(Rocket) Why are we logging in on the coast

Recommended Posts

Fantastic fix and good game design. This will add some much needed legitimacy to the game, while curbing many of the rampant exploiting that was present. Now they just need to add in a 10-30sec logout / alt+f4 timer.

If this game (mod) was in a finished state then this would be a great and much needed feature. As things stand now its down right incomprehensible that anyone thought this would be a good idea at this time.

If any of the following things occur that are beyond my control I have to choose between not playing at all or going to a different server and risk getting whacked on the beach, not to mention spending countless minutes getting back to the location I was already at. And then the next time I play and wish to return to my preferred server I start on the freaking beach again.

1.What if my preferred server is full? Do I just call it a night and hope tomorrow when I log in I can play?

2.Server is down or having difficulties

3.Hackers running rampant- This is the biggest issue hands down.

This is putting the cart before the horse. Get these hackers under control before penalizing players for finding a different server. The other night during about three hours of game play I was on four different servers all due to trying to avoid hackers.

I'm currently waiting on the next patch before I play again.

Patch released yesterday, waiting for the next one to run the game, because too afraid of loosing gear easily findable in any camp.

I'm truly impressed.

Edit: It's even funnier when you realize that next patch will be out in a month,or two, or never even if its scheduled for next week.

Surely hacking is an issue that's up to Battle Eye to fix. Rocket is trying to fix the issues within his own mod. "Ghosting" is an issue no matter how much you try to say it's not. Granted as i stated before, his motives were good but perhaps his execution was not. If you don't like it, go outside.

Walked from NEAF to Berezino, then logged out. Logged in later, coast. HOW IS THAT SERVER HOPPING!?

Where does it say in the patch notes that this is a feature? People seem to be adimant that this is a feature and not a bug.

Personally I cant understand how people are defending this idea, if its meant to be a survival SIM then this doesn't exactly add to emmersion into the game. Honestly if it is a feature then I can't see the point of playing anymore, as I have no aspirations to run for 3 hours, come back the next day and be back where I started. This is just my personal oppinion though, perhaps i'm the only one who feels this way..

Well it seems that this one is for the dedicated server players and not the hoppers. I've logged in and out of one server for the last 12 hours and not been coast spawned once. perhaps its' time to revise one's strategy or is everyone just gonna use that hack argument again and again.

Hacking isn't going to be fixable with the current engine/product, that is a fact unfortunately. This update/change will subtlety improve community and promote team play as well

You're assuming people will stop being hostile to eachother?.. I'm pretty sure that was the intention from day 1 but it whole shouting 'friendly' thing has gone down the sh!tter.. I think all thats going to happen is shoreline snipers are going to have more fun now and get some pro gear from their freshly spawned targets.. Thats.. about.. it..

Again, just my personal oppinion!

If it is indeed a "feature," I'm not a fan of it. I play with 1, sometimes 2, other guys, and finding a server that suits all of us, and that we can all actually load into, is a pain. It can take us a few tries. Server hopping can be an issue, but I don't think this is a suitable fix. It's too heavy-handed.

Don't make such a broad statement like this game is unplayable, it's a mod for starters and this game is unplayable for YOU.

Never play again then and stop posting here, one less person that I don't have to see daily complaining.

Yes, unplayable for "us" and apparently countless other people. I'm sorry if I'm going out on a limb here and stating the most blatantly obvious fucking things around but this is a hilariously bad idea. The proper way to stop server hopping would have been to allow time limits set between each server jump. For the average player, instability in servers is probably why they don't have a "home" server or the fact that they don't abide by a clan or have any reason to stick to one server. The result is a developer implemented change that literally panders to someone who is a troll and hacking, I mean what better way than to harass people than just know where they'll spawn?

Lots of you people bring up that it's a "mod" and I've seen plenty of mods go through their paces before. Mods work on the pretense of working directly with the community, the community feeds information back to the developers and they tend to work with the problems at hand. The difference, the community is negative, vicious and for lack of a better comparison, clueless arm flailing fucking man-children. Yes, it's a mod. A mod with SERIOUS issues that the developer(s) should be working on, which WE should be talking about.

In short, smoke farts.

Someone else said it seems to happen when you close the game at the loading screen, and this happens a lot because 1 in every 3 servers freeze on loading.

If this is indeed a feature, then props for the team for trying to solve a nasty exploitation problem. However, this solution, in my opinion is horrible simply because it punishes those that do not "server hop" to exploit loot or PVP situations.

I know this next example is a bit far fetched, but pertinent none the less. Personally i like my second amendment right which is the, "right of the people to keep and bear arms" and I do not want this right taken away because some other jackasses abuse it and do something stupid.

I like these posts, almost as I like how little the developer interacts with the board and the mods only come out to quell petty arguments.

One problem i run into often is server admins who screw with the game time vs real time settings, so i join a Califonia server in the middle of the afternoon and the darn game is running at 2am and it is pitched black. No i do not wanna fumble my way around in the dark so i instantly look for a new server. If that is reasson enough to make me risk spawning at the coast....I will just stay logged off in till this is fixed since clearly snipers will be drooling at the chance to camp the coastal area now.

I can accept losing my gear, that does not make me want to lose my gear for no reason.

I thought it was reasonable to respawn on the coast? New players who haven't played A2 and haven't been taught MGRS Nav naturally find it hard to get around. The coast has two excellent starting spawns that give new players (and old..) the "Escaped with just the shirt on my back" survival aspect of the game.

Get used to it. Btw, you can swim too - there're a couple of Islands that it pays to investigate, and you won't die from a cough :)

You'll die of boredom from the speed of swimming

@Manta_Avoid - I think you misunderstand, its not respawning after death that people are talking about in this thread...its being warped back to the coast from anywhere on the map simply because they changed servers/lost internet connection or the server they last played on is no longer up. Far as your comment about swimming...umm you do know you lose your backpack and all your gear when you swim, yes?

Read the thread before you post would help.

You understand that we're not respawning on coast having died.. We're logging in from a game where we haven't died and could be anywhere inland - only to find that we've been moved to the coast on our next log in..

Just seemed like you thought we were complaining about DYING then being placed on the coast, which of course is fine.

Yes this does infact happen when quiting at the loading screen, i can confirm that :(

Its really annoying because you have no choice then. Either Wait your whole life in a loading screen or end the process and get teleported

My friend's server does this to me occasionally too, just try logging in again, it never normally fails twice. at least not for me

I think rocket's motives were good though the execution may be a little flawed.

^^This^^

I agree there are many instances where logging out and changing servers doesn't equal "fleeing combat" or "server hopping". But I seriously doubt it was meant that way by the devs. If you take a pause for a second and try to think of the idea and it's implementation, you'll realise it's probably a very difficult balancing act to get the feature to correctly detect "alt-f4-ing" or serverhopping for loot or flanking/sniping. Give people working on this mod some time to work out where things go wrong and right.

I find those "I'm done with this game!" comments so childish and silly. Feels like most of them are meant as some kind of threat as in "Oh, but now you done did it, dude! I ain't ever touching this crap again and you're losing the most important fella playing your game....namely...me!" The old but recently revisited "I'm the center of the universe" syndrome...

Contrary to what some of you seem to think...no one is out to ruin your gaming experience but other players, sons! Least of all the people behind this mod, remember that for once.

Thx

Not confirmed but i think i Figured it out chaps. If you jump onto a 1.7.2.5 server then go onto a 1.7.2.4 server it will spawn you on the coast and vice versa but if you pick one version and just stick with it, it shouldnt happen. give it a try
