DayZ standalone military overtone?

Recommended Posts

It's quite obvious that DayZ (as it currently stands) has a huge military overtone, and this is most probably largely due to it being A mod on a mil sim. However, now that the game is going standalone, I'm expecting there to be big changes so that people see dayZ as its own game, rather then 'that game based off that mil sim'.

Are we hoping that the game has a big military overtone like the game currently has, or are we hoping that we play as regular people thrown into a world that is mainly civilian orientated, but with a few military elements?

I personally hope the game tries to feel as realistic as possible for the average joe civilian. What I am mainly referring to is the items we find, how we move (animations) etc. I'm happy to still stumble about military bases and what not, but I wanna feel like the average person trying to survive

Having both sounds fine to me. I'm not sure what the military tone is that you speak of. In an apocolypse, weapons mean power.

Edit: If you mean more police stations and gunshops rather than military armories then yeah, I agree. Unless this is still happening in a country like Chern then i'd say military locations would make more sense.

It only makes sense to have a strong military presence as one would expect to happen at an outbreak like this.. And it lends itself pretty well to the gameplay given that there are awesome weapons and vehicles strewn about.

However it would be undeniably cool to have large urbanised areas, maybe even a small city... It has so much potential.

I was mainly referring to aesthetic things. How your character moves, looks, the items you find, the vehicles, where things are placed, etc. I'm also not suggesting to get rid of the military grade equipment of course, but having civilian based objects/vehicles/clothes/weapons/etc much more common and accessible.

Environment wise, yeah, I'm definitely expecting to feel th vibe of a military presence though.

I love dusty weapons and old scratched military weapons. But I absolutely hate advanced military weapons like M4A1 SD, M16A2 M203 etc. Weapons with lots of attachments like holo sights, foregrips, grenade launchers and all useless stuff. They just throw the survival feeling out of the window.

I would love to see less military. I know it's origins are with the milsim and all, but I think it makes more sense, as a zombie thing, to keep it low. I want the zombies to be threatening, and they aren't when you have access to military grade equipment.

Dayz is gear leveling game and so you need top end gear to make this happen.Need to be incentive to keep looking and even killing other players for better gear.Just stay away from NWAF and other military drop zones and you'll be fine.

Less Military the better IMHO, but there still needs to be a military presence and gear. Just less NVGs Rangefinders .50 cals ect ect ect.

Top end gear should be M16, or M24. The way I'd see it, tiers in L4D are very coherent. We could use them and add some real life diversity to end up with something like:

Tiers one:

9 mm handguns / melee weapons

9 mm SMG's (Mac 10, MP5, PPSH for a russian-rustic feeling)

Semi-auto shotguns, up to M870

Hunting rifles

Tiers two:

.45 ACP handguns

The whole AK family, but without any kind of attachment

CZ550

Chainsaw, to be fed with fuel, being very loud to balance it

Tiers three:

M16

M24

Weapons attachment, like a *4 optic, a silencer.

More than that, what would really change the game, would be ammo scarcity. Right now when you find a gun, you'll find at least two clips with it, and two more clips ten meters after. Weapons should be less rare, ammo should way more.

IMO military gear should still be there, I actually like it the way it is know. Maybe the high grade gear could be less common, but the high occurence currently could also have something to do with duping. There should be some kind of endgame and progression in this game that one can achieve, stopping at the CZ550 would not allow that to happen.

This is not L4D, we are free to be our own thing.

I`d also prefer not to have set tiers, they should be freeform as it is in real life, some weapons perform better in X situation, but these weapons do better in Y situation but not X situation.

Just my opinion.

I almost want some military force in the game with npcs guarding a non ghostable fort. Just to see how survivors and bandits try to 1up eachother.

Never going to happen, but hey.
