken lims etc...). Also make your blood production rate faster when resting indoors/at a fire. 3. Make bloodpacks rarer. This will be counterbalanced by the direct giving set. Make much more common "plasma expanders" that can be used solo and dont increase your blood but make the symptoms go away for an hour or so. 4. Add an erythropoietin (EPO) auto injector. This should DRAMATICALLY increase your blood production rate and can be used by a solo player. I'd be imagining the ability to produce the full 12000point player blood volume in 30mins using an EPO and laying down indoors/at a fire.
  11. oooh dear i'm in two minds with this.... on the one hand it is difinately more realistic to give people limited/more specialized skills. on the other hand the way this normally works in games does cut into realism. What i mean by this is that i'm almost a doctor sure, i could probibly clean and close a wound better than most of you for sure (military people and qualified doctors/nurses/paramedics aside!). but that wouldn't stop any of you making a go of it if needs be! Maybe you should fill in a background that will give you "skills" that influence how likely you are to be successful, and the extent of your success, rather than whether or not you attempt. medical example : say i've filled in that i'm medically trained and john has filled in that he isn't. we both get shot, we both are alone, we both have everything we need (cleaning supplies, tweasers for getting the bullet out, surgical needle/thread, bandages, antibiotics (oral)). we both go for it. things could go wrong, you could leave some bullet in, you could nick an artery, you could use too much/too little antibiotics. these could all be % based chances influenced by character background and how much you've done this before ingame. in this example a doctor might well be morelikely to do all this right compared to an "average person". but a paramedic or military medic is more likley to get the bullet out without nicking an artery etc. This could create powerful team dynamics where somone isn't just "the medic". tasks shouldn't just be multiperson, they should be multiskill and multi task.
