Playing solo vs. playing with a team.

Recommended Posts

I started out playing this mod solo and had some of the most tense, adrenaline inducing moments I have ever experienced when playing a game. Running round, with no clue where I am going, crawling past zombies, hearing them snarling and praying that they don't see me.

Then there was the sense of elation as you come across a weapon, any weapon, Makarov, Lee Enfield, no matter how poor.

Anyway, I eventually started playing with a group of friends which is still great fun but it feels like a lot of the magic is gone. I rarely get any exciting moments now as survival is so much easier. Sometimes seeing another player can make things interesting. Though I would imagine most players would run a mile when they see 5 of us with ghillie suits carrying the best weapons in the game (I know I would).

I am currently running with an L85, M4A1 CCO SD, M9SD, Ghillie Suit, NVG's, GPS, Range Finder. Basically everything I need. We have a camp with 6 or more tents all full of the best equipment. I see why so many people turn to being bandits or concentrating on PVP once they are this geared up. I personally have only 1 murder in all my time playing. I can't remember the last time I died to a zombie or another player. In fact my last death came due to a glitch in the game.

I have gotten into the habit of using the online maps too which further takes away from the immersion..

So, I am seriously contemplating starting over and playing solo to see if any of the magic comes back. I will not use online maps or any other assistance, only the tools provided by the mod.

There are advantages of playing solo. You do whatever the hell you want, it's harder too, and there's just this one thing.. that 'magic' of DayZ you were talking about. I don't know, but I preffer playing solo even though I play with friends too.

Yep, solo can't be beat really when it comes to pure heart pumping exhilaration. A lot of players find this to unnerving and so they horde gear and take solace in numbers.

That feeling when you creep your way into the supermarket holding your breath to find a gun and a few other bits and then make a mad adrenaline fuelled dash to the woods - 'yes! I made it, I am still alive!!'. That's what the game does best.

Solo on expert servers is always nice.

I've never played with a group. I've only babysat friends.

I agree. Once you have all u want/need Surviving isnt hat hard vs zeds. despite the last patch making more of the zeds spawning. We could do with events or natural calamities. that add terror to the field like floods or earthquake or volcanic eruption or something like that.

Exactly that. It's almost like a totally different game playing solo compared to playing with a group.

Haha I myself find the game more scary when soloing, maybe it is the flux?

Still I think playing in group can be funny and scary if you don't have overpowered gear, only low/mid gear that stretch to AKM/Hunting Rifle/Map/Compass!

I never ought to play at night myself, because you are really vulnerable when preying around with g17 flash and or flares/lamp!

I've grown quite bored of soloing. I either go up north and loot camps or head back down south and get killed by groups of players.

But I don't really want to be a part of a large group either. I just want 1 or 2 more player to team up with.
