omgwtfbbq (DayZ) 1069 Posted August 6, 2012 (edited) THIS GAME REQUIRES LARGE AMOUNTS OF PATIENCE.Made that nice and big for you. Who cares if I call it a game. It's good enough of a mod to be referred to as one. This is a mod for a game that already requires large amounts of patience. This isn't Call of Duty, where you are thrown into battle, and all firefights are over in five or ten seconds. Skirmishes take several minutes. As for DayZ, if you haven't noticed, there is a lot of walking in this game. Therefore, to survive, you must travel long distances, some of which take twenty minutes to a half hour to complete. You are all lucky that we don't have stamina, otherwise it would take even longer.Aside from the miles and miles we have to travel, zombies also throw in another thing that requires patience. If you go to loot a town, you have three options. Sneak, Rambo, or Exploit. Rambo means running into towns, going to where you want, then shooting all the zombies that follow you. Exploit means run into town, then use the two-door-building exploit on them. Sneak is my method, and I feel that it is the safest and provides the most profit. This requires you to move into town very slowly, crawling most of the way, and alerting as few zombies as possible. I have now reached one month on my current life, and by using this method, I have only alerted ~20 zombies. The Sneak method also provides you with the most ammo upon exit, if you don't alert any zombies. Sneaking also reduces the amount of attention you receive from other players, as most don't see you. It will take far longer, but it assures the most gain.TL;DR: Stop saying that the game should be more fast paced. If you want to enjoy DayZ, then start building patience. You will survive for much longer if you have this kind of patience. Stop running into town, using the exploit on the zombies, then complaining about how easily zombies are aggro'd. K? K. TheWalkingDude (DayZ) 8 Posted August 6, 2012 Patience indeed, so you can muster up the interest to try again after being spawned into a death trap because ARMA2 doesn't give a shit if clients run a script that influences everyone on a server.

corruptshadow 4 Posted August 6, 2012 So you have lived for a month? good for you but I bet I have played the game 20x more then you have in that same period of time.It takes you what 2 hours to get into a town and then back out again? Takes me all of 5 minutes I get same amount of loot as you and dont waste all of my ammo either.Do I run into players more often this way? Hell yes I do but that player interaction for me is what makes the game more fun. Is he gonna kill me or not is he friendly or not some of the most intense and epic moments in game have come from firefights with people or groups of people. You guys who "sneak" and avoid all contact with anyone are missing out on a big part of the game imo. Also I laugh at all the guys who "sneak" into town crawling through the grass thinking nobody sees you. I have so much fun throwing bottles and cans at you guys and watching you freak out lol.Anyways to each his own right?
Zymi 64 Posted August 6, 2012 I think it caters alright for both parties. Running into Cherno/Elektro/NWAF will make it a fast paced game but ut won't last long. To play it as a survival game it's a slower style of play.

PvP is not the focus of survival games. Survival is. Yes, the two can overlap, but I intend to live as long as possible when I am playing this game.

Momiji 46 Posted August 6, 2012 Curious how the two door buildings are an exploit, i don't really consider it to be one. To each their own anyway, i just run through towns, i know what i want before i go in, get it as fast as possible and then leave.Sneaking has gotten me killed more often in my experience, me going at a snails pace makes for a great target for snipers. Unless you don't go into high value places at all and hit small towns only.Ammo isn't a problem really, Makarov as a zombie killing gun is plentiful enough, considering zombies drop mags for it on occasion.I'll go slow if a player is around, otherwise i just go fast, less time in a town the better i guess for my playstyle. Beauty of DayZ you play how you like, rushing works for me rather than sneaking. Not that i don't have patience, i just choose when patience is required.I'd call disconnecting to despawn zombies an exploit, walking through a building just doesn't seem like one to me. corruptshadow 4 Posted August 6, 2012 It is a survival game true but games are meant to be fun, anyone can survive forever out in the woods but where is the challenge where is the fun? When I play like I do im not trying to die I guess you could say im just trying to ramp up the difficulty a bit.

It is an error in DayZ. Some scripting error. They're supposed to run inside. People quickly abused this. Edited August 6, 2012 by omgwtfbbq

People quickly abused this.I personally like how they slow down in a building. Otherwise they need new AI. As the zombie AI is, its horrible, animation is horrible and I am looking forward to future zombie updates. They still seem to kill me sometimes though. :P
ZenBC 35 Posted August 6, 2012 I think the zombies inside are just not pathed yet so they walk instead of run. It's actually a feature IMO. It means that you can actually lose zombies instead of just having to kill one everytime they spawn. If they could run inside buildings, I'd want doors to at least slow them down instead of them just opening them and running at you. Need to be able to put a little space between you and the zombies somehow.Back on OP topic, yes I completely agree - it's a game of patience. I've spent 20 hours in game so far, going in and out of cities and I've died only twice to enemy fire, and never to zombies. Taking the time to look into cities, scoping them out and looking at the treelines around for 10 or 15 minutes pays off. That said - I've only had to kill two people as well since I can avoid most of the heavily armed ones...
