DayZ on consoles

Recommended Posts

Rocket, told Joystiq at Gamescom that he wants to bring DayZ to consoles and he's meeting with console-makers at the show.

"You're not going to put it on the consoles if you're only going to sell 100,000 units or something like that," Hall told Joystiq. "DayZ will be driven by its PC development and it will innovative on that. And, once we're at a point, we'll take it and do a Mac version, 360 and PS3.

Don't do it Rocket!

I don't see why not...if the innovation and developement comes from PC and PC players and after the game is solid, built and few changes are being made...why not?

Thats more revenue for a company deserving of it. The only reason I would object is if they made it console only or sacrificed the PC for it. He is not intending to do that. So whats the problem?

Yeah I seen that. I don't know what he's thinking but if anything gets shelved to allow for consoles I'm out. I'm sick and tired of games getting gimped to play on consoles. I'll be keeping a close eye on this now. And any gimping and the mod is the only DayZ I'll be playing.

Wow well why not let console gamers enjoy dayz too? Obviously were talking years down the road depending on the success of the standalone.

More games to be ruined by the console curse... I hope they don't consume this one...

Lot's of assumptions already being made. Read what he says and take it for face value. Stop putting words in other peoples mouths and stop assuming things will happen just because they can.

I honestly can't see this happening without huge cuts in the gameplay and graphics department...

i don't see a problem. He's made it clear it's being developed as a PC first game and then possibly ported. It's when it's the other way around we need to worry.

Why is it sad trombone you say ? because Its too early in the dev cycle to announce this. Sell some early alpha access to the stand alone and let the product before announcing this kind of action. I am not saying that this move is bad or unforeseen. I feel like following a minecraft dev cycle he really waited to till he had a pushed his pc title as far as feature complete he could before he floated it over to a third party dev to handle the conversion process for 360 ports.

Don't see any problem with this at all, what the hell is wrong with you people? Some people prefer console gaming, it has nothing to do with what a game will become after it has been ported. We should actually be happy by the way, nowadays a lot of games are made for consoles first and then PC gamers get a crappy last-minute port that ruins the experience. In this case, he said it will be a port after it has become a good game, just like minecraft. Also, there is no reason at all to say that this announcement is somehow too soon.

EDIT: See the answer to my first and rhetorical question in my sig :D

The 360 has 512 mb of ram. I just can't see how a ported version is going to work and be remotely the same type of game we are seeing now

DayZ on console will probably be like TF2 on console, really crappy compared to the PC version.

Well I guess the devs, who have experience programming for consoles can see how its possible, rocket said ages ago its possible, so maybe it doesn't matter if you cant see how its possible?

Yeah then what? are they gonna try to make it Cross-platform?, then the community will be twice as bad as it is now.

and while your at it? Make it incredibly easy! so its mindless and requires absolutely no thought or any type of challenge at all!

that will sell... just look at the rest of the gaming market.

It is too soon. HE hasn't sold any units yet. Just like minecraft Notch did not out right come up before units were sold and state we are shopping to covert the title to 360. He s game was pretty far along the dev process. And if you have played either of the titles you will notice a stark differences in both. a completely different control set up for minecraft interaction. Not as many features. Less modable content. downloadable skins for microsoft points.no creative mode. a very small environment to build in. look at battlefield 3 the large maps on console are not as large as PC maps.

That's what they all say at the beginning, just look at CoD, BF and every other title that came to PC first then was dumbed down for the console crowd.

This for me is absolute terrible news and just like Gekko said 'Greed is good'.......well done Rocket.........

I doubt a game as complex as DayZ/Arma will work without incredible huge amounts of simplifications, especially in controls.

Maps have to be smaller, view distance non existand... you'd have to sacrifice a lot of what makes Dayz so awesome just to get it to run on the consoles.

Not to mention the huge amount of dumbing down you'll need to even be able to sell it on console.

+1

I do not see a console having the ability to render such large maps. Shrink the maps for consoles=no sale for me.
