Question about the standalone DayZ

Recommended Posts

I didn't find the answer to this question elsewhere so I'll cut straight to the point: Will the standalone version of DayZ use an already existing engine or will the entire game be coded from scratch? My google-fu skills seem to be lacking.

To far to know, nothing was said about it to much - it might be Rocket's ultimate goal, but its not his goal for now and at least a good few months to come since hes still trying to sort this out.

It sounds like it will be using the same engine that arma2 and arma3 are based on. Have a watch of the machinima live stream he did the other day. This is why it's expected to have a standalone release so soon, most of it can simply be ported over. Main difference is he will then be able to make changes to the engine as it will be separate to arma.

Yes, your majesty. Yes, I do feel like a failed spambot sometimes. Oh, I see what you mean. ;)

Okay smasht_AU, that's what I thought. Hope this means he'll be able to fix most of the bugs and annoyances that is plaguing the current version of the engine. Thanks!

Rocket has a hard on for the ArmA engine(1) so it'd continue to run on that but without the forced framework.
