Turbosquidd 9 Posted August 10, 2012 I think that a good addition to the game would be car keys. At the moment there is no safety mechanism for cars, other then a good hiding place. It would bring in a sense of security for your vehicles and it would make it more of a challenge for people to steal your car and the gear within. They would be needed to unlock cars and drive/ possibly to access the gear stored within.Car Keys would be found in the gear of the car at it's spawn point, the car would be unlocked so that the keys good be lootedA tool could also be added that would allow players to break-into and hot wire cars that they have found, it would make it more interesting when finding another players vehicle as you would either have to look for the player and take the keys, or find the hot-wiring tool and use it on the car.As well as a tool that actually allows the car of the engine to be started, you made need to break in to the car, by either breaking a window, or breaking a door. Both these actions would damage the vehicle parts retrospectively:The windows and the hullPlayers could also leave the keys in the car, and leave it unlocked so that, say, their friends could also use the car whilst they are not playing/there.Overall it would add a sense of security when leaving vehicles as there is no such protection at the moment.

SixTsevN 1 Posted August 23, 2012 I totally agree.I recently found and built a V3S (IN THE DARK) and I am very protective of this mobile camp as it is packed full of goodies.I believe if you found a survivor with car keys on them it would give you a very exciting objective of trying to find the nearby car and the person that lost their keys would have the chance of tracking down the bandit that killed and took the keys and get their vehicle back.I think it would add a fantastic element to the game.I think if hot wiring kits were introduced, they should be extremely rare. I would be so pissed off if someone stole my car, without having the manners to shoot me in the face first.
CerebralZombie (DayZ) 151 Posted August 23, 2012 Players who want this would also want to have the ability to put walls or fencing around their camp with the ability to add a gate/doorway that also uses a key. Also the ability to pick the lock somehow. These ideas would need more elaborating on, but it could all work out.
kingkrabbe.#bof 35 Posted September 8, 2012 I like your suggestions because they also add a little realism to the game. I find it hard to believe that every vehicle in DayZ is parked with the keys in the keyhole and the doors unlocked - permanent. And when I have a vehicle in my posession (in DayZ) I would not let it stay unlocked parked somewhere in the forest if I had the option to lock it. When I just exited to loot or refill the tank I would not lock it but otherwise I would.I think a toolbox should be enough to hot-wire a vehicle. For breaking in / unlocking the vehicle you would only have to damage the window on the drivers side which makes a little noise. There could also be a silent way to break in (like with a short piece of wire) but I think that won't be necessary. And hot-wiring should take an amount of time (like 15 seconds) and make a recognisable sound (like failing ignitions and such)
Bearded McGee 121 Posted September 8, 2012 Say there's keys. What if a player logs out with them?Or if he "drops" them?Alright, have it so the keys need to stay on a player, in-game.If a player logs out with the keys, they go back to the vehicle. They can't be placed in a tent or other storage. If a player is killed, they stay on the body for a set amount of time.Otherwise, make it so breaking into the car damage the hull and a window.Make the toolbox required for hot-wiring or a special tool.

So the player can disconnect with the keys to "his" car, he could drop them, he could loose them, he could give them away or hide them for his friends. The keys would always somehow be connected to the car. If they are lost / not present on the server, the car can only be hot-wired.

If not, it just adds another dimension to hoarding.
nobody 31 Posted September 8, 2012 (edited) It could be cool, but i think in real life i will just brake the window and get in :D.. anyway good idea ! Edited September 8, 2012 by Ladas325
Faceman Peck 93 Posted September 8, 2012 It could be cool, but i think in real life i will just brake the window and get in :D.. anyway good idea !wait wait thats not a bad idea either...like with a crowbar or your elbow or an empty bottle (there should be a chance for injury)...but if we add keys to the game, maybe we should have hotwiring and breaking windows too. I also support this idea and nice one!
