New player *excited to play*

Hello everyone,

I heard about this game from reading the GW2 forums. I have not bought this game but I think I will be buying it very soon. I have read a lot of stories and guides and I’m super excited about this game.

It reminds me of an old MMO that I used to play called Asheron’s Call (Darktide Server) the first time I logged into that game some I went into the woods and started getting some “loot” then I went into town and another player killed me and took my “loot”

I got such an adrenaline rush the next time I had to go back into town making sure no one was around and then rushing into town selling all my stuff then getting out as quick as I could.

I know there is no “buying and selling” like an mmo but from what I read you still have to go into town to get different weapons and survival equipment so the formula remains the same.

Anyways I said all that to say, I’m very excited to play this game.

Pleeeaaase play the arma tutorials before joining a server. Sure they don't have any zombies or survival elements... But they'll teach you alot about the controls and mechanics. And you'll need to know those things.

I just have to facepalm when some dude asks "How do I open my inventory?" in the chat ;P

Just keep in mind that 1.) This is not your common game, and 2.) Its ALPHA stage, its not a final release.

Just a few advices.

Its in alpha so expect it to be buggy and not very stable. Also it can be hard to get into a server.

Arma 2 is a demanding game so see if your computer can run it(just because you can run for example bf3 on ultra doesnt mean you can run this on high.

When you start play tutorial first to give you a hunch of the standar controls, maybe you start to like the actual game too.

When in DayZ trust no one, dont say where you are on the chat and always expect to be shot at.

Also expect to die, eitehr by zombies or other players, it doesnt help complaining about bandits or guys backstabbing you because even if I dont really like the backstabbing its a part of the game.

Oh and also dont go deathmatch, its just plain boring, we already have to many people shooting everything on sight.

1) from what I have been reading it is very similar to the other game, Asheron's Call that I was playing. We had three names for the players in that game, "anti's" "neutral’s" and "PK's or RPK's". The anti's all knew who the long time RPK's were and would always kos them while helping any new arrival and being weary of the neutral’s. The RPK's would kos everything heheheh. In this game I read that you call them Survivors or Bandits.

2) I will keep in mind that its alpha and wont rage about bugs or glitches

Welcome to the forums wgpvictoria. I consider myself an "old school" gamer of sorts, started gaming back in 87 on the "Atari 2600". Since then, a lot of time and money have been invested into various games and gaming systems.

Hope you find DayZ enjoyable, It can be a bit hard for new players at first, but once you get the hang of it, you'll love the mod! :)

Thanks Lloyd! yeah when I first started playing open FFA sandbox games it took a while but I think ill fit into this crowd here. Back in the old days we had a little icon for all the whiners o.0 that was the carebear stare. If you couldnt hack the constant "i could be killed at anytime" gameplay then get off the server. heheheh
