How you play - Social experiment questions

Recommended Posts

Hi there,

Firstly hello and thanks for clicking, I will say now this will be a fairly long read so dont go any further then this if you dont want to read any more :).... ,<.>,

Ok so I have been playing for a few months and I have always been interested in learning about gamers and there mind set, after playing DayZ and the different things I have encountered in game through players or PVE encounters I am very interested in learning more about what drives people to do what they do in a game which gives you nothing in terms of direction.

So all I ask is if you could briefly explain how you play be that bandit, murder, medic, lone wolf, survivor, "bush survival" or whatever, I am mainly interested in hearing from the murder type game play as this truly baffles me.

Please could you explain

.How long you have been playing

.How often do you play

.Why you have chosen that lifestyle

.What drives you to play like that

.A normal session in DayZ for you

.Has this game affected aspects of your real life

.What made you choose DayZ

.Why you play DayZ

.How you feel the team has done with the game

.The impact of Hackers/ scripters

.If you have stopped playing or thinking of stopping, why

. EDIT - Will you be buying the stand a lone game

I will take the time to thank anyone who replies now :)

Thank you

AJ

EDIT:- 10:38 14/08/12

SCENARIO QUESTIONS

Thank you for replies so far guys its great stuff!!

I want to ask you a few scenario questions to get a gauge of how you would react to the said scenarios.

IF YOU PM ME

I will ask you the questions :) and post them on here thank you.

AJ

EDIT:- 15/08/12

Suppose I should answer my own questions :P

.How long you have been playing - Just over 2 months now

.How often do you play - 2-4 Times a week after 20:00

.Why you have chosen that lifestyle - Play as a survivor scavenger but normally shoot on site if you have a gun and dont reply to voice...sorry

.What drives you to play like that - I am a nice guy in RL so try and portray that over the game, but playing with my brother we tend to get paranoid (watch videos in sig lol)

.A normal session in DayZ for you - Meet up with brother, gear up, head north to NW airfield...die...repeat...LULZ :D

.Has this game affected aspects of your real life - Not really, stepped up a bit at gym to get cardioi up :P RULE #1 Zombieland

.What made you choose DayZ - Brother showed me some videos and bought it same day

.Why you play DayZ - No other game gives me a rush like DayZ

.How you feel the team has done with the game - Brilliant, 4 months into Alpha and standalone already announced O.O

.The impact of Hackers/ scripters - Hurts the game a lot but learnt to live with it... Rule #1 DayZ, dont get attached to your gear.

.If you have stopped playing or thinking of stopping, why - Holiday coming up soon so 2 weeks off but no plans

. EDIT - Will you be buying the stand a lone game - Yup!

I have stopped playing due to the scripters

My DayZ day: Get basic survival gear and some decent weapons, get nuked, and rage quit. Rinse and repeat.

I am just waiting for standalone now which hopefully will be released within 2 months.

* A few months

*Try to play at least once a day for 2 - 3 hours.

*I'm not sure what a "bush survivor" is, but I'm a survivor. I only kill when I need to, however; I will stalk humans when given the chance.

*I help when possible, but do not stay around for a thank you as it could lead to my death. I play this way because I've been in the shoes of every player who has ever been killed for no reason. I believe in humanity. I believe that I have the willpower to be better than those who are so easily bored and tempted into murder. It's nice to hear someone yelling "Thank you" as you run off, or just the sense in knowing you helped someone, plus I believe in Karma.

*Hunting/scavenging, stalking, providing overwatch for a friend

*Not really. I do see deer stands and get curious or huge radio towers. Living out in the country makes it easier to relate to the wilderness of DayZ.

*It's different. It's tough.

*To help friends, test my limits, improve my situational awareness, pass time

*Could've done better. Could have worked with BE to establish a more secure mod.

*I wish it would/could be stopped. It is massive at this point and is destroying the mod.

* I stopped once for a few weeks because I had been killed by server hoppers 3 times in one gaming session.

*If I can scrape some money together yes. The economy is rough right now. Been jobless going on two years.

I have played a few months

Used to play a bit every day, now once a week

I used to play cooperatively with other survivors and even bandits sometimes, But mostly i would hunt bandits. Now i just kill on sight.

The removal of the bandit morphing caused me to play like this now

Run around in the woods waiting to lose my reasonably nice gear and have fun again in a new life for a while before it gets boring

I dont understand how this would affect my real life

I chose sandbox survival game

I play it because its intense

The team has done well

I have only died to skiddies 2 or 3 times, but have used their gear before when i found it

End game is fucking boring, and its hard to get together with friends and play

Ill buy the stand alone

.How long you have been playing

-I've been playing for a month

.How often do you play

-I play almost 3-4 every day,but when my job and college starts i'm gonna play 2-3 times per week

.Why you have chosen that lifestyle

-Cause it came naturaly to me!I'm a "bad survivor".not a bandit, but not an inoccent survivor !I kill when i have to,but i can kill if someone picks up something i need,i'm not gonna ask for it cause simply he will not give it

.What drives you to play like that

-My instincts!I don't think,i just act

.A normal session in DayZ for you

-Log in,join my group and go loot places around us,prolly get shot and need medical asistance, have a good fight, get supplies and then head to the woods and log off

.Has this game affected aspects of your real life

-Nope

.What made you choose DayZ

-I like games like that,i like post apocalyptic games.I'm a big fan of the fallout series, and i wanted something good and realistic.I've played L4D,Dead island and COD's zombie mods, but they're all just shooters, run around and kill zombies. So i watched a couple of youtube vids, and i knew i'll lie dayz.Plus,i had arma II free and i liked it

.Why you play DayZ

-For the same reason that i got it

.How you feel the team has done with the game

-Well it has a lot of bugs and glitches, but they did a good job. It's still a mod,so we cant judge them, just wait for the standalone version

.The impact of Hackers/ scripters

-I've died from hackers, miles away from any other player.I don't really care.I had good loot, but there was no way to find my body.Still,i didn't care,it's just how the game goes.Other games have aimbots and wallhacks, this has teleportations, weapon spawning and instant kills.Hackers will always be around

If you have stopped playing or thinking of stopping, why

-I'm gonna stop playing only if i have a problem i real life,or if they made us pay a fee in order to play, like monthly and stuff

- About 2 months now

-every day or every other day depending on rl

-i help people from time to time if they are not a threat otherwise im rather hostile you cant really trust people. and from time to time i have been known to kill someone for fun. (though i put there stuff to good use)

-well at frist i wanted to be a friendly survivor but i soon noticed how hard it really is to be like that. and many backstabings/bandits killing me i became more and more hostile.

-spawn, supplys, weapons, help players or if there hostile or even just aim at me wrong i attempt to kill them, eat beans, Survive?

-well i once crouched runed across the street, jokes aside sometimes it makes me think about how i would act in real life in a life or death situation like the many i encounter in dayz (i also noticed i started looking around more...)

-loved minecraft hard core survival and was just looking for more survival stuff when a friend mentioned dayz. i bought arma 2 after seeing many youtube videos

-i feel like there doing a good job theyre reacting to the public quickly and trying to resolve problems. things could be better coded but i understand theres only so much one can do without source .

-i refuse to say hacker. cheater/script kiddie more like it a quick google and you find its extremely simple to use the cheats. and it is getting out of hand but again only so much can be done im sure the standalone will be much better

-sometimes i stop playing once im geared up enough because i get abit bored. also scripters usally get me to rage quit and stop for abit

-Fuck Yea!

How long you have been playing: Since June.

How often do you play: I play at least once a day for a few hours.

Why you have chosen that lifestyle: Ghost.

What drives you to play like that: Survival.

A normal session in DayZ for you: Trying to meet up with my buddies and then going exploring.

Has this game affected aspects of your real life: No.

What made you choose DayZ: Thought I'd give it a go as it sounded well received and something new and fresh.

Why you play DayZ: One of the most unique gaming experiences I've ever had.

How you feel the team has done with the game: Very good effort for what they've had to work with.

The impact of Hackers/ scripters. If you have stopped playing or thinking of stopping, why: It's annoying, but I'm not too phased by it.

EDIT - Will you be buying the stand a lone game: Absolutely.

.How long you have been playing

=> About 2-3 weeks

.How often do you play

=> Used to be hours and hours, but now 15-45 minutes and i log off again, maybe 2-3 hours a day

.Why you have chosen that lifestyle

=> I was the friendly wannabe-helper at first, but after being shot, mauled, left for dead with broken bones, eaten alive, etc... i'm the weary survivor. If i see you, i warn you to back off and if u come closer you're dead. i've had some people yell 'friendly friendly!' and just back off, but others just aim for your head hoping they can shoot you first. If i have to be a 'type' of survivor, i'd be 'Toughened carebear', from deep down i want to help people but i've seen enough sh1t and treachery that i just became hard for it and can shoot someone now without too much of a thought if they form a threat.

.What drives you to play like that

=> My first 100 toons getting shot for no reason, often hardly saw the guy shooting me. I once raided Stary Sobor for like an hour long, saw no one, then i right before i went north to log out, bam, a dude with an Mk48 mowed me down, just like that, i hadn't even seen him cuz of his ghuillie suit. I was like 5 feet away from him when he shot me.

.A normal session in DayZ for you

=> used to be run around the entire map looking for stuff, but now that i know what i need and where i can get it, i just run around cherno or elektro (based on where i spawn), get some decent gear (preferably an assault rifle with food, soda, map, etc...) and then just hunker down in Elektro Church and rack up some zombie kills :).

.Has this game affected aspects of your real life

=> No xD

.What made you choose DayZ

=> I saw a gameplay/fun video on youtube after scrounging through it cuz i was bored as hell. Saw it, liked it, bought ArmA 2 and the next evening i was playing.

.Why you play DayZ

=> I like the zombie-aspect, the just shooting every(thing?) on sight without thinking and saying it's good for humanity. I like the struggle, the survival, the feeling deep down inside any person, a remains from when oru ancestors really had to SURVIVE in their caves hunting mammoths and stuff, that SURVIVAL thrill is just overwhelming. Nowadays if u want food u go get a can of beanz in the store and you're set, then you had to find, hunt, gut, cook and defend your prize: a slain mammoth or other animal. I also like GUNZ :D

.How you feel the team has done with the game

=> Great, seeing as howlong the mod is actualy out yknow, alot of patches and stuff. It feels like they are really putting their minds to it and helping create a better game and ultimately becoming a standalone game.

.The impact of Hackers/ scripters

=> Sad, I remembered my first m16a2 i found, i was overjoyed, then a couple of minutes everyone started dying and i was also transported miles up in the air just to fall to my death.

.If you have stopped playing or thinking of stopping, why

=> 0 friendship with unknown survivors, i just HOPE there is some consequences for slaughtering random players, or great rewards for not doing so. Maybe pvp servers and pve and implement a group-function, more cities, cities swarming with NPC survivors maybe? Like a safe-haven for survivors, military camp, etc...

. EDIT - Will you be buying the stand a lone game: Most definately, won't say right away when it comes out because of exams, but it's definately coming on my shelf

.How long you have been playing- About a month, almost, off and on

.How often do you play- oh jeese, between a couple of different games, I play quite a bit, I boot up atleast once a day.

.Why you have chosen that lifestyle- Well I run a lone wolf, not because I have to but just, I enjoy surviving on my own.. it can be down right annoying at times, but I feel the reward I get for surviving on my own a few days is worth it.

.What drives you to play like that- I really don't know, I've always liked post-apoc settings... and I tend to play in those alone [fallout ect] so i guess it just comes natural to me to want to lone wolf.

.A normal session in DayZ for you- Well this has changed recently, it used to be just about survival, but lately... lately it's been about retrubution, to pay back everyone I come across what I've delt with, I guess I'm just finally comming to a point I want to fuck other people's day up because of how much mine's been fucked.

.Has this game affected aspects of your real life- Actually yes, I can now properly decern dirrection using the sun/moon as cardinal dirrection points, and I can properly use a map and compass now.

.What made you choose DayZ-I just kinda stumbled across it... I'm a huge zombie fan, and this offered a type of play that, well, you frankly don't get with L4D or any other zombie game on the market.

.Why you play DayZ- because despite all the bs... it's still rewarding to survive those few hours before a sniper ends your life. [and because I keep finding new stuff]

.How you feel the team has done with the game-overall decent, given it's been one guy all this time.

.The impact of Hackers/ scripters- Huge, I dont think i was in before hackers were an issue... I think I came in a bit after, still I think they've had a hugely negative impact on the game. The only one's of note I'd say are mostly harmless are the "Jason" hacker running around with a Jason friday the 13th skin stalking people, and "Ridin Dirty" who blairs Ridin Dirty while flying around on a bike.

.If you have stopped playing or thinking of stopping, why- hackers, scripters... learning curve, all of it has made me consider, I've even stepped away for a few days at a time, but I always come back.

. EDIT - Will you be buying the stand a lone game- Yep, totally.

How long have you been playing - I'd say roughly 1 month.

How often do you play? - It depends usually 1-2 hours a day but no longer than 20 minutes each server since im very very paranoid of hackers and such.

Why have you chosen that lifestyle? - Well the friend who got me into it was a "Shoot-on-sight" guy so naturally i also started it like this.

nowadays i'm still very cautious if not avoid people completely but started whenever possible setting up tents that won't rouse suspicion and leave excess equipment/ammo,medical supplies, tools and food/drink in it for other players that might have a rough time.

What drives you to play like that? - I don't really now i guess im just not fit to be an asshole

A normal session in DayZ for you - scavenging, stalking some Bandits logging out before i get nuked or shit

Has this game affected aspects of your real life - Not really other than now being able to properly read a map and use a compass

What made you choose DayZ - Nothing special really, I was curious at first but now have great fun playing it

Why you play DayZ - Why do you play Videogames? "Because it's fun, and diversified(Is that the right word? not sure not my native language)

How you feel the team has done with the game - Can't say since i've only seen 2 or so patches but im satisfied

The impact of Hackers/ scripters - Huge, like the main reason one would hate it.

If you have stopped playing or thinking of stopping, why - Mainly Hackers and Scripters

Will you be buying the stand a lone game - definitely

Thanks Womb Raider

I asked in OP for anyone interested to PM about scenario's, Raider replied

Ok, you and a buddy have just made it too Cherno, got some good loot food water matches the lot, manoeuvring past the church you hear over direct chat a random player saying he needs help, he has broken his leg to zombies and is hiding in a red building opposite the church and, this continues for 1-2 minutes, you both have morphine and can easily assist the player,

your buddy asks you "what should we do"

...

I say we should help him, but we take the adequate precautions. I say over direct chat, we will help you but we'll need you to crawl out of the building to us. I also get my buddy to go to a vantage point and watch my back. If the player refuses to come out, I'll assume its a trap so I'll leave but if he does then I'll help him and get him up on his feet.

Thanks again.

1. Ive been playing (if we are just counting from the buy date) I think about a month and a half now.

2. Usually everyday. However the past weeks Ive been hesitant to play. Hackers and what not. Though Ive also been busy. I play for about 4 hours per session. Take a break (usually an hour break) to get air into my lungs and not feel fatty fat by sitting in a chair/couch all day. Then I play again if I wish.

3. Im guessing you mean my game lifestyle lol. I scavenge, store extra items in my tent. If I see another player I ask him if he needs medical assistance or any. Ive given my gun out to people before just because I felt like being nice. If they answer and need to come close for a trade I ask them to drop their gun. If they dont want to then I ask them to leave. If they dont I shoot them. Unfortunately many a player has been shot by my hand.

4. I like meeting people. I like helping people. If worse comes to worse, in terms of my game logic, then I kill people. Which is fun too.

5. 4 hours usually. Every hours I get up though. Do some small workouts and make sure to drink plenty of water while I play.

6. No.

7. I think every hardcore gamer has always wanted a game like this. Its just that no one made it or well heard of it until now. Ive just always wanted a realistic zombie apocalypse simulator.

8. Its fun and its a challenge.

9. Very well in terms of drawing attention. However in moderating game glitches/hackers/anything of the sort... poorly... extremely. Its pathetic really. Server admins cant do shit, reporting on the forums does nothing, and BattlEye is an outdated POS.

10. It ruins the whole game. It ruins the atmosphere, it ruins looking for weapons, it ruins everything. Most people have quit because of this. Whats the point of playing if some dude is just gonna spawn in helis and AS50s and spawn you into the air and kill you over and over? I still play though. Hoping that game information is getting to the devs on how people play and blah blah.

11. I havent stopped yet. I probably wont. Im always angry for about 10 mins. Play TF2 then come back. Every time.

12. Yes. I cant wait!

.How long you have been playing

A month, maybe a little more.

.How often do you play

Quite a bit, seeing as it's summer

.Why you have chosen that lifestyle

I play as a pure bandit. I play like that because it's the easiest, fastest, and most fun way to get geared, and it compliments my squad, as most of them don't enjoy PvP as much. I can keep them safe while they loot/scavenge as they like.

.What drives you to play like that

Loot and fun.

.A normal session in DayZ for you

Spawn, meet up with squad, depending on our gear level, either head to Cherno/Elektro and get guns/supplies, or head north to Stary. Kill people, get gear, repeat.

.Has this game affected aspects of your real life

Nope.

.What made you choose DayZ

Looked fun, and it is.

.Why you play DayZ

No other game gives as intense of a thrill or as much fun.

.How you feel the team has done with the game

Pretty good, under the circumstances. It will be a lot better come standalone.

.The impact of Hackers/ scripters

Very severe negative impact. Borderline making me not want to play.

.If you have stopped playing or thinking of stopping, why

Game is pretty broken right now, with the scripters and duping. Other than that I love it.

. EDIT - Will you be buying the stand a lone game

Yes.

.How long you have been playing

About 3 months I think

.How often do you play

4-5 times a week for about 2 hours

.Why you have chosen that lifestyle

Not sure if you mean my playstyle. In this game (unlike in others where I love to help other players) I am cruel, evil and murder anything that moves (except they have no weapons).

.What drives you to play like that

I choose it because I try to play a certain role that is fitting to the games. And in a apocalypse you cant trust anyone. So I shot them before they have a chance to shot me. And it makes fun.

.A normal session in DayZ for you

Scavanging and hunting at NWAF/Stary

.Has this game affected aspects of your real life

No

.What made you choose DayZ

It is awesome. I never played a zombie apocalypse simulator before and I really like it.

.Why you play DayZ

Because of the fun of scavenging, the adrenalin while hunting other players, my heartbeat going up when I hear shots nearby and so on.

.How you feel the team has done with the game

The gameplay is better but there should be put a lot of more efford into getting rid of major bugs (especially disappering loot and graphical bugs), the hackers and server admins doing what they want.

.The impact of Hackers/ scripters

Ruins the game.

.If you have stopped playing or thinking of stopping, why

Stopped for a week because I was too pissed of. Story is in the "Farthes distance you have crawled" thread.

. EDIT - Will you be buying the stand a lone game

Yes

How long you have been playing

2 weeks

How often do you play

8 Days in a row for the first batch, slowed down a bit to every second/third day (small sample play time so hopefully that helps) 1-4 hour sessions each time. Upwards of 8 on the days where I have minmal other work to do.

Why you have chosen that lifestyle

Playing as a survivor since there's too many dickish bandits from the looks of it, my first encounter with a player was great, but it was the only good encounter so far.

What drives you to play like that

Most people shoot on site and I don't agree with it, trying to be the balance.

A normal session in DayZ for you

Sneak from tree stand to barn, to tree stand, skirt cities/factories etc and gather what I can and just explore the map as much as possible.

Has this game affected aspects of your real life

Not really, it just confirms that people are evvilllllll.

What made you choose DayZ

Zombies Survival games are far and few so this seemed like a good

Why you play DayZ

Zombie Survival is awesome (a stand alone less pvp version would be nice) (yeah i'm pussy blah blah stfu, it's just a preference)

How you feel the team has done with the game

Considering its just a mod, fantastic. I couldn't imagine they envisioned it taking off the way they have and its worked out pretty good. I'm looking forward to what they will do with it.

The impact of Hackers/ scripters

I haven't had the pleasure of dealing with them yet. I see battle eye kick/ban people several times a night though which tells me its definitely out there...

If you have stopped playing or thinking of stopping, why

Only been playing for a short time, but my friend (who loves ZS 1000 times more than I do) doesn't like it since its so stressful with the lack of end game and 'Why bother playing when everything you collect will be ripped away from you'.

Will you be buying the stand a lone game

Of course :)

First of all, sorry my PM sent 4 or 5 times, I did it from my phone and it tends to mess about like that!

Now, just a bit of background, I'm a 21 year old male from London, UK...

I tend to play as a survivor, we have a group of 6 people that regularly play together and we go all over the map scavenging and just generally having a laugh!

Here are the answers to your questions;

.How long you have been playing?

I've been playing for about a week now!

.How often do you play?

I play for a few hours practically every day (I've been off work for the past week so have been playing for at least 7 hours a day!!)

.Why you have chosen that lifestyle?

I like teamwork and find I work very well with other people! I have to work in a team for my job, which probably explains why I like being round people in the game.

.What drives you to play like that?

Interaction makes the game funner! I can't imagine running round for 8 or 9 hours on my own with no one to talk too!

.A normal session in DayZ for you...

I sign into our teams server on Mumble and find out where the guys are, travel to meet them (we have a couple of vehicles now) and try to find jerry cans to fuel up our chopper!

.Has this game affected aspects of your real life?

Nope, I already go on Survival Camps and am pretty fit so nothings really changed.

.What made you choose DayZ?

My mate recommended it to me when we were working a night shift. We both play ARMA, so I thought I'd give it a go, and I loved it!

.Why you play DayZ?

Its captured what so many zombie games haven't managed too! It actually feels like a struggle to survive and you can do what you want, when you want! That is why I play and I also find this freedom makes me feel genuinely guilty when I kill another player!

.How you feel the team has done with the game?

Very well, considering it is still in Alpha!

.The impact of Hackers/ scripters?

I haven't actually run into any yet, so I couldn't say.

.If you have stopped playing or thinking of stopping, why?

Not thinking of stopping!

. Will you be buying the stand alone game?

Do you even need to ask? Lol!

Of course I will be!!!

How long you have been playing

2 months

How often do you play

alot

Why you have chosen that lifestyle

I play as a scouter / scavenger. I don't like to pvp and will try to avoid it if possible, but if a person becomes a threat, i will go out of my way just to track and hunt you down.

What drives you to play like that

loot and teamplay ( run with a group of 5~6)

A normal session in DayZ for you

Spawn, check base's inventory, load up on inventory, move out, gun some zombies, bring back supplies. kill random person ( cause he started to shoot at you. )

Has this game affected aspects of your real life

No.

What made you choose DayZ

Family Recommended it.

Why you play DayZ

To kill time.

How you feel the team has done with the game

Great, although game could use a better anti cheat system. ( gtfo battleye)

The impact of Hackers/ scripters

Negative impact. Although not affecting me as much only when i join other servers, i mainly and only play exclusively on my server now.

If you have stopped playing or thinking of stopping, why

hmm.. Guildwars2.

Will you be buying the stand a lone game

Depends on my mood and other factors.

How good is the new standalone anticheat ( if it's battleye, i'm gonna have to think about it )

Number of maps for the game, as well as the size of the map

Asked Lord Daem a few questions.

You and your group (5-6?) have just settled down for the night headed back to base after a successful loot run and only spotted one other survivor in the tree line but paid no attention to him as he had no weapons, donning your night vision you and a buddy decide to take first watch and head to the front of the base into a few bushes, after 30minutes you buddy says he thought he saw movement at 13:00 O'clock, you swivel and scope in with your sniper rifle and can make out a human like outline standing in the tree line moving slowly, you shrug it of as a stray zombie and return to looking into your own position, another 20minutes and all it quiet and you are getting ready to switch watch when you see the unmistakable glow of 8-10 glow stick heading your way, you instantly shout over your voice coms "contact 10:00 O'clock 8-10 unknowns heading in"

Now at this point you and your team have the defensive position but have 2 cars and a helicopter parked just outside of your base and cant be missed, everything goes quiet as you suddenly notice the chem-lights get extinguished and through the green tint of the NVG you can make out at least 10 other survivors heavily armed and now crouching through the forest heading straight at you.

Your team have arrived and you with the only sniper are the only eyes-on at the moment, you can see the other group are well armed, at least 3 snipers 4 LMG and assorted rifles and even what you think is a grenade launcher, on seeing the launcher you suggest you all spread out +50m apart.

Another 5 minutes and the other group is now within 500m of your camp and it is obvious they have seen you as they are all crouched or prone and aiming your way.

One of your group decides to crouch up to get a better view and out of nowhere you see a flash in your NVG and he is dropped, now all hell breaks loose, you open fire at the first movement you see and score a clean head shot, 1-1 right? the you hear it, the thump of the grenade launcher explodes to your right taking out 2 more of your group as they attempt to flank, 3 down 3 left, muzzles flashes are distinguishable now in the tree line and bullets are whizzing over your head and the ground around your camp is being turned into target practice, another friend screams over chat, "we need to get to the car!" and as he stand up he gets dropped by the relentless bullet storm.

Now you know your base is lost and with you and one other of your group left you shout over voice coms...

...

I have Epi-Pens in my inventory, so unless everyone in my team was dead, I would revive them.

Assuming that they are all dead, rather than going for the car, I would advise the final member of my group that we have a better chance moving for the chopper, as not only can it cover more ground quickly, it is armed. Since the other team MUST have Night Vision goggles to get such good shots on us in the dark, I would throw a flare into their group, blinding them for a few seconds.

Me and my buddy would then run for the chopper, myself taking the pilot seat (as I am my groups designated pilot) and my friend jumping in the gunners seat, on the side the hostiles are on.

I would start take off, as my friend would lay down fire on the enemy group, not only to thin their numbers, but also to suppress them, so that they are unable to efficiently fire back.

My entire group is on Mumble, so we would then find out where our guys had respawned and pick them up. Then heading back to base, with my NVG on, we would see if any of the attackers have survived. If they had we would take them out, no mercy, they attacked first so we already know they are hostile.

We would then pick up all the supplies from our camp, pack up the tents and split up, three in the car three in the chopper and co-ordinate where our new camp would be. The chopper would fly to this location, 2 of the members would stay to set up camp and one would head to the edge of the forest, near the road, to lead the car in when it turned up.

This has actually happened to us before, although only 2 of our members were online and we were attacked by 6 or 7 people (they couldn't get an actual figure) and we're now in the process of acquiring a new chopper so we can move to a more northern part of the map.

More to follow from him :)

Thanks

I like helping people and getting trust

Running around in stary finding loot and healing players while killing snipers

Not really but some people I dislike like when I was a hostage I got told to do some really stupid stuff

The aspect of being able to do anything

Cause it's fun to heal people

Amazing

Never had a problem with them

More from Lord Daem

(Assume you have no friends)

You're on your own, its dark and your only saving grace is a lee Enfield with 4 rounds you found in some poor bastards house with a box of matches, couple cans of food and a can of Pepsi in the outskirts of Cherno, you have a flare but fear of attracting the walking dead or other survivor's stops you from using it, you can only see 10-15m in front of you and you are slowly crawling through the wet grass towards the tree line.

You are straining to hear any noise around you as you know how quickly a silent night can turn into a bloodbath and continue slowly in what you believe is a northerly direction, apart from the occasional grunt of the dead 50m or so away it's a fairly straight run to the tree line.

Passing what looks like apartment blocks you decide yo have a quick look inside so moving to you right you move towards then front entrance shining in the moonlight, as you get closer you hear footsteps, to quick for zombies and heavy breathing with the noise of metal on metal, you freeze and look around trying to find where the noise is coming from.

A few minutes pass and you hear nothing and deicide to continue on but draw your rifle just in case, now you are about 20m from the block and then you see it, a car, has your luck changed!? you lay still straining to see anything and move a little closer... 15m away now and you hear it clearly now, low voices in the night and rummaging from the inside of the blocks, you freeze and aim you rifle at the doorway just as two men walk out, heavily armed but they seem in a rush and dont notice your are there, they pop the boot and load the items into the back, in the dark you can see that it is full up with items of use and can even make out a couple gun muzzles sticking out the back, the car is facing away from you so if they hit the lights you would remain hidden.

You have enough to survive for a day or so but it is looking bleak unless you find more or can find an animal to eat... and with only 4 shots for your Lee Enfield with no night vision aid apart from a flare you have a decision to make...what do you do...

...

Simple, I am no bandit, but I am a survivor.

These men are heavily armed, I have no guarantee that if I announce my presence that I will live long enough to ask if they'll share their supplies.

I throw the flare over to the car, so I have some light, and duck behind a building. I go prone and aim my rifle at the 2 men shouting that I am friendly and wish to share supplies. IF they are willing, I tell them to slide their guns away from them on the floor and they will be unharmed and we share the food and I maybe get in the car with them.

IF they are hostile, I am guessing they would try to take cover behind the car. I get a can of food and throw it past them to land against a wall or something on the opposite side of the car.

The two hostiles then think I am over that way so retreat to MY side of the car. I take aim and hit one of them in the head (I am very good at getting headshots in the game).

The other hostile would now presume that there is more than one of me, as his friend was taken out. Using this to my advantage, when the hostile looks away from my direction, I would start to move towards him, rifle focussed on his chest.

When he starts to look around in my direction again, I pop 3 rounds into his chest, taking him out.

I quickly run over and loot their bodies, taking the weapons and ammunition (sticking one of the guns in the boot of the car). I then drive off as quickly as I can, as I know the sounds would have either attracted zombies, other players....or both!

  1. How long you have been playing
    Since May
    How often do you play
    Every day, 1-2 hours
Why you have chosen that lifestyle
Anti social survivor, while I don't trust anyone, I don't see the need to shoot everyone i see either, only killed two players so far, both in self defense, both bandits
What drives you to play like that
Hopefully its how I'd act in real life, i don't think i could kill an innocent person for there beans if I was staving to death, just to live for a day or two longer, probably better to die like a man than survive like an animal
A normal session in DayZ for you
Wander round, find a place of interest, kill some zombies, find some more loot, then repeat
Has this game affected aspects of your real life
    Not really
    What made you choose DayZ
I often try new Arma 2 mods when i see them, this ones a keeper though
    Why you play DayZ
while i do enjoy the killing zombie/ being alone in the wilderness side of things, you never feel more alive than when it all kicks off, the sheer rush you feel when encountering one or more players, It can go from nice walk in the woods to intense panic in seconds, no other game evokes these sort of emotions in me. Most games give you unlocks, DayZ gives you stories you could tell your grand kids on Halloween
How you feel the team has done with the game
Doing a good job, considering the negative feedback that spews from these forums
    The impact of Hackers/ scripters
Right pain in the arse, I've got an image in my mind that there Beavis and Butthead types, giggling and saying "cool" as they press the nuke button, If in reality they have more social skills than that, then i wish they would use their abilities more constructively
If you have stopped playing or thinking of stopping, why
    NA
Will you be buying the stand a lone game
    Very likely

How long you have been playing?

23 Jun 2012

How often do you play?

I have an average rate of two hours per day

Why you have chosen that lifestyle?

I'm a lone wolf, a scrounger, a trader, a survivor.

What drives you to play like that?

I try to play like I would in real life and that means that I trust nobody unless they met certain requeriments, better safe than sorry.

A normal session in DayZ for you:

I connect, check my camp, look around for other survivors scanning the zone then walk away to loot and see if there is anything odd in the area, when I'm done I return to my camp and disconnect, always in my camp.

Has this game affected aspects of your real life?

I'm not so easily scared now.

What made you choose DayZ?

I read about it in a comic called Ctrl+Alt+Supr and I though "Wow, sounds cool, let's give it a try"

Why you play DayZ?

I'm still searching for La Obra Magna of Zombie Survival games and I stumbled across an amusing game that deservers my attention, so I play because I like it.

How you feel the team has done with the game?

I'm still playing it so I think they made the right choices.

The impact of Hackers/ scripters:

I've never cross paths with one, sorry, I don't know.

If you have stopped playing or thinking of stopping, why?

I haven't, sorry.

Will you be buying the stand a lone game?

If it looks good, yes.
