TeamSpeak 3.

Edit; Skype is also usable, but if the host for the call starts lagging, the call goes all robot-y.

Team Speak isn't free. It takes a subscription. Not sure about vent. Team Speak is quality, though.

(Somone needs to rent the server. Not technically a "subscription" I suppose.)

For teamspeak, ventrillo and mumble you need a server, which generally costs some money.

The client is free for all of them.

I like teamspeak and mumble.

Apparently Skype uses much less bandwidth if that helps.

Skype is free, but you get what you pay for. Works well enough for everyone I play with though.

sounds maybe silly but my brother and I use the windows live messenger audio-chat function, works just fine. for more people i suggest to use teamspeak and if you really have to pay for it i guess you have enough people using it to split the bill nicely..

i've used all the major players.

ventrilo

teamspeak

mumble

skype

ALL clients are FREE.

for voip beginners teamspeak is probably easiest to use, i prefer ventrilo, mumble is the open source alternative, and skype isn't really popular for team gaming.

you can host a free Ventrilo server that holds up to 9 people, and it can be downloaded from their website. If you need more room, you need to rent a server or pay for a license.
