How to aid in stopping KoS!

Recommended Posts

i made a suggestion of my own to encourage PvP in a simple, non-intrusive way.

it doesn't change the mechanics of the game too much, but makes it easier for fresh spawns (survivors and bandits alike) to group up before taking on the world.

my suggestion also gives "hardcore" survivors the option to hunt bandits.

I'm playing this mod to try my best not to have to kill others.

Ofcourse I'm alone, paranoid and holding a gun, but I wont kill without a reason.

Reason could be your can of beans if I'm desperate enough.

If I'm met by a player I will make sure for him that wrong move can be the end of him.

I dont mind if someone kills me, it just means I failed, and have to try harder the next time

My goal is to survive as long as possible without having to end anyones life.

If I want to run aimlessly and shoot everything that moves, I might go play battlefield 3.

wow if you dont have anything constructive to say stfu and go away please

It was constructive answer, idea you say yes was only another reason why someone feel better because kick in ass your hard work.

Where you see that people need encourage to PvP? This game is already lame deadmatch. Should be way to encorage to behave more good and supportive to strangers. Because now is just more simple to shoot someone down before he say something, or shoot you in back. Every action should have consequence in such world, something what simulate morality. Now its just "why not" and shoot in back someone for bigger backpack and dont cooperating to gather more stuff together and safer.

Part of the fun of dayz is the trust no one scene. Most players who are decked out will not risk the other playing shooting them in the back so they simply shoot first. People who want a skin or name tag for bandits are mostly softcore noobs who are to trigger stingy.

There will always be people that love to shit on someone else and perma death allows a great oppertunity for this, so people will always be doing it and because perma death also makes people butt hurt their will always be people complaining that others only want to shit on their day when their actions could be for a multitude of reasons.

So... This isn't changing with or without skills

The reason people shoot on sight is because:

1. It's not worth the risk of dying.

2. There is incentive.

Why isn't there an incentive to cooperate? Doesn't it seem kind of unfair that the incentive to kill someone for their loot isn't countered by some other thought process? Like "Hey if I cooperate with this player than ____ will happen. The easy argument for bandit players is "Oh well that's not REALISTIC". Well sorry to lay it to you bandits, but a zombie survival apocalypse game isn't either. I'm not saying take PvP out, hell no, but what I am saying is that if there was some sort of incentive to team up with a stranger that was as equal as killing/looting him, then we have something here. A decision that would be hard to make. Wouldn't that be more "REALISTIC"?

Softcore noobs? Really? The noobs you talk about are the people looking for an adventure. Just because someone likes to play the game different than you doesn't make them "softcore noobs". And before you say that they are the ones complaining about it, read my post above, and realize that most bandits complain about people complaining.

I think the best way to stop KoS is to not KoS yourself. Me and my friend found a small server with only about 5-10 people on it. It appears that most who play there do so with the intention of avoiding other players. I ran into a total of 3 people yesterday, all armed. (And I was armed) We simply identified when we got near eachother, then moved along without any issues. It was so pleasent seeing as how 95% of people usually try to murder me the instant they smell my aftershave.

The issue is attitude. Game balancing and changes could help some as well, but the main thing is attitude.

Unless you're playing a bandit, don't KoS. If more people slowly start doing this, we can reverse this rut we are stuck in. Eventually only the bandits will KoS again and most survivors can function without murdering everyone they see...

Agree 100% people complain about KOS but also do it, I know there are a million reasons to KOS but if you don't want to operate like that then don't, live the way you want everyone else to, set the example.

The only problem I have with KoS is the lack of repercussion for your actions. What I mean is I can normally kill somebody in a city or small town and have no problem at all escaping the zombies near me. I think if you fire off a round in a large town or Cherno/Electro you better already have an idea on how you are getting out, because the zombie horde is going to descend on you from all directions. Right now you might aggro a couple, you sprint around or through a building, and that's it crisis averted. You can now go back and loot the body if you have yet to do so. I think by scaling the difficult of PvE in major scavenging areas to the point where people truly need to worry about both zombies and other survivors when they fire their gun you could see less instances of people instantly killing one another for fear of dying seconds later by zombies. Right now the only thing that stops me from KoS is the fear of alerting other survivors.

That's purely speculation on my part though, it might not have any effect on KoS at all. And honestly a major part of the appeal of the game is surviving the other players. So I wouldn't want to see any fundamental differences implemented to that aspect of the game by say including bandit skins or indicators.

@gorillahands4

I think you have a good point about the aggro in major areas, I think this mostly effected with glitchy Z's and messed up aggro mechanics though. The AI for Z's is so different from what ARMA is made to handle that I think alot of the issues come from that.

The tension of meeting someone in a house/bar and both of you not shooting for fear of the horde would be sweet, but I imagine it would simply result in players gett'n out their hatchets and butchering each other...

Ok im not saying this is a fix but on nametag servers. We might as well have a (survivor) or (bandit) by there name. And a leaderboard would be cool/helpful imo. Just having zombies be on the leaderboard doesnt bring into account the other side of the game, being a bandit.

The PURPOSE of this mod is not to socialize. the PURPOSE of the mod is to make you feel a wide range of emotions centered around anger

http://dayzmod.com/f...t__20#entry6115

You can't have a "wide range of real human emotions" and "rich stories" without socializing.

And right now, DayZ is grossly lacking in both. 1-2 weeks of playing is enough to realize that it's just as bland and shallow as any other deathmatch game out there.

It's broken, and the only way to fix it is to put an end to all the kiddie KoS bullshit.
