Please remove "L85A2 AWS"

Recommended Posts

It's interesting to see how everybody believes if you complain about something being overpowered you must have been raped by it. In fact we have 3 L85 on our team and constantly use it to gain an advantage on our opponents that is hilarious if they don't have an L85.

Indeed there are. But these are not the ghillies you are looking for...

I just stated it because someone laught at the fact that Ghillies should or could conceil your heat signatures.

Funny thing is, I do not think that the L85 is "overpowered" even though I play in a squad, have tested it, we already got killed by dudes probably in possesion of them and our Spotter is currently outfitted with an L85. I must be insane!

Maybe you are. Maybe you're not willing or not able to see how the weapon is broken. Maybe your testing didn't actually involve spotting any enemy squads because there haven't been any around. And maybe I am wrong, a giant douchebag and making things up. Seeing you are a squad player with end-game gear you will probably agree that spotting your enemy before he spots you gives you a tremendous advantage. You can easily win a firefight against a squad that wasn't able to spot you before you take out one or two of their dudes. Even with inferior numbers and firepower. The L85 gives an enormous advantage in spotting your enemy. A single player with a L85 can easily overwatch a 360 radius while still spotting any enemy without a L85 before they even have a chance to see him. The L85 makes it hilariously easy to exactly track player movement, count the number of approaching enemies, and all over a great distance. I believe we can agree on all that said. The only difference is that I think a single weapon that gives you a such tremendous advantage over your opponent and makes you win or loose firefights all by itself is not healthy. A single piece of equipment of such a powerlevel, that possesing it or not has such an high influence on the outcome of PVP encounters, is most likely broken and not well balanced.

Oh yes! Of course we should listen and learn from the all-knowing youtube godsquads, because people like sacriel&friends are never wrong.

You might not like high profile squads releasing on YouTube. However, some of those squads, e.g. Sacriel and his squad, belong to the most experienced, well geared and generally strongest squads in the whole game. Even though they won't be always right, also make mistakes and wrong judgement calls, they have a very strong opinion on the L85. It is broken.

And I don't want to argue that another players statement is a weak argument, but on this forum it seems like everyone who makes a point against something, like an overpowered weapon, is disregarded as a noob or should stop crying after getting raped. I think I made my point. I brought up arguments and explanations. I have my own stand on this matter. I do not just rephrase what other people are saying. I hoped showing that not only some random dude on the forums thinks that there is a serious problem with the weapon, but also some very well known and successful competitive PVP players, would help me make my point. I guess though the only thing you get is even more heat.

I like playing competitively and for that reason me and my squad will continue to use the L85, but I also like a healthy competitive environment. I don't think the L85 adds to that healthy environment.

2 long 2 quote.

Your oppinion is very well explained and has some pretty good calls i simply don't have the power of will to write a Wall-Of-Text to counter it.

So ok let it be OP.

The AWM/AWP has been regarded as OP by a shitton of players of CS1.3-CS:S guess what? It was never removed.

The Guidable Rocket Launcher in HL was regarded as OP: never removed

The Spy in TF1/2 regarded as OP. Never removed/fixed

Legendaries in WoW: OP/Still In

and the list goes on and on and on

the day the L85 gets removed permanently over the m107 tws getting re-implemented will be the day I'll stop playing this game.

just my 2 cents

I am not the OP. Just some random dude who chimed in.

The AWM/AWP was never considered broken by competitive players. This is simply false. I have been playing CS competitively and friends of mine still play 1.6 competitively on a high skill level. Nobody ever made a call that the AWM/AWP is broken.

I never played HL or TF competitively, so I cannot say anything about that.

I also played WoW competitively in Burning Crusade, PVE as well as PVP. We had BT on farm, had a couple of Gladiators on our Guild and although we never got a set of Illidan's blades, we had the mainhand on two different characters. One of them being a Gladiator. He never used the weapon in PVP. Only to showoff.

However: all this does not say anything. Even if all of what you say was right, it might just mean that those players complaining about the power level of mechanics on those other games where simply wrong. Or their developers/designers made the wrong judgment calls. Or there actually have been nerfs and you simply missed them. In the end it doesn't matter: failures in other games do not provide an excuse to repeat those fails. I could sum up plenty of examples where game mechanics got called out as broken and where nerfed / fixed / removed from the developers since they agreed. Most of the time with a huge uproar in the community. Because there are always fans of mechanics, especially of broken mechanics. Nobody would cry if the Makarov is removed. Loads of people will cry if you argue to remove something that is actually very strong - if not brokenly strong.

Rare? Bullshit, with all the duping going on, every single fucking tent I come across has at least one in it.

I have said it before, this weapon(at least with this scope) does not belong in DayZ. It BREAKS the balance in PVP encounters, if your squad does not have at least one L85, YOU LOSE. There is no more hiding, no more sneaking, ghillie suit becomes useless, vegetation becomes obsolete.

I have a question for the people who want to keep this gun in the game: Why? Why do you want this gun? You like to argue that it's not OP, that it's a weak weapon. Why do you want to keep it so bad?

@dev0

I was referring to the general "noob" who regards stuff as overpowered for the simple reason of it having mechanics he misses the skill to counter.

I personally regarded you to be a part of those which I strongly apologise for after reading your response.

Still my oppinion on the weapon will always stay the same. If you think it is overpowered you probably don't know yet which assets of your skillset need to be improved in

order to cope with the strengths of it. Since it has no wallhack there are existing counters to thermals a.k.a. hiding behind objects.

There is only one thing that -for me- is a valid point on the weapon being overpowered it has no direct counter mechanic other than itself. Heat signal hiding suits therefore seem

like a really good idea.

@Menny

Why do you want to keep it so bad?

It's unique, has cool optics, feels innovative in a rare way, it's a strong scouting tool, it's authentic since it does exist in real-life.

It's not authetic. The fictional AWS is a hybrid of the current CWS (Common Weapon Sight) and FTS (FIST Thermal Sight) deployed as part of the current BAF FIST (Future Integrated Soldier Technology) programme. It is not currently possible to mount both of these sights on a standard Picatinny L85A2.

Oh, look. This ridiculous thread again.

Allow me to conveniently recall my response to it from the previous discussion.

It is still applicable.

I really don't understand the debate.

If the L85 is a powerful tool for survival, get one. Find one at a helicopter crash or find someone who has one and chew their windpipe out with your teeth and the take the goddamn thing while they choke on their own bloody vomit.

What's the problem?

I don't understand why it's taking so long for you people to come around to the notion that maybe this game isn't meant to be perfectly well-balanced in favor of all possible styles of play, items, load-outs, team configurations, and dietary needs.

Certain combinations of certain weapons are going to confer a strategic advantage over your opponents. Long-ranged weapons will allow you to attack from long range. Camouflage equipment will permit you to camouflage yourself. Vehicles permit travel at rates far greater than foot. And, yes, maybe having someone in your group of friends (you do have friends in the game by now, right? You're not engaging in a discussion about high-end weaponry when you haven't even taken the step of making a couple friends in the game to watch your back, right?) who carries an L85 maybe might be a good goddamn idea. Maybe even required for long term, consistent success?

Maybe that's okay?

Maybe it's not so bad that you need to get off your lazy asses and get the fuck out there and find one if you think it's so important and critical to your success in the game.

"Oh, no. It's really powerful. Better take it out."

Like, okay, if we follow that rationale to it's logical conclusion we're all going to be riding around on fucking unicycles shooting each other with slingshots.

The gun is good.

Okay.

Established.

Now go get it and put it to good use, you whimpering lack-wits.

I think they should add a standard SA80 with SUSAT or ACOG sight and relgate the thermal sight to a standard thermal scope, [works like binoculars]

Is thermal actually as effective in the real world as it is in-game?

I thought it got scattered over longer distances making it more useful for medium range or below.

everyone who used the gun before knows that it's overpowered. don't forget that on many servers there're crosshairs so the whole "it has drawbacks" argument is kind of silly.

on the other hand if you keep moving you shouldn't have a problem being spotted. where it really shines is against snipers hiding under trees with ghillie suits. all you gotta do is scan the tree line and look for a bright spot. sure it's too easy but i really don't mind if i get shot by some guy using thermal or a guy with an enfield. it still feels better than get shot in the back by someone who just logged in behind me.

also people quoting rocket about balance are so silly. sure he said that. but he was talking about PvP not weapon balance. why do you think some weapons are rarer than others? sure if you meet someone with said gun you should better run and hide but it won't happen all the time. so stop acting like rocket just took reality and put it in a mod. the mod is full of decisions influencing gameplay.

Remove it. The difference between having one and not having one is too significant.

an opponent with an L85 is probably the easiest to kill other than unarmed or perhaps pistol toting opponents. it shoots like shit; it has no iron sights and only has an effective range of 300 metres with massive sway on the bullets. yes it makes it easier to see people, but only if they are looking directly at you already. it has benefits for a group, but they aren't outweighed by the impracticality and clunkiness of the gun.

i personally locate players with more ease at night just using NVGs/scopes, day is just as easy..

i think the L85 is shit, but i want it to stay.

obviously duping is a problem, but it's irrelevant here i feel..

Don't be stupid. I think he should either take away thermal or just make it less common. Removing it is to extreme
