  1. I meant people wouldn't waste ammo on zombies because there's no ammo to waste - so zombies actually become more dangerous because to kill them you either waste precious ammo or have to get up close to them...
  2. Just throwing some things out there off the top of my head: 1. Weapons plentiful - Lots of standard M16s around (government came in, military personel everywhere). Ammo RARE (they killed as many zombies as they could but still died)... Make the ammo spawn as 0.01% instead. End result? Tons of people using melee weapons, and pulling out the guns only for PvP. Makes zombies more dangerous... Plus - everyone walking around with a weapon but do you shoot them or not? Maybe they don't even have ammo... 2. FM Radios and also - FM TRANSMITTERS. Would be awesome if there were radio towers around that you could hook into and broadcast radio signals from - community radio stations? Or misleading traps being broadcast over the radio... Safe zones broadcasting warnings or such things. Also - radio relays which work for everyone, but you can blow them up or take away their power source/etc to deny communications to an enemy/anybody in the area. EDIT: How cool would a community radio station be where you could record say a maximum 1 hours loop that you can transmit (so you can upload a message/news feed/music)... 3. ARMA2 ACRE style communications using mostly unencrypted chatter over finite distances (think UHF 40ch radios, some radios with 500mW energy, rarer ones with 5mW, etc. Encrypted radios extremely extremely rare (0.001% ish). Means squads far away from each other can't communicate unless they have a command type radio or a vehicle radio, close together they can communicate unless they're in a valley or behind a hill or something. Check out the ShackTac whisper/yell mod they use with this too. A player nearby you can hear you talking (like direct chat) but if you yell, they can hear you further away - or if you whisper they can only hear you very close up... 4. Strongholds. So for example - if you secure a selected area or clear zombies out of a certain building and you have the items to fortify it - you can choose to spawn in an NPC when you logout to protect it. NPCs only RETURN fire at normal players or heroes, but auto-fire at bandits within range. So you can have a building that you logout of with four friends, and the NPCs will attempt to defend it. When you log in, you replace the NPC, or if the NPC died, you log back in the same place but don't get a new NPC spawn ability for 24 hours... Makes for ad-hoc bases and means no city will be completely safe ever, even if you're the only one on the server. Needs to be tested - maybe you can create a group of people by their individual names/Hive ID so that your NPC doesn't fire on other friendlies in the area or other friendly NPCs? Conditions for spawning the NPC might be - Your NPC hasn't died in the last 24 hours. - You're in a 'group' (make sure you can't just log out randomly somewhere and leave your NPCs everywhere) - You have created a 'stronghold' of sorts (some kind of barricades on special doors/windows in the building) and the NPC can ONLY spawn inside there. - Your NPC uses the same weapons you have whether that's a pistol or a SAW. - Ammo used by NPCs is counted against your usage so you probably want to create strongholds in less frequented areas (or maybe Ammo is NOT counted against your usage to encourage people to use their NPCs. 5. ACE2 type physics for snipers. Given accurate windage, plus very scarce ammo, people are much less likely to sit on a hill and snipe into Cherno/Elektro. Firstly, they probably won't score a kill. Secondly, given the scarcity of ammo, they might want to save their ammo on targets with more ammo or with valuable items (bandits, players with custom skins/hats that you pickup after playing a while, etc). With this, add in a wind/drop calculator like in ACE, but make it that it needs a battery. It runs out of juice (just like a car) and they'll need batteries to power it. 6. BATTERIES. NV needs batteries. Batteries are almost as rare as NV so you only use NVGs some of the time - like when scanning a field to see if it's safe to cross as night or when stalking an enemy. 7. Separate scopes from the weapons. AIM sights, holo sights, ACOG sights, NV sights - each require a backpack slot. But they work on the weapons they're designed for and any of those. If you find an M4 with a sight, take the sight, leave the M4, put the sight on your M14 instead, or your M16 instead. 8. Vehicles plentiful, gas rare. 9. Custom clothes you can pickup. If you can pickup like a bulletproof vest for example, it might give you a little more protection from 9mm bullets to the chest. But it also marks you to everyone as a player who's probably geared up and potentially a good kill for loot. So finding it is good, but wearing it might not work out so well for you. Maybe people will leave it in their pack until they start PvP-ing. 10. I44 style hand movements. Would be cool if you could signal people in a squad with just a few hand movements (3 or 4 easy to use ones with obvious meanings...) - halt - pointing in direction (indicate where another player or object is quite easily) - get down! People could use these instead of direct chat or radio chat so that enemies close can't hear them. 11. IEDs! Wouldn't it be awesome if you could slowly over time become a bomb maker? Every time you make an IED there's the chance it might injure you but eventually you get skilled at them the more kills you get. Players in vehicles need to watch out for IEDs on the roadside - max damage might be to take out the wheels of a vehicle (not destroy it completely) but its enough to stage a pretty effective ambush! EDIT: 12. I don't necessarily agree with russian weapons - I think you can leave the weapons pretty much the same as they are. Just make it so you need batteries for NV, add in Wind and Auto-ranging (means you need a range computer for snipers), very small amounts of ammo - snipers won't engage unless it's a sure kill and they're GOOD. And they won't engage unless it's very profitable for them - no point shooting into Cherno because it's too dangerous to reach the body of the dead guy - only good for target practice but with scarce ammo, who can afford to do that? I'll have to think of some more... EDIT: 13. Shoot out of CARS!! Crazy inaccuracy (can't hit the broad side of a barn), but at least you can return fire out the window instead of being a sitting duck driving away. Plus the car chases would become more interesting. EDIT: 14. Ability to mod vehicles - perhaps you can pickup a M249, plus some scrap metal and if you are someone good with your hands (you've crafted a few things in the past) you can create a in vehicle mount! M249 mounted to the passenger seat of a car - removes the windscreen (you get RAINED ON/visibility goes down in bad conditions) but you can shoot out the front. Ability to put similar mounts on the side windows/back windows so you can temporarily mount weapons for better aiming while driving. EDIT: 15. DEPLOY against objects. So even without bipod, you can brace the weapon on a car/wall/window sill/table - and reduce recoil. Effects compound if the weapon is fitted with a bipod (but a bipod takes longer to deploy/undeploy). So now you can get out of a car under fire, and deploy against the car, reducing your visibility to the enemy while also reducing your recoil. EDIT: 16: Specialisation. Each new life, your previous specialisation gets erased. You can level up every skill to like 4 out of 10, but to increase past that you have to choose just one specialty. You can increase your skill by reading books you find on your chosen topic or performing actions in your chosen field. Off the top of my head I'm thinking: - Mechanic (create vehicle mounts, repair vehicles, mod vehicles, etc) - Builder (create more elaborate bunkers, concrete fortifications as opposed to sandbag/wood fortifications) - Medic (can heal faster/better/using less supplies and at the top levels, can revive 'dead' players up to 5 minutes after they die) - Weapons Smith (can convert Armour Piercing to Hollow Point, can clean/fix weapons/make them more accurate/clean them/etc) - Explosives Expert (can create IEDs, convert RPGs to Satchels, convert Satchels to blasting charges for digging out underground bases much faster) - Survivalist (can scavenge roots for food, ground water for water, create ad-hoc camo shelters in the woods, ad-hoc bandages, booby traps [think Predator style]) - Weapons Expert (only class that knows how to operate a sniper rifle [just make it so only this class can hold breath when looking down sight, use range computer/etc]) The idea behind specialisations is that someone can theoretically setup a shop somewhere and people might need their expertise in one of these areas to help them. This would discourage them from killing these people cause if they die they can't help them in the future either cause it takes time to level up. In a squad you can have a bunch of people, each of them specialising and working together to help each other. EDIT: 17: SEASONS. A very fast seasonal shift, perhaps every 2 to 3 days the season changes from - Summer (liquids required more often, body armour/heavy clothing causes fatigue much faster and dehydrates much faster, hats slightly decrease liquid requirements) - Autumn/Spring (Nothing in particular needed, can wear body armour without adverse effects, liquids go down as normal. Just don't wear winter Jackets.) - Winter (SNOW!!! Heavy Jackets required and when you stop for an extended period of time you need heat packs [lot more than normal] or a fire nearby. Walking in snow makes that crunch-crunch sound. Heavy jackets come in a bunch of colours [bright colours] with a very rare amount being in camo or white). EDIT: 18. LIGHTS. Would be cool if you could create a power source: - Solar (silent power but only works at night in conjunction with large batteries and very low power output) - Diesel Generator (loud, works anytime, more plentiful, heavy to carry, high power output, requires diesel) Lights could be used inside bunkers to light it at all times (being underground you need lights to see properly without vent shafts). Lights could be used in 'safe zones' in conjunction with large floodlights to light up city areas at night time or 'safe areas' at night time, or electric fences at all times (try to cut through one, get knocked out)...

Global ban transfered out of DayZ?

Hackers are just people who have very little consideration for the feelings and thoughts of those around them. They're the sort of people who would step on people to get to the top rather than collaborate or innovate. Hacking in a multiplayer environment I think says a lot about who you are as a person. If you choose to cheat in a game which affects other people, you're probably the guy who fired other people so you could get a raise. Funny though - most of the billionaires and truly successful and fulfilled people in the world collaborate/innovate and are considerate to other's feelings and opinions - that's why they're at the top. They don't necessarily care about those opinions - but they listen and go out of their way not to deliberately step on people's toes for fun and/or profit.
  4. Yeah I'd say I've been killed only once or maybe twice legitimately - the rest are hackers. Another hacker story - me and two friends are fixing up a ural. It's a new spawn so we've spent the best part of 4 hours running to and from Skalisty and NWAF industrial spawns in the early hours of the morning . Low pop server, maybe 12 ppl. We get the car working when all of a sudden - server restarts. Greeeat. So we log back in and the car is missing on tyre again. Find it but it takes us a good hour to do so (unlucky spawns) - 10m from the ural when everyone is teleported to the NWAF and dropped from height to our deaths. One of our guys logs out, me and another guy stay and try to run back to the ural. 5 minutes later? Same thing happens! Except for whatever reason, the hacker didn't drop us high enough and a lot of people survive but pass out, broken legs and such. I come to, look around - everyone who died the first time, their bodies are still there. I crawl around find morphine and an M249. I use the M249 and kill the apparent hacker - the only guy standing with hacked in weapons. He leaves he server (yay!!) but now there's 10 people crawling around looting high end gear. Me and my friend are looting and really nervous - in the middle of the NW Airfield! When suddenly he says: "uhhh... I think it's OK" "How do you know?" "We're the only ones in the server...' Sure enough everyone else had just logged out and left the two of us there. Came out of that one with L85s (plural), M4SD, M9SD, NVG, Rangefinder, AS50s, FN Fal, DMR - almost every high end weapon in the game right there on the dead bodies of those poor other people. Picked it up, ran to a safe spot and logged out. We thought it sucked at first after 5 hours trying to fix a car being hacked and killed - but after that loot haul it turned out the cloud had a very nice silver lining.

My First encounter with a Hacker

Hackers are usually really terrible shots in my experience. They hack because they suck and don't understand that it takes some time to get good at something. People who are good at a game rarely hack I think - if they're already good at it, there's no need to... Dying to a hacker in this game is what made me stop playing - dying to another player fairly is one thing. Dying to a guy who teleports to you in the middle of nowhere and kills you? Different thing altogether.
  6. you're a dick for using TWS and G36SD. Firstly, if I see someone with that gear, I shoot on sight - I won't even approach you. Secondly, if the admin sees those weapons in your hot fingers in the logs, you risk being banned from that server. If you find a crate like that - you know what, go ahead and take what you want. But I would suggest only taking weapons that are in the game...

    Why the radio silence?!?

I would settle for removing all the military bodies to prevent graphical glitches (they're just cosmetic), a hive total reset, tents and vehicle saving being fixed - that would really change a lot of the game!!
  8. I'm in Berezino on a nighttime raid for some food and medical supplies - about 2am, I kitted out with NVGs, Ghille (saved my life) M14 and silenced M9... I'm careful, but I'm crouch walking between buildings when first one, then two then three people come around a corner. I'm in the middle of the open gravel area in the lumber mill - it's dark but the moon's out. They don't have NVGs (also saved me) but it only takes them a couple of seconds to see me - I think out of shock I freeze and wait to see what happens. They open fire first with AKs and M4s - terrible shots but I guess the muzzle flash puts them off. I fire a few shots their way while legging it round the corner - run through the school and out the back under a tree in some grass prone. So these three proceed to round the side of the school not 10 meters away, carefully looking for me. Keep coming past me and once they're past me I crouch, pop all three in the back - or at least try. I'm shaking so much my aim is off and I only get two of them - I'm not sure if I get the third. I prone once again as zombies come around towards me - but the last guy is spraying his AK everywhere towards me, dirt spitting up around my general area. He attracts all the zombies to him and he goes down. I pop up and shoot another mag into his direction as he goes down and finally dies. I go prone again, using my M9SD to kill the remaining zombies around me. Somehow, none of them had hit me at all - I've lost a few thousand blood to zombies but that's all. I check their bodies but they don't have anything I want apart from a few stray DMR mags I guess they picked up along the way. I hide their bodies and run to a nearby hill. My hands are shaking so much I have to log and recover for a while... This is the DayZ I love! My next best was with a hacker. Berezino is quiet, ghost town. About 1km away, in the middle of three fir trees very close together, I'm prone, checking out the lie of the land, looking for zombies and telltale signs of enemy players. DMR and M14 M9SD, Ghille - it's the late afternoon. I take a quick break from the computer to get a drink and come back, put my headphones on and sit down - only to hear a ruslting sound. I'm thinking "Is that someone moving next to me or the trees moving in the wind? Or maybe it's an animal!" I'm confident nobody could have found me simply because it's impossible to see me in a ghille in the middle of those three big trees, lying prone. I change to 3DP, looking around - and directly to my characters right, I see a gun muzzle and a sight - NOT MINE. I jump up out of the bush and empty a full M14 mag into the guy - 20 rounds into his head and chest at point blank range. He dies after the first few rounds but I'm freaking out. I pause to check the surrounding area, then start to loot his body. What do I see? - M240 SCOPED - CAR HORN Tons of other hacked gear but these are the two that I see first and get my interest. My guess is that this guy teleports to players, hits the horn to freak them out and then kills them. Only - he teleported to me and couldn't find me. He knew I was in there but he couldn't see me! I grab his GPS and immediately ALT+F4 - only just in time too. The last thing I see as I'm reaching for ALT+F4 is the kill feed rapidly spamming tons of names - I got out just in time!

    Why the radio silence?!?

From Rocket's Twitter: " I'm going to make a decision today whether to release a hotfix (1.7.2.6) or wait and release 1.7.3. If the hotfix, then very soon " About 3 minutes ago. I really hope he chooses 1.7.2.6

    Under 100K active players

People don't stop playing DayZ to play something else exclusively. People stop playing DayZ because there's too many hackers, too many bugs, everyone with a duped/hacked AS50 - it's just become a much slower version of CoD in it's current form. Once standalone comes out, I think you'll find a lot more people playing again - that is if they solve the bugs/majority of the hacks/duping...

    Hiding bodies a Dick move?

I always hide the bodies if they have high tier gear. Once I'm done with them I figure I'll do my bit to get rid of those weapons out of the game...

    Best/worst death?

Best: Killed by hacker teleporting next to me and shooting me and 3 friends while invisible. Worst: Insta-killed by hacker. I think I've died once in this game legitimately out of 10 or 15 deaths...

    PLaying DayZ on a Mac

Everytime someone mentions that I paid too much for my Mac, I go ahead and look at my wallet full of hundreds and laugh right back too ;-) Though some people have legitimate reasons for a Mac. I have early 2011 MBP with 8GB RAM, 2.3ghz i7 quadcore, ATI6750M - I'm lucky to get 20 to 30fps depending on the server and depending on the day. I usually run a lower scale variant of my default res (1920x1200) although the difference in FPS is only 5 to 10 between 1920x1200 and 1280x800... My bootcamp has nothing on it but Arma2, BF3, TeamSpeak (no other programs whatsoever apart from basic install and dependant apps). I also changed my graphics drivers from the default Mac Bootcamp ones (which I find are total garbage). 2009 MBP might be enough but I'm not sure - might want to get a gaming setup for a few hundred - like others have mentioned, it probably will work better.
  14. Lol. Yes I do know what an alpha is. And yes, you can sandbox the shit out of this game. On a totally different note, it's people like you that give me a lot of work to do - thank you! People who don't read people properly and make assumptions based out of their own personal expectations instead of reality mean that people who do read things properly and understand things in their actual context get paid lots to fix your messes :-)
  15. I think a more accurate version of this poll would say "Do you have access to a .50?" . I know the locations of several camps across many servers where I can pick up AS50s or L85s anytime I want - but I don't like the AS50 as much as the DMR (I usually play at night).
