Will I see a good gain?

Recommended Posts

Hello guys, so today I decided that I would OC my cpu from 3.4(my initial OC) up to 4.0Ghz. In the towns I got around 23 fps, would I see any major increase at this stage, with the OC I have now. Also please share your fps/clock speeds, so others with similar systems might be able to see what kind of FPS they will get :)

Edit my spec

____________

Gtx 680

i7 950 @ 4.0Ghz

16GB RAM

H100 cooling

Gaming at 1080P (1920x1080)

You should see some improvment, but over all its down to the graphics resolution you play at, system ram and what graphics card you have??

its hard to say also depends on playing res ect. anywho i got a quad core intel 2.70 Ghz stock 4 GB ram and a Raedon HD 6700M at very high textures and most settings high post, AA, and vsync off at 1920 x 1080 i get about 30-60 fps wilderness i just got this computer and havent gone into a major town yet O.o based on my last comp id probly get around 20 we will see ill edit this when i hit a major town XD

but you should see improvment afaik Arma II is CPU hungry rather then say ... crysis 2 which is depent more on the GPU

depends on the game though. I.E. in say metro 2033 your GPU will be used more than the CPU. In Arma 2 (DayZ) it depends more on the cpu, except shadows and HDR which uses the GPU :)

I run an FX-4100 Quad Core 3.4GHz @ 4.2GHz with an overclocked Nvidia 550Ti, 16GB 1600 DDR3 RAM @ 2300MHz.

I get 60-70 fps all the time, though zooming in still rapes my fps unless my graphics are low. Graphics are maxed out everything with post process disabled.

Servers make a difference too... you may get 40+ fps on one server then average ~20 on another...

I have an i7 870 (2.93 Ghz), 8GB RAM and a GTX470 and USUALLY get 30-60+ fps anywhere on the map with most settings on High/Very High.

+1 for the use of GTX 470! They were one of my all time fav gcards! Had 2 in sli not so long ago :D

Yea though usually servers restart before your fps gets to that stage :P or at least the ones I go on :P

OC a i7 is pointless. At this time software cannot keep up with hardware and your trying to squeeze more performance out of a 2 year old game with a close to 1 year or less build. All your going to do at this point is grow your epeen and slowly kill your chip.

I do play more games than DayZ -_-"

Plus I also make videos and it greatly decreases the rendering times. Don't make assumptions.

Hey Genki in the bigger towns my FPS does drop down 30-40 range? Like Ravegreen posted servers seem to be all over the place with the fps, I tend to jump around until I find a good one.

I see, seems about right :) hopefully after these stress tests are done I can jump in and see what it's like!

I know what your saying but it really does depend on rez....

Lower rez higher CPU usage.

Higher rez higher GPU usage.

Also ram plays alot, as windows 7 kills 1.5gb no problem on loading, arma 2 is around 1gb max with dayz!! Then you got overheads anti-v, firewalls, itunes etc!!!

So 4gb will just about make it, 8gb+ really to be safe!!!

From his spec he should have no problems at all!! NONE PERIOD!!! ;)

So if it not running right you fucked up in the driver department and something is hogging your PC!! <_<

Get it checked, reinstall windows if you have to, but your spec you should have no problems at all! :D

Not trying to troll, but why don't you just set the OC and see what happens? Everything else is just idle speculation.

It ran fine before OC -_- just wanted to know if it would help any by OC'ing it up to 4Ghz... So I dont need to reinstall anything xD

6GB is what I myself would recommend for new pc gamers :P so look at this noobs ;)

Low resolutions dont actually impact the at all, or we would see all games going over 300fps :P

I have but you have to stress test for a couple of hours first ;)

You will receive a significant boost in performance. Arma 2 is heavily dependant on the CPU more so then other games. While testing the exact same thing I noticed major improvements in performance when overclocking the CPU but almost no performance when overclocking my GPU (Arma 2 only uses like 70 percent of my GPU's resources anyways lol)

My system

i5 2500k 3.4ghz stock speed (4.8ghz overclock)

8 Gb 1600mhz Ram

GTX 680 2GB

and a 120GB SSD that has windows and arma 2 on it.

My CPU is cooled with a H80 Liquid cooling so I do not recommend overclocking yours that high without similar cooling

I got the H100 today, that's why I OC'ed to 4ghz lol but I cant get higher than 4.4 anyway, since mine isnt a K series :'(

We have a pretty similar setup I guess haha, yea my gtx 680 is like using a 460 it doesn't do anything really lmao
