So I'm guessing as of right now

Recommended Posts

A new player who wants to play the game like me should just wait for the stand alone? I was thinking of getting the arma 2 +dlc and dling the mod but if they are going to make a stand alone I guesss I should just wait for that. Does anyone know when it will come out and where it will be available for pirchase? Hopefully it won't cost more then $30 tho.

If anyone could answer these thanks.

It will probably be awhile. No one knows yet. All things point to it being under 30$. Dependent on how patient you are it wont be coming anytime soon. Probably not even 2012. I would atlest wait tell the next big patch coming to make this game playable. Or you can wait on the warz game. Choices.

You could be waiting for a nice little while, buddy. The mod is only in Alpha, it's no where near ready to be ported into stand alone. I'd say you have a possible 1year+ before any realistic expectations of seeing it done.

damn that sucks not sure what to do war z seems to be nothing as of right now since theres no gameplay but I would like to play day z being the inventors of such a cool concept for a game but from what I'm reading the hackers/bugs are a little overblown right now.... or I could wait a long time for a stand alone. choices :|

Don't confuse the OP.

They're trying to get the standalone into Alpha by September at the latest. They'll have the Alpha version of the standalone running on a new engine (probably ArmaIII) while dual-implementing game mechanics on both the mod and the stand-alone running concurrently. So you might as well wait until the Alpha is released and stay tuned. Supposedly the introductory price will be pretty low for the Alpha and that will get you access to the final release (similar to Minecraft).

Some people are unaware of this situation. Others are annoyed that they bought Arma II for the alpha of the mod this close to the stand-alone release and feel that their money has been wasted so they want to trick others into paying for a copy of the game they don't need. And others just want Arma II's numbers up out of loyalty.

Yeah honestly i would advice a new player to stay far away from dayz right now until they can do something about hackers and release the next patch.

September? Too soon. It's gonna be at least late spring 2013 when the alpha for DayZ The Game comes out

Sorry to say but even an alpha in september is a hope and a dream. But we can hope and dream.

No one knows. Everyone is making the best guess they can to answer you questions. Just know that we could all be wrong. (My guess, 20-30 bucks, alpha for standalone out within a month or two with same features currently in game, with additional features and improvements added during development. It'll likely be available for download here or on popular distribution networks.)

Honestly, buy the game now if you and a couple of your friends can afford to host your own server and then whitelist it. I know this is frowned on by the DayZ staff but the hackers are out of control. The only way to keep the community sane is to allow whitelisted private hive servers. The survival aspect of this game is somewhat in shambles at the moment on core hive servers. If you want to take a shot at the game as it currently is I suggest you remember this is only an alpha of a mod and it's plagued with issues. It can still be extremely fun and satisfying if you accept your characters inevitable death at the hands of bugs or hackers.

It's up to you. Honestly you could find a nice private server to play on and have a good time. There are a bunch of private servers that have active admins taking care of the scripters and such. Although the standalone they said they are trying to have the alpha out to the public by the end of this year. I've heard speculation of December.

Are private servers open to anyone or do I need a password of some sorts to join.

They are open to everyone for the most part. Some have other requirements. But a private hive just means they are not on the main hive. Its a seperate character for their server, meaning duping is less rampant and kids cannot log into another server, gear up then hop onto the server. Some have more vehicles, usually side chats enabled to promote a community. Overall they're much better than regular servers. You can look into the private hive part of the forum and read up about them a bit if you prefer.

dude it completely depends on how much $30 means to you, thats the only issue here. If you have 30 to drop without raising an eyebrow, do it. If not, wait for SA

Matt said in an interview that Standalone was most likely / hopefully going to be released in December. Buy Arma 2 CO now and find a good private server. Hoping the private server I constantly play on comes back up soon.

I'd sell you my arma 2 and OAH for 15 if you really wanted to play. too bad i own too many steam games to do that. (no longer playing dayz till standalone, don't want to burn myself out for the full game) However, they said latest December for a release date for alpha multiple times. Though i guess they could change there mind before then. (Matt Lightfoot said December is aimmed for the release date)

They're meant to be releasing it by the end of this year but whether this will actually happen or not remains to be seen. Give it till December, if no definite by then you could by the ARMA games for the mod. The ARMA games themselves are pretty good.

Why not just get both? I really don't understand why people are trying to avoid having to spend money (OMG) on Armed Assault 2. It's an exceptional game, and the multiplayer is amazing anyway. Domination, CTI, Co-ops... It's a good game regardless.

Plus, if you do, you'll get to see DayZ mod as well as DayZ standalone.

I think its because many people who play games are young, and are lacking a steady source of income. They might only be able to buy a couple of games per year out of their own pocket, and therefor they do not want to spend any unless they are 100% they will like the game.
