Finite Skills

Recommended Posts

Not every player would have a skill

Weather a player gets a skill is decided, at random, upon character creation

What particular skill a player gets is random.

Skills are finite, a server can only spawn a set/limited number of each skill.

Obviously any skill would be dependent on systems that exist within the game. Here are a few possiblr examples.

Helicopter Pilot: Obviously a pretty rare skill, so perhaps maybe only 1 or 2 players on a 50 slot server would be able to spawn with it.

Mechanic: With a mechanic skill you could increase vehicle numbers but there use would be reliant on finding a mechanic to fix them.*

First Aid: Able to stitch deep cuts and lacerations. Perform blood transfusions.*

Doctor: Able to heal bullet wounds fix broken bones. Another rare skill so you would want to limit it to one or two player's per server, depending on server size.

Fishing: Fish from lakes rivers sea*

Hunting: Gain more meat from animals.*

Construction: Able to build safe and secure structure's. But would be reliant on other to help with building or atleast speed up the process*

*The numbers of each skill per player base would have to tested quite extensively in order to properly balence them out.

Such a system would not limit someone to being a loner. And would not stop murderer's and psychopaths who just want to see the world burn. But it would provide a greater emphasis for people to co-operate or at least make it consideration due to the many possible benefits.

A possible exploit could players constantly spawning and dieing until they get a good skill. This could be combated by say, if a player re-spawns in quick succession they will automatically get no skill. And perhaps give that penalty a 24 hour cool down.

Anyways just a idea thought I'd put out there, see what people think.

Wait, are you saying have only a couple people per server be able to heal broken bones? That really doesn't sound very good to me. Not to mention that if you get picked as say a pilot and then decide to play on a different server, the first server is left without one of its two pilots.

This is a pretty good idea. Although as ESDeadmond said, if someone with a rare skill goes to a different server then it only has one left. A way to fix that is that servers aren't restricted to giving out skills. Instead the hive randomly chooses what skills players get and this way even if both pilots leave a new one can still spawn in, this can still lead to situations like 49 hunters and one doctor on a server, but realistically its not like the professions of survivors would be evenly distributed in a real zombie apocalypse. Also players should get more than one skill depending on the rarity of the skills they get (like one rare one and 1 common or 3 common). People constantly suiciding and re-spawning to get new skills can be fixed by giving the player the same skills they had if they are continuously re-spawning.
