anyway. of course you wouldn't have used Cartesian Co-ords if you're bloody navy and reading nautical maps... not the same as land based maps by any means. you've got no topography at sea for one thing.

again bring in a yet again irrelevant argument. topography on the sea bed is again a moot point as it's not visually available to the eye and is obtainable only be sonar etc. topography on land is viewable to the human eye and is a more valid way of getting your bearing. again a moot point though.

In game GPS reads like real world maps do. You read the horizontal axis first then the vertical axis.

@op: The GPS was found in Russia. It makes sense that it would use the European way, rather then ours. Also I believe Bohemia, the people who made Arma, are from the Czech Republic.

I was looking at my in game gps yesterday, and I came across 5 orange circles nearby, when I hovered the marker over them it said "man", does this mean they were players? I thought that if it was players they must be in a vehicle because they were orange and my buddy's icon was blue? but I'm curious to see if anyone knows exactly what the orange "man" markers are?

Must have been Zombies. As I've never played on servers with nametags (and I'm guessing you only get it there) I can't say for sure, but I've read here on the forums that Z's are tagged as "Man".

It doesn't matter where it was invented. It matters where the model was CREATED. The in game model is found in a Russian country. It makes sense for it to use European coordinates.

Well since its a European company making a game in Europe with a fictional Post-Soviet map it makes sense to me that they would use European methods for reading those maps.

Instead of standards for any other region on the planet.

Also since its a video game and not a real military map and GPS it makes sense that the GPS would read coordinates the same way the map is meant to be read by the people in the region.

It's just extremely tiring seeing people lump everyone from America into this big pool of idiots. Brits are especially guilty of it and it's become a bit of a pet peeve of mine when I see a Brit doing it.

A modern GPS will convert between units and coordinates depending on your position and settings.
