Hacked weapons and players : A public service

I've seen this put p in a lot of places and I want to honestly believe it's because players are misinformed, so let me put this information out so everyone knows.

YOU CAN NOT BE BANNED FOR FINDING / PICKING UP / USING A HACKED WEAPON IN THIS GAME. SERVER ADMINS, YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED TO BAN SIMPLY BECAUSE A PLAYER WAS USING A HACKED WEAPON.

In order to ban a player on your server you must have the coding that proves that the player hacked the weapon into the game. This is the ONLY way you can ban a player from your server, ever.* You can not ban a player because he hacked on another server unless there is proof that they were hacking in weapons on THAT server. Please stop banning these people who find hacked weapons and decide to run around with them. While it is not fair to the community to use a hacked weapon, it's not a crime simply to pick it up and run around with it.

Rocket has stated this very fact but people just refuse to listen to him for some stupid reason. Let's try to keep this bumped, shall we?

*Tinfoil hat people, this is in regards to weapons. Of course you can be banned for other hacks, let's not be naive, shall we?

anyone doing anything even remotely close to hack gets you a ban.

if you run around with a hacked weapon you will be banned end of.

fed up with the constant hacking from so many people that cant even play this mod that they have to hack.

If you run around with a hacked gun YOUR just as bad and you will get a big fat ban. All your doing is promoting hacking.

Sure it is a crime, cause you have a big big advantage over the normal players, who don t use this weapons or find and destroy it (drop it into a zombie and hide)

Hello there

This has been covered upteen times before.

What is needed is a big dollop of common sense.

Yes, there are "rules" but I doubt that the devs would stop you banning someone who was creating havok on ones server. (crashing it for eg)

But one has to think before one acts.

If you can ban people for banditry on your PvE server then so can other admins ban for hacked weapons.

How does one determine what a hacked weapon is? Not everyone who plays this mod knows the ins and outs of what you can find, what you can't find, etc. Some people prefer to not read every single article on the Wiki. Some people prefer to find out things by playing the game for what it is, and not reading third party sources.

You wouldn't put someone in jail for spending a counterfeit bank note that they got as change from buying something from a shop, would you? So why should you ban someone for picking up a weapon from the floor that they didn't hack into the game? The simple fact is that you just can't force people to read a manual about the game before they start playing it. And banning people for something that other people have caused is just down-right wrong.

The solution is to tell the player that the weapon they're using was hacked into the game by someone else, and then either have them voluntarily get rid of it or forcibly remove it from their person. Then you can ban them if they chose not to listen to you. If you cannot however, communicate with them because of you not knowing what their character name is or who they are, then you can't ban them for it.

No, you won't be banned players for running around with hacked weapons, read the rules of hosting a server. If you ban players for reasons other then what Rocket has stated then you will be Blacklisted from the Hive and removed. Be smart, follow the agreement you took when you wanted to host a server or get Blacklisted. Lumping players who pick up hacked weapons into a category of hackers just because they picked something up they didn't know was hacked is against the rules and will get your server taken down / black listed.

That's incorrect. I manage the banking for where I work, and every so often there's a counterfeit bank note in with the notes that are to be banked. If a note is found to be fake, then it's confiscated. If you try to spend a fake note somewhere and they detect that it's fake, it's confiscated also.
