BannedOpinion 14 Posted May 25, 2012 No.If you value something someone has, offer them a trade. If you have something they value with little value to you, you're not losing out by trading that. Mutual trading. It's already being implemented by players, there's no need for a system or add-on for it. I've traded plenty of times, it's good!Sometimes, it has been fairly communist too. In which we redistribute everything accordingly, and help each other out that way.
Horr1d 7 Posted May 25, 2012 Many excellent points here guys and I've rep'd you for it but the point I want to make is I want to make gold the point of the game for me. NOT survival, in my closed society, gold buys my survival as my hunters collect all we need for survival and trade, we pay them in coin. Foolish? Well kinda, there are zombies around here but I want to see if a real currency is possible to be role played and doing it with bean tins just didnt sound as good and a "hard sell" when i try to sell it to friends to try out. Even if gold coins ends up in the game, it wont change the way you play it but I think it will start to make the world more rich with lore and role play opportunities, which will drive this game to be more fun. BannedOpinion 14 Posted May 25, 2012 I personally don't want a currency system enforced upon me, I want to decide what is an acceptable trade. Currency is of little value in a post-apocalyptic world. What's more important, a monetary system; or finding some food or water?I'd rather not have to get currency to go buy something, I rather straight up swap primitive style. In the post-apocalyptic world, people will be looking to trade the least valuable item they have for something they value more. It's a very libertarian idea that in mutual aid, no one is losing out. I can see people losing out with currency, and I can't see it being implemented effectively.
Publik 404 Posted May 25, 2012 No, when was the last time you got close enough to someone else to be able to have any sort of interaction?
Defhrone 2 Posted May 25, 2012 Bottlecaps!Nah, the age old item trade is very likely to naturally reemmerse if an actual appocalypse would happen.

We cant force you to pay us gold in exchange for our supplies unless we kill you and take it, which we might do if you disobey our property rights.I ask for a money pouch drop that I can store gold coin in. I myself want to implement a closed society that occupies one of the towns in game and we use the in game item, gold coin as our currency. I don't care if you don't accept items in exchange for your coins, don't come to our town. No one implements any restrictions on you by having gold coin and a coin pouch added to the game! Strategos (DayZ) 190 Posted May 25, 2012 Just pick tin cans as your unit of currency, job done.
BannedOpinion 14 Posted May 26, 2012 So the entire community must have another addon so a small group of the community can use a monetary system. Next you'll be demanding banks, and then a full electable legislature, judiciary and executive. (i kid with that bit)Why...why can't you make use of useless crap in the game already, like tin cans? You're demanding an additional addon just for yourself, and a select few others, unless of course, you can prove there's popular demand for this 'closed society'. Perhaps rather than suggesting it. You use the already available developer tools and make it yourself and submit it with a request. This would save developers a bit of time. The primary issue is, there's no demand for such a coin. You already have a viable alternative - tin cans; at your disposal. They'll function no differently, as they have no real purpose in the game and neither would a coin until of course, you come across this 'closed society'. Horr1d 7 Posted May 27, 2012 All I suggested was the addition of a gold coin item and perhaps a money pouch that takes up an inventory slot. Why do so many people put up these straw man arguments and then knock them down on this forum?I'm just trying to come up with ideas that could make this a more rich, role-playing and lore driven experience. Even if you put gold coin and paper money in the game, I'm not asking for any special "addon" and never did. You could perhaps use paper money to extend the life of the fires you build. Gold coin would be widely perceived as useless, but you never know what can happen with a player driven content sandbox do you? Guess we will never find out, because there are too many sophists and people who scream "Heretic!" when something they personally are not interested in is suggested as an idea.
