GexAlmighty 54 Posted August 2, 2012 (edited) Yeah, you heard me right you dirty smelly sweaty bear running around in your stuffy ghilli suit. A smellometer.Basically, as an addition to sound and eye icons, you also have an icon for how SMELLY your fat ass is. After an amount of time your body starts to sweat and get horrible (this would happen faster with a ghilli suit for realism and balance) and this would cause your smell meter (a nose icon) to gain bars depending on how smelly you are. Zombies will aggro from further away if you stink, the more you smell, the further you pull. you can clean yourself by washing in lakes, so makes for an easy detour you can make while filling your canteen up.This is almost trolling, but i think it would be fun.AS A SIDE NOTE: when you are around people for an extended amount of time (while not in combat) and you smell, someone near you should occasionally make comments about it telling each other that they stink. I know if i was playing with my friends and i heard that i would laugh my ASS offObviously this would all have to wait until standalone. Bozo 18 Posted August 2, 2012 I kind of like it, but needs somewhat of rework.
lugaru 103 Posted August 2, 2012 Eating beans will cause a status where over the course of a few minutes your smell will wildly fluctuate. When your aroma is critical, other players can detect you because you give off the "dead body" fly swarming sound.I'm joking too but... hm... you never know. hulkingunicorn 20 Posted August 3, 2012 Obviously this would all have to wait until standalone.I don't see anything in your suggestion that couldn't be done in ArmA 2, was that the trolling part?

Sure, they might need a few development iterations to iron out bugs, but not any worse than for other features. In any event, it can't get more complex than the zombie sight/hearing raycasting. CerebralZombie (DayZ) 151 Posted August 3, 2012 They would have to add wind direction, which would also affect sounds.
hulkingunicorn 20 Posted August 3, 2012 They would have to add wind direction, which would also affect sounds.Checking and changing speed and direction of the wind is already in the game, though I'm unaware of whether rocket controls the wind directly or sticks to letting the weather influence it. I'm also not sure if he uses it for hearing calculations or not, but it's available for his use if he wants to.They would have to add a simple way for the player to determine this though. As an example, the ACE mod has both a tool for accurately measuring the wind (Kestrel something) and a hotkey-triggered arrow indicating the direction (and a few different colors representing the speed). moofactory 62 Posted August 3, 2012 If anythingIf you max out your stinkyness...you basically become zed undetectable!I mean think about it... You mum always said... phwaaaarr.... you smell like something crawled up someones ass and died!OK... I know theyre not dead... but have a think about why they dont attack eachother.Id say like the walking dead.... scent. if you smell like them... then they would not notice you.But on the downside... Cows charge within 200m.If your upwind.. watch out!

Rigor Mortis (DayZ) 141 Posted August 15, 2012 I've gotta post my smell-bar idea here too... I just love it so much.I definitely think smelling bad should agro zoms... I mean, a quote directly from the dayzmod.com site reads "These once human creatures will act and behave as if they have a heighten[ed] sense of hearing and smell but less sight."I also think that a bar of icons at the bottom of the screen showing what you can smell currently would be awesome. As a few examples:Running through the woods you have a strong 'pine' icon and suddenly get a weak 'rotting meat' icon... looks like zombies or even a dead player are nearby. As it gets stronger you know you're getting closer to the source. You could also run through a cloud of BO (yeah, funny, but plausible) and know that someone is out here with you. What about smelling gasoline near Jerry cans?I don't think you need to complicate this with wind direction or anything... just have a range for each smell (i.e. a person leaves a trail of BO 50m behind them) and zombies produce a rotting meat smell in a radius (perhaps 100m or 200m? Dead things STINK!).Anyways, just thought I'd share.
