Remove Centralized system

Recommended Posts

I want to play and i want to play fast... i dont want to wait 5 to 10 minutes to connect and then get kicked in 10minutes after start when i am fighting a zombie...

If not remove the centralized system, then at-least make some servers that save data independently and don't share with others.

Some people that agree with me:

will pick a server in the timezone comfortable for them

and stick to it!!! day or night!!! and will not switch back and forth between servers creating delay for others.

This will also allow for players to have several characters (if they chose)... for example on one server a bandit on the other who knows...

They should do SOMETHING about the server issue in terms of delays/unplayability.

The mod started like this, in pre-Alpha. It's definitely not going back.

I hate to be the guy that just screams "ALPHA!" but...

ALPHA!

The server issues are probably going to be resolved eventually.

It's possible to have the persistency be on a server to server basis though. You'd simply have to play on one server all the time. That said, a system like that offers the dev very little control and pretty much opens the entire mod up for hacks and exploits. So no thanks, if you don't want to be annoyed then don't play the alpha version...

Just because the scaling doesnt work that well right now does not mean its a bad system. They just need a couple more servers and good load balancing.

I think the hybrid system (character data central, gameservers decentral) is pretty genius.

Alpha Testing isn't your thing if you get upset over the occasional 5-10 minute wait.

Come back in a few months.

Centralized system = persistence. No persistence, no point in mod.

Correct me if i'm wrong.

You could just run a database on each server, that way everything would still be saved and such if you logout but you wouldn't be able to switch between servers freely. Kinda like WoW and other traditional MMO's ... but then there'd be nothing stopping server admins from completely messing with said database and there'd be no way for the dev to check anything.

I made a post about Dayz server topology that would in theory increase efficiency and preserve persistence. Apparently it's something the Dev's have been working on. This is a dupe post.

The system is slow and less than perfect because the game is

a) in alpha

b) low-budget
