The real point of being an alpha tester is get frustrated constantly and test your level of patience.

Because there's a difference between whining that "this 'game' sucks" and saying "I've encountered a bug where ____ happens, i hope it is fixed soon". The latter certainly wouldn't get told to stfu.

It's really about fun. When player's are having fun, they're usually finding and using problems with the game. In turn, people whine and it gets noticed and fixed eventually. Everybody wins.

If you think things get fixed by posting endless cry threads in general forums you're kidding yourselves.

Statistics and bug reports are used. As always, the players that post on the forums are a small minority compared to people actually playing the game.

Yeah, your right. Rocket, close down DayZ until it hits final release, so all the thousands of players who are having fun, can't.

Constructive criticism in 2012 :)

Because those threads are not being posted in the bug reporting board like they should.

How long does it usually take for the mods to review your post there, I posted a rather severe issue 5 days ago and it still has to be unlocked.

Who said anything about bugs? He said “issue,” not “bug.”

In any case, this is an alpha, not a beta. Rocket isn't supposed to spend the majority of time fixing things, he's supposed to be adding features.

Alpha is for Adding features.

Beta is for Bug fixing.

It's mostly because the problems and issues are being posted in General Discussion where there are plenty of people just waiting to bash on you. They should all be correctly be submitted to the Bug Reports section or here https://dev-heaven.net/projects/dayz

Couple of things realy:

- if you want to be a real alpha tester you would not realy play this game you would try and find bugs by repeating the same thing to actually see if they are truely a bug... you wouldn't even post in this part (general) of the forum, you would read and search reported bugs and try and see if you run into them aswell, and ofcourse to spend your time finding new bugs instead of spending time on already known issues.

- as an alpha tester you have the opportunity to test the features of the game, based upon the general concept of the game and the playerbase reactions you could spend time to device optional features for this game. You would spend most your time in the suggestion forum, you would try and read up on suggestions (or use search) so you don't post the same suggestion over and over. You would contribute in discussions on these features always trying to keep the game in mind, you would realize that no idea ever truely sucks, it may just realy not fit a particular situation or game because of some reasons...

- as an alpha tester you may just be here to give your honest feedback, you play every session to get a general honest opinion on what you like or do not like (be it a feature a bug or w/e). Feedback is always subjective and you are wise to realize this, as subjective viewpoints are there to be disagreed with or mocked, or w/e. But this discussion realy isn't important, feedback is formulated in a 'this is what i did, this is how it made me feel, because of...' ... the moment you start to formulate 'and this could be done about it' you are already threading in the suggestion realms. All feedback should do is give that explained subjective viewpoint that the gamedev's can no longer see. based upon this feedback they can decide though whether the features you spoke of are conveyed correctly as intended, or not, or whether certain features give added experiences (be it positive or negative). This kind of feedback doesn't realy need a response either, and while the general forum is filled with discussions on these kinds of feedback topics, as a feedback giver you should care less what other people think of your feedback. It's how you experienced your playsessions and you can't realy change an experience based upon a different point of view. Even understanding that it's an alpha doesn't change how you feel about that ... so just ignore the comments, write your feedback and move on to get more ...

- last, data entry unit, for this you just play the game, the systems behind the game collect data based upon your behavior, which in turn gives the Dev's a somewhat objective view of the whole of the playerbase's behavior. You don't realy have to do anything but play...

That's beta, bro. Alpha is for testing features and concepts, not finding bugs. The exception is truly game breaking bugs like: “I'm unable to play because of error X”.

While i agree to this in regards to what the dev's do with the information, there is no harm is reporting and finding bugs in alpha, it's upto the dev's to decide whether a certain bug breaks the game to such an extend that they should devote resources to fixing it, or whether a bug with a certain feature breaks that feature to an extend it can't be tested properly ... a tester can always try and find bugs and report them, no matter which state the game is in, and doing so in alpha means that there is already a wellknown list of bugs to tackle once the game goes into beta, one could almost say that true beta doesn't start untill these bugs are finished...

@Grandpa, I'm sorry but i would think that a person of your age would come to appreciate a little more depth into any message conveyed, i am far from being a grandpa but even i get rather concerned by all the meaningless multi-interpretal one-liners the twitter age brought along. But just incase your mind has gone down the drain by altzheimer so much already... Just read the first sentence of a paragraph, any half decent writer always puts the most important part of their message there. If you can't find the good stuff in the first sentence, read the last sentence... if 'the point' doesn't seem to be in neither of those, then stop reading entirely, it's very likely the rest of that paragraph is crap too ;)

It's a forum, where you are supposed to READ.

Why are you even here? To add to the already massively overgrown shitpile?

You're doing a great job of it...

I never said that reporting bugs was a bad thing, but the primary purpose of an alpha tester is to give feedback about the features.

Of course, an open alpha will require more bugfixing, but it's still all about the features IMO.
