I asked myself the same question. For those who read this far before the link is added to the OP: clicky

    Interview with Matthew Lightfoot

Considering how Rocket seems to like real world knowledge helping out in the 'game', buying some medical books could keep you ahead of the pack ;) Maybe not. He's asked about bases at 4:22.

Lag would make it annoying whatever way they handle it (in ArmA 2, vehicles are local to the driver; try hitting a fast moving, teleporting vehicle with an RPG). Next patch will have icons like these - great improvement, right? source

From what I read, I got the impression they delayed banning for new hacks only, but I don't know how correct that is. If a hack grows rampant it needs putting down, though. I thought of a flock of crows, where they send out a few scouts to check if the area is safe. If you want to eradicate the crows around, you'd do better to let the main flock land before you strike, so you don't just get the early adopters. If they detect and ban a new hack within a day, they'll have fewer cheaters to ban than if they allowed some days for the hack to spread (as potential users of a hack could be warned by the dead scouts). I don't have any experience with how fast VAC is, but several weeks is too slow for my tastes. I think it ought to be linked to the adoption rate of the hack in some fashion. What makes you think that? I haven't played APB, by the way, so please go into more detail. This would be interesting, it also matches what rocket has said about player skill and knowledge helping in the game/sim. I'd like to see , but I have the feeling it would destroy the budget to add new complex mechanics like these. They've talked about allowing players to code/create their own security systems for underground bases though, so maybe there's hope.

Speedhacks sound unlikely with the chosen architecture. Isn't wallhack and ESP more or less the same thing? Seeing through obstacles and using aimbots sounds like prime examples of hacks with the new architecture, at least. Someone else talked about the delayed bans of VAC in this thread; by delaying the bans of new hacks, they can ban more game keys (they won't be warned not to use already detected hacks). We'll see BS deaths in the stand alone, but not like in the mod (in some ways a bad thing, seeing fireworks and exploding cows before being dropped from ten kilometers above the ground is more entertaining than being aimbot sniped through bushes a mile away).

Steam was chosen because they could ease development of the game, not because it's a beacon of light for consumer rights. While I've not yet been deterred from buying games using Steam, I don't like to be faced with the choice of accepting whatever new EULA/SSA they roll out or forfeit my entire Steam library. Perhaps parts of those agreements would be ripped to shreds in court, perhaps not. I don't see a reason to beat down those who object against having the terms of an agreement constantly changed by the other party with no real recourse. People worrying about other people's opinions or crusades on the internet need to do less yoga.

How about Diablo 3 and Starcraft 2? Primal Carnage? Call of Duty: Black Ops 2? With the DayZ mod the zombies exist locally on the client that spawns them (if you're chased by zombies and you're the only player nearby, you can disconnect and rejoin to yet again see 'safe' surroundings) and your computer coordinates them. I'd expect the zombies to put a lot less strain on your CPU in the standalone (with the architecture changes outlined in the blog post, the server will be controlling them).

With ArmA 2 the clients are mini servers that can create weapons and vehicles, teleport around the map, mark locations of any object on a map, or compile code to be executed on other clients and/or the server. In DayZ Mod this is locked down, but modifying the client can unlock much/most of this functionality (at risk of getting caught by battleye). With the architecture described in the blog post, the client would inform the server what it wants to do, but the server makes the decisions. The client won't know everything going on on the map, like it is now, but a resourceful hacker could modify the client to present what the client knows, but normally wouldn't tell you (like making players show through objects); this would risk getting banned though.

It will probably be related to settings that give advantages, while detail levels and filters that don't give you an edge/handicap will be set clientside. You could create a junction in your steam folder, so the DayZ folder points to a SSD drive location. In my case, Steam is installed on my SSD (my system disk), while I have a bunch of junctions to a slower disk for some games. Rocket has mentioned that overground modifications will create too much clutter, but he likes the idea of instanced underground bases. Search his posts for details. Your font colour really isn't easy on the eyes.

The current mod allows custom face textures, courtesy of ArmA 2. Search for ArmA 2 custom face. Perhaps we'll see similar functionality in the standalone.

It seems he's been talking about Steam for a while, at least in terms of it as an alternative (I didn't check reddit though). What's the big problem with Steam, by the way? Do they have too much of the market slice for your liking, is it the regional pricing scheme, or do you think their service is of a poor quality? In case of the pricing, we could potentially have a single currency shop and redeemable keys, at least.

Do you have any examples or scenarios regarding this? Still possible for someone to adjust colours etc in video card settings or tuning their monitor. This makes hiding in shadows or grass more viable though.

    Build 1.7.3 Rolling Update

I'd settle for a hot air balloon, an airship, or a little propeller plane, but I imagine the airship wouldn't last long ;) As for why in this mod, Chernarus is a mostly contigous landmass, with some tiny islands. More in general, think of the purpose of these jets: air superiority, tank killing, bombing infrastructure, air strikes... not that suited to something after the end of civilization. As was mentioned above, balancing them would be an issue as well. I like the idea of flying to another island of some size (with a meaningfully sized ocean), that sounds like fun. I suppose they could recycle the islands from Operation Flashpoint 1985 to speed things up a bit. Now that I think about it, I'd like a motorized paraglider or a gyrocopter (I believe there was a mod for that in ArmA 1, it made for some scenic flying).

    Build 1.7.3 Rolling Update

I wouldn't be opposed to seeing my stats upon logging in, but I wouldn't want the game to tell me I killed someone while I'm playing; I like not knowing whether I got my assailant or prey unless I see him drop dead or track down his body (I don't want to have death messages either). Apology accepted ;) Try to keep your rage under wraps; it tends to create more if it's expressed :) I thought that was what you meant by:

Perhaps in real life, but not in ArmA without modding :P
