People who run around helping strangers are naive...

Recommended Posts

To those of you that run about giving away free medical supplies, food, etc... I do not understand your logic. What good do you think you are doing?

Have you ever heard of the phrase "The best way to help someone is to teach them to help themselves." ??

In DayZ world this is extremely true. By giving away these freebies you are essentially robbing people of the experience of DayZ, the chance to learn something! To do this is actually callous and cruel. What do you think that person will do when you have no beans left to give them? They will starve, because they have not learned how to collect their own. What will happen when it's time to shoot and you're not around to fire for them? They will miss and be eaten by zombies.

By also helping one person, but not all, you essentially decide to save one while killing another... This is insane. And for every one person you save, there will be one hundred put down in the scope of a rifle. Your efforts are futile.

All you do is put yourself at risk. The man you arm will put a bullet in your teeth. The one you heal will steal your medicine when you need it most. The one you feed will expect more, and when you do not give it to him he will feed you to the zeds.

So why?

Well, i've been shot many times now, only surviving once. Each time I turned to the side or com'd 'friendly' and that person would shoot me anyway. To most of you that replied to the douche that started this thread about helping people by killing them (really? how have you survived IRL?), thx for showing me that there are actually GOOD people in game. Yes, the game is about survival. Yes, you will die every now and then. Yes, some people consider this a deathmatch game. But I see that a lot of people have good morals. Thx for showing up and making yourself known. Maybe the real zombie apocolypse won't be so dog-eat-dog after all :)

Actually we're just not so cynical. No one has fired at me. No one has stolen from me. Why would they, if they need something they can ask me for it. I'm well geared and they have plenty of opportunities to get good loot by murdering me, but they don't, because they're not arseholes. They probably shoot anyone else on sight because they've grown used to running into people like you but they know they can trust us.

I like to think we're showing that not every person in the wasteland will murder you on sight, and hoping that people will be a bit less cynical when they learn this. Not everyone's a dick. I'd like to see the old trend return where we would talk to everyone you see, instead of shooting everyone you see.

We aren't taking away their learning. If they go to NWAF and get set upon and we come and help them they've still learned that NWAF is a dangerous place to be. They've just not had to lose their character to learn this lesson. They get to play on and hopefully they will pay it forward and help others in need.

Hunt the medics if you wish. Being that much of an arsehole might just inspire the other good players to form vigilante groups to stand up to the chaotic pricks. Keep in mind though, my MK48 and my AS50 love tearing holes in skulls when they have to, I'm sure the other medics feel the same.

Give a man a can of sardines and you feed him for a day. Give a man a can of sardines every day and feed him for a lifetime.

Give a man a tin of beans he'll probably shoot you afterwards.

To those of you that run about shooting people on sight, not even bothering to check for loot, etc... I do not understand your logic. What good do you think you are doing?

Have you ever heard of 'Wheaton's Law' "Don't be a Dick" ??

In DayZ world this is extremely true. By being a dick you are essentially robbing people of the experience of DayZ, the chance to learn something because you've already killed them! To do this is actually callous and cruel. What do you think that person could do if you didn't waste him for no reason?? He would survive, and probably have some fun while he's at it. What will happen when it's time to shoot and you're around to help them? Both of you survive.

By also killing one person, but not all, you essentially decide to save one while killing another... This is insane. And for every one person kill, there will be one hundred respawned and turn into bandits. Your efforts are futile. Unless your plan is to just turn this game in to bandits banditing bandits.

All you do is be a dick. The man you harm will try to put a bullet in your teeth. The one you heal will become a valuable asset to any team, provided he's not a dick as well. The one you feed will live more, and when you need supplies he would gladly give them up because of kindness.

So why?

You already know the answer, yet you act like you can't accept this act of valor.

Yeah well, since people in real life wouldn't shoot the shit out of every one they see why can't I try to help everyone I see in a game? I do not understand your logic. What good do you think you are doing?

Exactly right. Totally insane.

Unless, of course, it's a pixellated fantasyland where nothing really matters. But that would be completely ridiculous.

So if I shoot that guy, I'll get a lot of sardines!

Some people find more enjoyment in griefing, or being selfish. I enjoy being helpful, and apparently also enjoy being naive.

Maybe their strategy is to make them completely dependent and then they won't pose a real threat.

Last night I encountered two crippled noobs in Balota after a fresh respawn. I had only the bandage and painkillers to my name. I looked around for a morphine or a gun. Found an AK in the camp south of the airfield. :(

Felt like Two Face, had I found a morphine, they would have lived.
