Unwillingly getting to play someones elses character?

Recommended Posts

Ok so me and my little brother share the same computer when we play Day Z, we just use different steam accounts. I've been playing for a while and he just recently decided to buy it for his steam account so he would get his own character, cuz i don't let him roam around on mine so i lose all my shit. So he bought Arma 2 CO so he could play his own character but no matter what we do he keeps getting into my character. It doesn't matter if he's logged in on his own steam account or mine, whenever he connect to a server he gets onto my character..

I suppose characters are linked to CD-keys rather than steam accounts? So how do i get him his own character?

Are you sure it's the same character, or is it just using the same account name? Different location/ items? You will need to go to main menu and select the other profile each time if you want the name to also change.

Also how are you launching the game?

Hello there

Just to clarify you have 2 different steam accounts and two seperate versions of A2CO or a variant thereof?

FYI AFAIK you cant share copies or accounts. Everything needs to be separate.

Yes character is linked to the CD-Key of OA. Operation Arrowhead is enough to have separate character. He should run Steam as administrator and then launch the game. Then it should change cd-key to OA registry file.

Both of our steam accounts has a valid copy of Arma 2: Combined operations bought via the steam store. Changing steam-account does nothing. No matter wheter it's my own account or my brothers' it starts us off in the middle of the woods with a Sniper rifle and a M9. I've made 2 unique profiles in the menues as well.

I launch it with -Six updater 2.9.7pre-.

Yeah we each got a steam account. I've been around playing for a month or so, he just bought Arma 2: CO like 20 minutes ago.

I start Day Z via Six Updater though. Is there any way to start it via steam? Starting steam as an admin, logging in and then joining a server with Six Updater doesn't seem to work i'm afraid. :-(

Characters are bound to ck-keys.

What you have to do in order to use 2 different characters on 1 pc is actually pretty simple.

1) Install your entire game, patch it etc, don't for get to run both games seperately as administrator (very important)

2) go to your regedit.exe

3) Go to Bohemia interactive, click on Operation arrowhead, you will see your encrypted cd-key in blue, just right click on OA and press export, then export it f.e. to your desktop with some random name, i chose Key-1

4) Completely uninstall everything, install your brothers copy with his Steam Account and again don't forget to launch both Arma 2 and OA seperately.

5) They key in your OA folder in your regedit should now be a different one, simply export that to your desktop again with a name like "Key-2"

You now simply double click the key you want to use and then launch your game as usual with sixlauncher or per shortcut, doesn't matter, you also don't have to use different steam accounts, infact steam can be turned off in order to play dayz and to change characters.

You can also simply copy your key to an usb stick and therefor hide it from your brother, but when you finished playing you gonna have to click his key so the key changes to his again.
