DayZ on Easy Mode

Recommended Posts

Hey all :)

I've been playing this game for a month now, and I mostly enjoy being a Survivor and play alone (because I dont have friends, lol ). If you are like me, a casual player wanting to enjoy the game and still have a good immersion without most of the frustrations, here's how:

The hardest thing in this game are bandits, or simply other players in general. So to lighten up the game, I choose to play in very low populated servers (min5-10max players filter). Having some players in the server, even very few, makes you be more cautious.

I also play a dusk, I find servers to match my gametime at late evening (9-10pm) and I hop to a -1hour GMT server when it's to dark (I dont have NVG). At dusk you can still see well enough and Zombies tend to see you less. Use name filter to find the good GMT-/+X server.

The key is low population, it lowers risk of hackers, bandits and bands of players wreaking havoc in major cities. It decreases danger significantly.

I've been playing like this for a moment now, I'm all geared up and I'm having fun. I hear gunshots from time to time and even encountered two players that d/c'd when we traded gunshots. I'm always cautious playing the game and wont ever play single player or and empty server.

All in all, It may be a good way to learn and get the feal of the game. You can easily visit hi reward sites with minimum risks, but still having to be cautious because it only takes a bullet and a player to end your fun. ;-)

cheerz

I generally play low pop too. Mainly because it seems like there is a lower chance of hackers. I like looking over my back, and really enjoy getting into tense situations with other players, but the deathmatch247 vibe isn't for me.

I would love a few servers that would allow us to get killed without losing the entire gear, you know, maybe adding some cooldown to log in again.

Not trying to promote The War Z or anything like that, but their idea of hardcore and normal servers is really cool, at least for me.

Their idea of hardcore servers is just like the DayZ servers, you lose your gear when you die. But on the normal servers, you don't lose it, you just have to wait a few hours to be able to play again (i believe 24 hours).

I think a feature like this one will never be implemented but it would be nice for casual gamers like me.

The thing that attracted me, and probably many other players, is the fact that you DO lose all your stuff, is the authenticity of the game. Hardcore/Rogue modes were never for me (Minecraft, Diablo 3, etc) I found them a waste of time, I wondered what's the point in playing a video game that makes your character gone for ever if killed. But this game is different. In Dayz, if you play a survivor, you want to be careful, cautious, make detours and crawl. You want to make it to the airport, alive, I teaches you patience and it's the only game like that, that comes to my mind.

Anyways, sure it would probably attract more players, but it'll also kill a part of what this phenomenal game is acheiving, imo :)

Fixed.

Well, you see, that's the point i'm trying to make. I've been playing for maybe a Month now (since day 1 of steam rebate thingy).

I've played each day since at least a couple of hours a day, and I've never encounter anything that seems like hacking, no weird deaths, no thunderdome. I've been murdered once, and the rest was Zeds killing me. I've been playing in low populated servers (6-10 players) and all was smooth, never heard complains.

Even by looking at the loot on the players you kill you can see the amount of hackers in the game.

Maybe you never saw one in person, but i can assure you their stuff is everywhere, like gears and vehicles that they create (not just the hackers, but dupers/exploiters included).

I lost count of how many players i killed with NVGs, GPSs, rare assault rifles/snipers, range finders, etc.

i've been playing of relatively low population servers as well (typically under 20) and it works out so that there is still the risk of players/bandits killing you but seems to minimize hacker threat. i only had 2 hacking run-ins, 1 thunderdome experience and once fall into a crowd of gun toting crazies. i wouldnt call it easy mode but it does lessen risk

I don't see much hacks in having good gear to be honest... Sure some players might have duped it/scriped it in but assuming that everyone who does have this kind of gear has hacked is kind of... you know... All it takes is a couple crash sites and/or buddies working together + exchanging gear and there you go.

Of course, by avoiding high populated servers your chance of running into an hacker is minimized, but it doesn't remove all the stuff they spawn into the game by using scripts. A few days ago i witnessed someone spawning vehicles and some sort of supply boxes. Damn that's crazy. All that stuff being picked up and saved in tents and vehicles destroys gamebalance even when you are playing at low frequented daytime.

Exactly, it minimizes the risk. But it can help a new player get around more easily.

That's deep, but true.

It's the thing about bringing forth the survival aspects in a human being just by playing this game, that's what makes it so awesome. And.. If you die.. well, you're dead. Nothing to do about it.

Pls no easy mode roket ):

I have been trying to go on low population servers because I hate the deathmatch 'shoot-on-sight' mentality

that IMHO spoils the potential of the game. However, can I ask you lot something about low population servers....

It seems to me that when the server starts, there is a ton of gear spawned. The server becomes full and

the map is raped of it's loot by players. Then people leave the server because of the lack of loot. Later

we see it with just a handful of people on it, join it, and then find it more difficult to get any good gear or

food, since it was already taken when the server was full several hours previous.

Is that reasoning sound?

No, I dont think so. Judging by my experience loot seems to respawn relatively fast. I've never encountered loot problems, on the contrary, I've come upon many rare loots. Just yesterday I found two crashed shoppers and a ATV on the same server some 500m apart. The airfield is always full of very good loot, and I don't come upon many players. Some servers are always deserted or very low on players, but they are legit servers and seem to rely on some general loot rules.

OK, thanks for clarifying. I must have just had a run of bad luck. :emptycan: :emptycan: :emptycan: :emptycan:
