Revised Respawn and Character Customization System

Recommended Posts

I wonder if this is still possible.

In the usual DayZ game, you spawn, you play, you kill, you die.

But what if you can have something that implements and make gameplay more appealing over time?

Character Customization

What if you can customize the skin of your character before you spawn, for when you want to play in a certain role in the beginning?

Maybe add a unlocking system into the mod so everyone starts at one level and must survive and do achievements to unlock stuff that are cosmetic to your character?

Different outfits and such would be interesting to use.

You can change this every time you respawn.

Possible Costumes:

Civilian (default)

Fire Fighter

Police

Doctor

Business

Farmer

Zombie

Military

STALKER

Perks

Because you will likely die and respawn again, why not have a simple system to make things more interesting?

Perks can be a customization that allows you to bring a certain set of gameplay into the game until you die, and you can unlock perks by doing certain things in the game.

Each perks should have a positive and a negative effect, and brings additional element to roleplaying.

Example:

Glutton - Gain twice as much blood from eating food, but you get thirsty and hungry 2x faster.

Lightweight - You move 10% faster, but carry 1 less secondary slots (7 secondary slots) and 1 less primary slots (11 primary slots).

Stealthy - Zombies notice you less likely, but you gain injuries much easier.

Brute - You have a higher blood capacity (16000), but your movement speed is 10% slower.

Treasure Hunter - You have a better luck to find items (increases % of rare loots around you when they spawn), but more likely to attract zombies (increases % for zombie chance in the area).

Night Eye - Better Night Vision, but sight is hindered towards bright light.

Rambo - You shoot guns more accurately overall, but you make 50% more noise (you go "GRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!" while shooting, and you also waste more ammo like that).

You'd only pick Rambo if you like baiting zombies as part of the team.

You may bring only 1 perk into the game.

I don't like the perks because this is supposed to be realistic but i like the cosmetics idea as long as it changes no stats just looks different. A.k.a bandit skins

I like the idea of character customization, and the idea of unlocking new things through achievements, but the perks should actually be perks. I`d go without a perk if those where my options.

I intend the idea of perks to be light and only affects things in a minor way, like the personality or trait of a character.

Perks are optional, like in all games, because they come with positive and negative effects.

Otherwise you can go the project zomboid stance and allow free reign on positive and negative traits.

Someothercunt "he shot me im dead"

Doctor "this outfit idea was sooo good"

Have my beans. im all for skins unlocks or more skins on the ground. i mean how does a hospital not have a naughty nurse outfit... you could make captives wear it.

Lets add a pedobear skin then, then a trollface skin then...

Then lets make DayZ a matter of trading 'unique' skins, make TF2 look like babies with their hat collection.

Yeah we have 'skin collection'!

Go to the main menu, click "player profile", click your profile, click edit, BAM customization.

If you want any further than that, look for camo that is already present in the game

Hey, this is a nice idea but do you really apply perks to yourself in real life? I am not trying to make a "realism" argument just that the idea of perks as described doesn't really fit with the game. I do support a modular character system.

The ideas you propose are pretty much impossible to implement in the current engine without a huge amount of work, therefore I will address them as if they are aimed at the standalone game.

"Brute - You have a higher blood capacity (16000), but your movement speed is 10% slower."

It would be more appropriate to solve these with more complex game mechanics. Eating a lot of food over a long period of time could increase your weight (fat or muscle) and thus your health, but also makes you run more slowly. Mechanics like this would have to be under the bonnet so to speak, and have no real indicator system (numbers/badges/runes/etc) apart from how your character acts and looks.

Another example is a medic, since backpack space is limited it's possible to define "classes" or "jobs" by items, and intentions you carry with them. I hope in the standalone version you can wear any number of clothes you find (A dress on a big hairy guy? http://i.telegraph.co.uk/multimedia/archive/01725/dead-risingtwo4_1725692c.jpg Yes, like dead rising, but more realistic..). 1. Find clothes that look like medic clothes. 2. Find medic items and use them as you please.

Even if someone found some kind of medic clothes, they might not have the intentions of being a medic and use them to lure people closer before axing them to death :D

While I think perks are a bit much (unless they grant an advantage and an equal disadvantage)

This all goes to describe your character's past, for roleplay, "what happened to your character before he/she ended up washed up on the

shores of this hell, what did he/she do for a living and how does it help him/her adapt?"

It makes sense.

The skins are a great idea, if we keep them serious.
