james222 49 Posted August 4, 2012 (edited) Is there any demand? I'm seriously contemplating this in light of the recent hacking attacks and BIS/BE showing no effort to atleast make their engine more secure, and BIS' official response to hackers is "password your servers" Edited August 4, 2012 by Chernarus
Cheekything 10 Posted August 4, 2012 Because passwords are unhackable? They are just trying to show how cool they are, in reality most of them shouldn't even be playing the game but you know as such is life.Just ignore hackers log off reset the server and carry on. OrLoK 16187 Posted August 4, 2012 HelloIf I have to spend a couple of minutes joining a forum of a unit to get the pass to a secure server, I don't find it an issue.I'd rather jump through one hoop and have a hack free experience than be plagued by SC's.Also *IF* BE/Bis are working on security fixes, it's going to take time to have a robust system in place. I doubt they are ignoring it completely.rgdsLoK
Sanadorn 6 Posted August 4, 2012 Most of the time my group only plays when I'm either on the server's TS3 or playing myself so I can halt the server when a hacker pops on.Tonight for example we had a guy jump on in a zombie skin with an AK shooting at people, we killed him kind of by accident (he popped himself into the supermarket we were in and was noticed). He came back showing up on thermals for a bit then went invisible shooting green, red and yellow smoke grenades and a M107 at us as we were fixing up a bus. Funny stuff but... "save the bus, server shutdown" and wait the 4 seconds required for script kiddie #191238 to lose interest and latch onto the next shiny server. We've done this only in cases where it's obvious. In this instance the guy was rapid firing smoke... about 20 or so rounds of it, looked kinda cool.. he did kill one of our group before it became obvious it was a hacker. I'm loathe to restart or halt in any circumstance but that crap, Thunderdome, A-10s, etc etc... yeah server halt time and we go play a round of a mech game or a tank game or whatever then restart and the server fills back to 30+ within seconds and we go on enjoying the game. We've had vehicles and tents wiped out a number of times through hacker activity when none of us are on so that's probably the only instance where I'd prefer a password or an effective anti-cheating mechanism. Zoop 343 Posted August 4, 2012 We've had a discussion thread on this the past week.http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/52515-attention-rocket-please-review-the-dayz-server-host-rules/Devs don't seem to give a shit, despite the thread getting enormous support from other admins and even numerous regular players.Basically, passwording a server is the easiest way of keeping hackers out, because you've got full control over who can and cannot access your server. Then you've got some assholes who say the only reason people would want to password a server is because they want to farm loot safely.
