Make the Camping tents more rare and Unaccessible while logged out

Recommended Posts

I really like the Camping tents, but the main problem is that it sticks to the Server itself and can be looted while you are logged off. To a lot of people this system makes it impossible to really use the tent unless they have a group of 10 people rotating and guarding the tent.

So my suggestion is that make the tent link to yourself, and when you log out the tent also disappears. The Tent could be looted if you are joined in a server and someone comes across it while your getting loot from somewhere else, but it isn't accessible while you are logged out. This will make the tent actually worth carrying around, unlike the tent right now. Tell me what you guys think and is this actually possible in the ARMA engine (to make something spawn in a coordinate when you log in)?

Someone looted your stuffs?

Cry more.

I never use tents BECAUSE I know someone is going to loot it anyway if I use it. Plus I move from server to server frequently making the item pointless.

I have no idea if it's feasible, but I disagree with this idea.

Part of the risk/reward balance of tents is that someone else can take your stuff when your not around (even offline). The fact that its persistent to a server would also be to stop exploitation of server hopping for loot spawns.

Thanks Leechman, these are the types of ideas I want to hear. I agree that the risk/reward balance is very important too. Maybe to balance things out what can happen to tents is that if your killed, the Tents become "neutral" tents which can be looted by anybody and automatically despawns after a few minutes (nobody should be able to pick it up due to server problems which can be a problem if 10 and 100 of tents are in a server). That way if the tent owner is killed the tent owner can't just log out to save the tent from being looted.

As for engine wise, maybe it can act like a character, so when you log in, it actually creates another uncontrollable character which spawns with the items it previously had, but again I don't know if this is possible in the ARMA engine.

Small unthought idea, spawn with a tent, can only disconnect from your tent, stops server hopping, and then the tent is also part of your ID not the server

More then likely create more issues, could be something to work from, or not

Meh

I just get a tent and load it with empty whiskey bottles.

I just want the tent to be something actually useful. Any type of tent releated ideas that improve the usage of tents are welcome.

The issues with tents atm are that they are single server bound and sometimes unstable.

There is a plan, for characters to become server bound, removing the issues with tents being server bound. The Stability issue is one that they are working on, and have fixed for some.

I don't think they need any changing.

Tents are great for temporary storrage, just like your backpack. Don't let the things you own, own you.

Tents are useless, it's impossible to protect when offline.

Tents are useless' date=' it's impossible to protect when offline.[/quote']Picking an inconspicous location is a start.

I don't think you'd be able to defend it even if you were online anyway without magical force fields or some other type of silliness.

High risk - high reward.

I don't like the idea of making anything related to a server because I usually play on another server everyday. I don't like to wait to join a server but prefer just joining a server that's not full.

Server-hopping tents are more plausible but this brings a lot of technical problems as there may be another object in your tent's place.

anyone who has had their tent looted is one of the retards that puts them within 100ft of a popular loot location

my team hides our tents and vehicles in the north of the map, and we have never once been looted

No. Make them more rare - fine

Make them disappear when you log off - NO!

Stop making this game easier. It's not easy, its tough, it's hard its arma. Get better in hiding your tents. Just beacuse you are to lazy to walk longer (away from cherno and elektro) and hide your tent the whole game needs to change? No, stop being so selfish. I have 5 tents, no one ever found them.

Best solution would be that the tent remains on the server you pitched it (even when offline) but if you log onto another server it moves to that one. I guess this is difficult/not possible to code though especially if there is an object where your tent wants to be.

yeah i would actually like this. The main problem with the tent right now is that its server sided making it not usable in other servers.

And about server hopping tents, what happens when a player spawns right on top of you? Doesn't the new player's spawn get slightly moved to the side? Same can probably happen for tents. Although yeah I agree it might still be difficult if there was only a small "flat" land where you could place a tent, and two people placed it on the same place. Personally I wouldn't mind if my tent disappears in that situation since its really unlikely.
