Steel bolts and taking them

Recommended Posts

I just recently chanced a crossbow (wanted to for a while but was enjoying the Winny and CZ too much). I LOVE IT! Great weapon, I love stealth in any game and crawling to a zed and dropping 6-7 around a barn before looting it is immensely fun for me :P I love sneaking and stealth in any game I play

What I don't love is the random disappearing of bolts from bodies :( is this intentional? Sometimes they are just *poof* gone. Leaving me defenseless (other than my 9 Makarov mags haha)... Does anyone know a way of getting around this? It seems like it's due to hitting the centre/torso and getting "stuck" under the body.. I tried hiding but it didn't work, it was just gone :/

I did a fair amount of practise in a barn to get the iron sights down pat, and never lost one.

What *would* be great to see would be a system where it's added to the inventory of the dead zed/player. Unless it's intentional, in which case it would be disappointing as it's not very realistic given that's the nature of the mod, but I'd accept it.

So is it a bug, or intentional?

Yeah if the retrieving of crossbow bolts was more reliable i would consider taking one.

Should be able to turn tin cans into makeshift bolts.

Hurrah a use for cans.

This, I like :)

Or just launch cans as is.

I have used the crossbow a bunch and I rather enjoy it. Stealth supermarket raids in towns and reusable for the most part ammo. I do not enjoy searching for 3 minutes looking for a lost bolt in a body or trying to get the perfect angle to retreive it.

When you use the hide body action the bolt stuck to the body will go into the ground with the body and you will never find it.

It does seem that arrows do get lost in the bodies maybe 1 out of 8 times, sometimes they lay on the ground next to them or get stuck in bushes after they kill zeds.

The best part is when Im down to my last bolts and I miss then me and my buddy spend 10 minutes searching the ground for it through the grass lol. Wish the bolts feathers were bright orange and had a little bigger search area for the picking up option.

Wish that the bolts would stack so you could free up more inventory.

This is interesting and kind of goes with my way of thinking. First of all, is it even realistic to be able to retrieve arrows? It doesn't seem like it unless you shot the arrow and it hit nothing but softly came back down onto the ground. With this I provide an alternative. Since it's not realistic to be able to retrieve arrows (just assuming so), arrows should come in stacks of 5-10 or something like that and actually stack in the inventory. When I thought of this I immediately thought of quivers but then realized, how realistic is it to find random quivers hanging around? SO, with that I came up with the idea that you should be able to get leather (from cows) and some sort of string, maybe from certain plants or trees and be able to make a quiver that holds all your arrows so that you can have way more of them and have them take up way less space, this way you follow the reality of not being able to pick up the arrows and it makes the crossbow much more useful. I personally think it's kind of ridiculous that it takes more than 1 arrow to kill something, at the same time it is somewhat realistic I suppose, depending on where you shot. It's only ridiculous because the reload time is painful... So with this quiver idea, that is much less of a problem since arrows would take up such little space.

I would like bolts to be lootable from the corpses that you kill them with, as in through the gear menu.

I saw in the suggestions forum about having a quiver. Could be good if your going to be dedicated to the crossbow if it replaced your pistol slot and arrows filled the pistol mag slots.

In another thread I read something to the effect that head shots are always retrievable, however if it takes 2 shots to the body to put a Z down, the game will always eat one bolt.

Were not talking wooden arrows here, these are solid metal bolts or made of carbonfibre, they dont break all that easily, mostly because they are meant to be reuseable (target practice and the likes).
