I just want to jump in here and say I was skeptical of their private hive.

Myself and a friend wanted to each grab a DayZ server on Friday. We went with the DayZ Package Server thinking we would be on the normal DayZ hive. After contacting ViLayers support to figured out how long before we got an instance ID we realized we were put on their Private hive. Initially I wasn't super happy about it.

After spending a bunch of time in their Teamspeak and playing on my server, I'm sold on their hive. The hive already has a good population, my server was populated with between 25-40 people all weekend. Tents and vehicles save, we can change the amount of vehicles, tent duping is fixed, we can change the time, and they're actively working on more features.

THE biggest advantage is no red tape when kicking/banning people. If you suspect someone of cheating, take care of them. Simple as that.

In my opinion, ViLayer is top notch. It's been a pleasure dealing with their support. If you go in their Teamspeak you get to talk with the guys that are actively building this hive. They're taking all feature suggestions into consideration.

Bottom line is they have fixed the issues that the DayZ dev team has not. Honestly, the dev teams should hand off the mod to people like the ViLayer folks and put all their attention in the stand alone.

If you have any hesitation about going with them, put it aside. They're top quality and they're hive is great and only getting better. Plus there is a 25% off coupon so you get a 40 slot server for $38.

i would love to get some more info about the private hive.

my search failed to give me anything meaty.

What info are you looking for? I'm not an expert but I spent a lot of time in their TS this weekend so I know a pretty decent amount.

its hard to say anything specific. i just like to get as much info as possible to determine if this could be something for us.

everything from whitelisting to how future updates will be handled. i am hungry for it all

Whitelisting: There's no issue with Whitelisting if you sign up for the private hive. You're server is up pretty quick. I believe they say up to 24 hours to provision but mine was up within 45 minutes. You don't need to wait for an instance ID from the DayZ dev team so you're instantly part of their hive once your provisioned.

Updates: They deal with all updates. They're pushed out to your control panel. It's pretty much as easy as click "Update". They push out the updates for their code along with updates for the mod itself.

Support: Their support has been pretty good so far. They have a Teamspeak server that you can join for help. HOWEVER, that should be considered a bonus because they're not always in there. If they're in TS they'll help you out. Ticket response time has been pretty good. I don't believe I've waited for than 12 hours for a response, usually a lot less.

Performance: My loading times are really quick. I've heard the same from everyone else I play with, 15+ people.

Features: You have the ability to easily change configuration settings, the name of the server and the time of day. If you don't like playing at night, change the time and restart. They have also fixed the Tent/Vehicle saving issues. They have also fixed tent dupping. They have also taken extra steps to help combat hacking. They're actively working on adding more features and bug fixes. They're plans are to have a lot more to offer than any other host or hive.

Price: It ends up being $38/month with the coupon code of 25%OFFGS. So that puts it up there with some of the cheapest. IMO it's a steal compared to most hosts.

Hive Size: Their Lingor hive is really big. There's tons of servers that are fully populated. The Chernarus hive is not as big but there's still a pretty good population. I got my server on Saturday and had all 40 slots filled that night. You also need to keep in mind the hive is pretty new so it will keep getting bigger. I heard they host 40%+ of all DayZ servers so they have potentially have access to a lot of people to bring into the Hive.

Admins: IMO this is the best part. You're no longer bound to the DayZ red tape to ban hackers. You have the ability to kick/ban whoever you want without answer to the Dev Team. This gives you far more control to deal with hackers.

I've only had them since Saturday but I've been really happy with the experience. I'd recommend them to everyone at this point. In all honestly, I think the DayZ dev team should focus on the stand alone and leave the mod up to people like ViLayer.

Note: If you decide to go with them, you need to purchase the "ARMA 2: DayZ Package server" . This this is the one that gets you onto their hive.

Barry, Thanks for the post. You're the man! I'm sorry people are upset with things, but I promise, Casey, Lee, brad and Nigel worked super hard while I was away. I'm in a brand new house and I'm waiting For Comcast to hookup my internet. I can then help with sales.

I was actually blow away by how much they're working. I was in their Teamspeak at 3am EST Friday night and Lee was in there helping people. I got back in there at 10am the next day and he was still in there helping people on 3 hours of sleep.

I can promise to everyone, these guys are working HARD to fix DayZ and bring YOU the best possible experience.

Maybe they're working hard but they cant seem to resolve basic issues such as setting the max-ping higher. As I said, abysmal.

You might add to that the following basic issues which are not being resolved:

- 24/7 availability of the ACP (the server control panel)

- scheduled restarts actually being completed. It just starts skipping scheduled restarts, no matter how many times you set them up

- random shut down of your server. It will just stop your server, no reason given and when asking for support about the issue they just imply you did it yourself

Having the exact same sort of issues. When I raised these in a ticket I was told and this is an actual quote from the ticket:

Hi Davey,

I can see the problem and will attempt to fix this for you, however you have 35 players on the server currently, if you can login, and stop the server then reply to this ticket for me, i can alter the config for you, please also let me know what maxping and rcon password should be set to for your server.

Best Regards,

Nigel Smart (Support Technician)

Vilayer LTD | www.vilayer.com How would you rate this reply? Poor Excellent

OK if its not your problem I'll go to another host that a friend uses who is able to succesfully adjust his max ping. Thanks anyway.

Davey,

This is not our problem, it is how the beserver.cfg is generated. Please see this knowledgebase article, http://www.vilayer.c...le&catid=1&id=5

Notice how I threaten to leave then all of a sudden it IS fixable by vilayer? This company is a shambles and should be avoided at all costs.

Decided to give their private HIVE a try as I was tired of all the issues from the official HIVE.

Everything's set but I have one issue, I am always stuck at Loading and no one can get to their character screen, always stuck at loading.

Any ideas?

After opening a ticket and having the server re-installed by Casey, we are still stuck at Loading.

Mine's on Chernarus (Private hive too) and also stuck on Loading.

Opened a ticket and they even re-installed the whole server, but still stuck on loading and seems no one can answer my ticket right now, so far I have wasted half a day trying to get it up and running.

Lee is helping me on Team Speak right now, it appears it's the same issue I had when I first rented the server, due to my username having a space.

Purchased a Lingor Island server from Vilayer yesterday. So far so good. No complaints. Loads fast and pings smooth.

If/When I see Aussie server hosting available, I might give private Hives a shot. Its either Vilayer or HFB, but I'd prefer Vil tbh...lol

Anyways, hope everythings working out well for everyone.

And also, as someone who has run websites in the past, things can easily go wrong due to simple little things. If you're experiencing problems with anything on the internet, be it websites or (in this case) game servers, have patience. It will get fixed, it just takes time. Better to do it right the first time, then have to keep going back to fix it every day.

John, Lee, keep up the good work guys.

They no longer do Aussie servers, which is a shame. But we're going to test out a Seattle private server. Must say, the CS team I've been chatting to has been pretty cool. So its a good start.

If you're in the US or EU, give em a go. I'll reserve saying anything about how good it is for Aussie till after we test and kill our server...what?...Oh, come on, we all know its going to happen...
