Tactical vests and linked inventory space

  1. 1. Do you think this would make a good addition to DayZ?

I know this subject has probably been discussed before, but to my knowledge not in this specific manner.

Keep in mind I'm not suggesting any sort of body armor or anything like that.

Body armor is a completely different topic/issue.

I've read a reasonable amount of posts that are suggesting the stock load-out be changed to represent more of a common man, than a PMC, which I agree with. It is pretty unrealistic to start off with a tactical vest, considering the average citizen does not own these.

Think of this as a system very similar to the already existing backpack size system except for your "immediate inventory" (not sure if there's an actual name for it but I think you understand what I'm trying to say here).

New spawns would start out much like the female player model, in other words, a jacket/shirt that has basic pockets and can hold let's say a lesser amount of items than what is currently the standard, and would retain the coyote patrol pack.

Then once you start hunting around, you would find things such as let's say a larger coat or garment that has a few more pockets, and therefore inventory spaces; until you work your way up to finding a tactical vest that has what is currently available.

I foresee two different types of tactical vest categories, which would be fixed pouch and MOLLE/ALICE/PALS/etc (insert your countries/choice of interchangeable webbing here)

The Fixed tactical vests would obviously have a finite number of pouches which are permanently attached, but would be an upgrade from a standard civilian garment.

Such as these:

The MOLLE/Modular tactical vest would start out with a variation of pouches, much like you find rifles with varying number of magazines. As you go along in your travels, you'd find different pouches that hold different items, and can further expand your immediate inventory space. However this does not come without consequence/limitations. I'd like to see some sort of system that limits how many pouches you can attach (as you'd run out of physical space to place them on) And/or a limitation on the amount of weight you can carry.

For example:

This isnt feasible in the current arma engine but maybe for standalone...

Well I'm not so sure about that. In Arma 2: Operation Arrowhead they added in backpacks which was not in Arma 2.

Just as well, ACE for Arma 2 has a completely different inventory system than any other game/mod running on the engine.

This is a pretty good idea, it would also add flavour to the character models, so people don't get so bored with the same look.

Yeah all for this as well.

Just check out JA2 v1.13 or Brigade E5/7,62 High Calibre's inventory systems for inspiration.

I like the principal of the idea. But my problem with it is that this is specialized military stuff, not the kind of stuff you find laying around in peoples houses post apocalypse. Maybe the idea should be applied to the combinations of civilian bags you can carry like school back packs, laptop cases and shoulder bags. Have the full military gear as rare finds, like if you come across a chopper crash or a dead soldier.

That's a totally different issue all together.

This involves all the items that spawn in DayZ, why do watches, maps, compasses and backpacks spawn in the grocery store? Why do rifles and ammo spawn in the fire station? Why do Israeli bandages intended to cover gunshot wounds and severe lacerations spawn in homes?

It would be extremely frustrating if it was a rare spawn, just as everything else would be if bandages only spawned in hospitals, rifles only spawned on airfields and chopper wrecks, etc.

I'm not disagreeing, I love the idea. I just think that the large majority of carrying equipment we should be dealing with in the game should be civilian more so than military. We should be scrounging through peoples homes looking for jackets with large pockets, cargo pants and childrens backpacks, everyday items that we can improvise with.I think making do with what's on hand to survive is a better game experience than finding specialized military equipment that is perfect for the job.

Then again, this is a standard civilian load out and look what it can hold:

Maybe it's not such a bad idea
